And people in the music industry are taking note. SoundwavesTV has referred to Corvus Lore as the Bay Area's buzz-worthy band in 2023. Internet show host Chris Akin recently published his interview with the band stating, "Why Corvus Lore is the NEXT Velvet Revolver!" Inspiring and eye-catching videos such as "Boxing Ballerina" have won "Best Music Video" category at the 2022 Poppy Jasper International Film Festival. And their momentum keeps building — having shared the stage with notable rock legends like Tesla, Richie Kotzen, and Dizzy Reed from Guns n Roses, and Eric Martin. They have also made TV appearances on the KBFX morning show. The Good The Bad And The Ugly Shawn Levy's Newe Book Cliint The Man And The Movies

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 17, 2025 9:46

CLINT is the first major biography of Eastwood in over twenty years. Two of the most prominent earlier biographies were both comprehensive in covering the work and the life, but approached Eastwood with wildly different perspectives. One was fawning and overly respectful, ignoring any of Eastwood's faults, while the other one came at Eastwood harshly and didn't reckon with Eastwood as an actor and director as much as it focused on his personal missteps and failings. These books were also, obviously, unable to cover the substantial and award-winning work that Eastwood has produced in the 21st century. In covering the life and work of Eastwood, Levy's CLINT takes the middle ground, "where Clint and his work could be described and evaluated from a position of neither acquiescence nor denigration. It was possible for a book to celebrate the man and his work and deeds while acknowledging the flaws-and worse-in him, his choices, and, yes, his films."In a career spanning more than six decades, Clint Eastwood has captured the rugged essence of American manhood and morality, both on and off the screen. We picture him most immediately as he has appeared to us on screen: squinting through cigarillo smoke in A Fistful of Dollars or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly imposing rough justice at the point of a .44 Magnum in Dirty Harry; sowing moral vengeance in The Outlaw Josey Wales or Pale Rider; abandoning farming for murder-for-hire in Unforgiven; grudgingly training a woman boxer in Million Dollar Baby; standing up for his neighbors despite his racism toward them in Gran Torino. But those are roles, however well-cast and convincing, and they are two-dimensional in comparison to the whole life. The reality of Clint Eastwood is far more rich, knotty, and absorbing-a saga of cunning, determination, and conquest, a great American story about a man ascending to the Hollywood pantheon while keeping a gimlet eye on its ways and habits and one foot firmly planted outside its door.Yet, the story of Clint Eastwood is far more than his cinematic characters. As a director, he has crafted masterful narratives, winning thirteen Oscars, including two for Best Picture. His films explore American cultural and political climates with depth and understanding, embodying the contradictions and triumphs of contemporary America. But beyond the screen, who is Clint Eastwood?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

2024 How Trump Retook The Whitehouse And Th Democrats Lost America From Tyler Pager

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 16, 2025 8:47

"The whole world was against me, and I won," said Donald Trump in an exclusive interview, ten days before his second inauguration. Nearly four years after Trump's first turbulent presidency concluded in a violent attempt to overturn the election, he made a political comeback on a scale that stunned the nation. How did the first U.S. president to become a convicted felon regain control of the White House? And at what cost? In 2024, award-winning reporters Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf bring us the definitive and explosive account of how Trump and his advisers overcame a dozen primary challengers, four indictments, two assassination attempts, and his own past mistakes to defeat the Democrats, and pave the way for a second term that would be far more emboldened and revenge-fueled than the first.Drawing on extraordinary access to the Trump, Biden, and Harris teams, 2024 takes readers beyond the speeches, rallies, and debates to reveal the innermost workings of the Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns. Beginning in August 2022 with the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago for classified documents, and Trump's subsequent decision to run once again for president, Dawsey, Pager, and Arnsdorf chart how Trump stifled the rise of Republican opponents, including Ron DeSantis, and how his campaign, led by Susie Wiles, landed on a winning strategy. They reveal in unrivaled detail how Joe Biden and his team brushed off concerns about his age, ignored polling numbers, and held off the next generation of eager Democratic hopefuls-even as Biden was dealing with his own special counsel investigation and the trial of his son Hunter. After his disastrous debate performance forced him to withdraw, Biden anointed Vice President Kamala Harris as the candidate and tasked her with running the shortest presidential campaign in modern U.S. history. With only 107 days to distinguish herself from the past four years, Harris lacked the time or space to outrun Biden's shadow-a challenge in and of itself, but one which Biden would make even more difficult. On November 5th, 2024, Trump was elected the nation's forty-seventh president, and would return to power vindicated, emboldened, unrestrained, and burning for revenge. Gripping, revelatory, and deeply reported, 2024 is the remarkable inside story of one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime, the results of which will test American democracy and shape the future of the free world.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

In this revealing memoir, a fan favorite America's Next Top Model contestant pulls back the curtain on the iconic but deeply flawed reality competition show, exposing the manipulation and chaos behind the scenes.Tyra Banks's America's Next Top Model was a cultural phenomenon with more than six million weekly viewers at its peak. Over its fifteen-year run, the show captured the glitz of the early aughts as well as its most toxic attitudes-from the glamorous but often questionable photo shoots to the cutting feedback from its highly respected if out-of-touch judges. But as its fans have grown up and as the next generation discovers ANTM, they've also begun to reckon with the enduring ways that the show has affected their body image and self-esteem.Sarah Hartshorne would have never guessed that her first foray into modeling would start with being blindfolded alongside three dozen other girls on a charter bus winding through Puerto Rico. In You Wanna Be On Top?, Cycle 9's only plus-size contestant takes us into the heart of the unforgiving auditions; the labyrinthian cruise ship the girls weren't allowed to enjoy; and, of course, the L.A. "model house" teeming with hidden cameras and elaborately constructed tensions. As the season unfolds and the producers' interview questions about her weight and her opinions of the other girls become increasingly pointed, Hartshorne uncovers the destabilizing methods employed to film "reality."Drawing on her experience as well as interviews with other contestants and production crew, Hartshorne answers the questions you always wanted to ask: Why didn't the house have a microwave or a dishwasher? Why did girls regularly faint during eliminations? Which judge was the meanest off camera? Why is it that the girls had their most meaningful conversations in closets? (Answer: It was the one place camera crews couldn't fit.)With tender honesty and sharp wit, Hartshorne dissects the iconic show with an unflinching gaze that refuses to smize.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Magnolia Network announced the premiere date for their new series Back to the Frontier, set to debut July 10, 2025 on Magnolia Network and Max. The series, executive produced by Chip and Joanna Gaines, follows three American families as they reimagine their lives as 1880s homesteaders, challenged to forgo the comforts of the present day for a more analog life on the frontier. "This series taps into something we've always believed-that stepping away from the noise of everyday life can bring you closer to what matters most," said Chip and Joanna Gaines. "It is proof that no matter where you find yourself, the most important part of home is the people you share it with." In the series, three families hailing from across the country join together in the wilderness surrounded by ten thousand acres of nature, without the modern conveniences of technology, running water, or electricity. The Lopers (Alabama), Hanna-Riggs (Texas), and Halls (Florida) must live on the frontier for eight weeks, reinforcing their own shelters, raising livestock, collecting food, and rationing their supplies. Through this immersive experience, the families will have to reflect on their relationships and navigate the challenges that come with an 1880s lifestyle. "This exciting new series invites viewers to step back in time and experience the challenges of the American frontier," said Magnolia Network President Allison Page. "By immersing three families in the realities of 1880s life, we provided them-and our viewers-an authentic glimpse into the resilience and grit required to survive. Making this series has been an unforgettable journey, and we trust audiences will find it both captivating and inspiring." Back to the Frontier will roll out with one installment weekly over the course of its eight-week series run. In the final episode, the audience will learn whether each of the families succeeded in the challenge of gathering enough resources for the homestead to make it through the winter and which families might not have made it on the frontier. "Going back to the frontier, it's going to be life-changing for all of us," one contestant says, while another adds, "We want to go backward so that we can go forward in the right direction." While the women and girls wipe away their makeup, kids place their video game systems and laptops in plastic bins, one parent says, "I want my kids to learn humility and hard work." The families then see their simple lodgings, and one woman expresses her shock at the bathroom situation. "We sit on that?" she asks. There's a lot of sweat - be it from farming, milking cows or other daily tasks - and even a few tears along the way, with some adjusting to the setting. "One out of three families fail when they're on the homestead, so we need to work together," one man says, leading to a montage of the three families helping each other accomplish tasks. Check out the trailer: Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrDuxOSG2XY Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

When a major Hollywood studio released Five Fingers of Death to thrill-seeking Times Square moviegoers on March 21, 1973, only a handful of Black and Asian American audience members knew the difference between an Iron Fist and an Eagle's Claw. That changed overnight as kung fu movies kicked off a craze that would earn millions at the box office, send TV ratings soaring, sell hundreds of thousands of video tapes, influence the birth of hip hop, reshape the style of action we see in movies today, and introduce America to some of the biggest non-white stars to ever hit motion picture screens. This lavishly illustrated book tells the bone-blasting, spine-shattering story of how these films of fury ― spawned in anti-colonial protests on the streets of Hong Kong ― came to America and raised hell for 15 years before greed, infomercials, and racist fearmongering shut them down. You'll meet Japanese judo coaches battling American wrestlers in backwoods MMA bouts at county fairs, black teenagers with razor sharp kung fu skills heading to Hong Kong to star in movies shot super fast so they can make it back to the States in time to start 10th grade, and Puerto Rican karate coaches making their way in this world with nothing but their own two fists. It's about an 11-year-old boy who not only created the first fan edit but somehow turned it into a worldwide moneymaker, CIA agents secretly funding a karate movie, the New York Times fabricating a fear campaign about black "karate gangs" out to kill white people, the history of black martial arts in America ("Why does judo or karate suddenly get so ominous because black men study it?," wondered Malcolm X), the death of Bruce Lee and the onslaught of imitators that followed, and how a fight that started in Japanese internment camps during World War II ended in a ninja movie some 40 years later. It's a battle for recognition and respect that started a long, long time ago and continues today in movies like The Matrix, Kill Bill, and Black Panther and here, for the first time, is the full uncensored story.2025's revised and expanded hardcover edition features new material on superstars like Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, and Donnie Yen, plus spotlights on unsung performers, movie poster artists, low-rent film distributors, 1980s video companies, and more!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

And if Carter had seen his brother in time and avoided the crash, he might not have two broken legs right now. Oops. Now Carter is stuck at home for weeks, with both his legs in casts. Bored, he starts checking out the live feeds from police cams around his town. Before he knows it, he's obsessed—watching his classmates when they don't know he's looking and discovering some other very strange things going on that no one else is noticing. But what happens when Carter is found out... and the people he's watching know where he lives? SNOOP tackles finding a balance between screen-free time and being connected to the outside world. When screen-addicted Carter is forced to relate to the outside world only through screens he discovers that there's something missing. And in the late 1990s, pro-wrestling was the hottest thing in American pop culture, with companies making millions in action figures, video games, and simple black t-shirts emblazoned with three little letters: NWO.The NWO, or New World Order, became a business like no other, and was responsible for the explosive ratings and rabid fanbase. It started with an ingenious storyline starring Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and the titular Hollywood Hogan-Hulk Hogan gone bad. Together, they formed a new era of characters to root for: The Bad Guys.Never before had audiences cheered for the villains, rooting for them over the heroes. The NWO broke down wrestling's fourth wall in a clever new way, blurring the lines between fiction and reality. And suddenly, watching professional wrestling not only became socially acceptable, but a necessity if you wanted to stay up to date with pop culture. Their impact was infectious and long-lasting. It's Taken 17 Seaons To Get A Book It's Almost Sunny In Philadelphia From Author Kimberly Potts

In the bestselling traditions of Seinfeldia and Top of the Rock comes a fascinating deep dive into the longest-running live-action sitcom in television history, from its humble beginnings to its evolution as a critically acclaimed cult classic comedy.Charlie, Dennis, Mac, Sweet Dee, and Frank are deplorable characters. They will never mature, become more self-aware, or less self-involved. That is what the creators of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are committed to-and that's why the show's millions of devoted fans have stuck with the cult comedy hit for over sixteen seasons and counting.Created in 2005 by stars Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day, unemployed actors with a pair of Law & Order guest appearances as the highlights of their collective resume, the frustrated trio drafted a homemade TV pilot. A few months and $200 later (the cost of videotapes, pizza for their friends who volunteered as extras, and a broomstick to tape their boom mic to), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was ready for its network debut. All major parties either passed or were interested but wanted creative control. And then came FX looking to shake up cable TV. Willing to allow McElhenney, Howerton, and Day complete freedom to deconstruct the traditional sitcom, new president John Landgraf agreed to take a chance. No one had any idea how big of a success it would be. With FX's one creative note-the hiring of Danny DeVito-adding the final piece of the puzzle, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has enjoyed a steady climb to high ratings, critical acclaim, and a place in the cultural zeitgeist. Now, how the show and its creators have accomplished this is revealed with this in-depth, behind-the-scenes celebration. As thoughtful, provocative, and engaging as the show itself, this book also explores how the show has pushed the envelope and used absurdist comedy to explore major societal issues, including the #MeToo movement, LGBTQ+ rights, racism, and more. It also asks, what does the future hold for The Gang? It certainly won't include the characters' personal growth, but the show itself continues to move forward, adding to its dynamic history with each season.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
