Theme: Traditional Lenten SongsLead: LizMUSICWhat Wondrous Love Is ThisBased on the music Wondrous Love by William Walker: American Traditional What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul; what wondrous love is this, O my soul. What wondrous love is this, that caused the Lord of bliss bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, to bear the dreadful curse for my soul! When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, when I was sinking down, sinking down. When I was sinking down beneath God's righteous frown, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul. To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing; to God and to the Lamb I will sing. To God and to the Lamb who is the great I AM, while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing, while millions join the theme, I will sing. And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on; and when from death I'm free, I'll sing on. And when from death I'm free I'll sing and joyful be, and through eternity I'll sing on, I'll sing on; and through eternity I'll sing on. Words: Anon, early American, 1867Remember Your LoveBy: Darryl Ducote, Gary Daigle, Mike Balhoff Refrain: Remember your love and your faithfulness, O Lord. Remember your people and have mercy on us, Lord The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? The Lord is my life and my refuge; when I call, He hears. If you dwelt, O Lord, upon our sinfulness, then who could stand? But with You there is mercy and forgiveness and a guiding hand.O Lord, hear the sound of my call and answer me.My heart cries out for Your presence; it is You I seek.As sentinels wait upon the daylight, wait for the Lord.I trust in your kindness and redemption; and your faithful word. Before all the mountains were begotten and earth took shape,Even then, O Lord, you were our refuge throughout ev'ry age.© Damean Music, 1978

As our Unitarian Universalist Association once again considers its Principles and Purposes, the Article II Bylaws Commission asks us to center Love as the enduring force that holds us together. What are your thoughts on the re-visioning of the Principles and Purposes of our Association? How might we move love to the center of the mission and vision of our faith?Sunday, December 4, 2022

This is a devotional taken from "Daily Devotions from the Psalms" written by Rev. John A. Heys, and published by the Reformed Book Outlet in Hudsonville, Michigan. Rev. Heys studied in the Protestant Reformed Seminary under the instruction of Herman Hoeksema and George M. Ophoff. He was ordained to the ministry of the Word, and installed as pastor, in Hope Protestant Reformed Church in Walker, Michigan in 1941. He served consecutively, and under the blessing of God effectively, three other Protestant Reformed churches, till his emeritation in 1980. In his 'retirement' he continued to be of service to the churches, and evidence of which is this set of daily devotions, one for each day of the year, published originally some 25 years ago by the Men's Society of Hudsonville (MI) Protestant Reformed Church, and reprinted here for the spiritual benefit of readers old and new. Scripture passages quoted by Rev. Heys are from the King James Version of the Bible, and the versification of the Psalms to which he refers are from the 1912 edition of the Psalter. May these brief meditations of Rev. Heys serve for the edification of the reader, as they also deepen his appreciation for the psalms-those "immortal songs of the Holy Spirit, those matchless hymns of the Bible which...with their measured language of religious feeling and devotion will abide until the end" (preface to the 1912 Psalter). Dr. Edward Sri speaks about the common symbol of Christianity -- the Cross. Christians are very familiar with the cross. They have crosses in their churches, in their homes, as jewelry — but do they understand what it really means and what it's all about? This talk explores the meaning of Christ's cross, how it frees us from sin, and how it transforms our lives. For more content from speakers like this, join us at SEEK23 in St. Louis, January 2-6, 2023. Pastor Taylor Shippy - Philippians 2:4-11 We are continuing out series looking at the Atonement: Cherish That Old Rugged Cross. This week we look at the Cross as the penultimate example or model of love. God's love was on full display on the Cross, and it beckons us to imitate that kind of self-giving love in our own lives. If we are truly to be Christians, we must love like our Lord loved!

Folk melodies are often used along with hymn texts. In this episode I share an arrangement of one such hymn(What Wondrous Love is This) and discuss what makes a folk tune and why they work well with hymns.
An expensive flask of perfume. A fresh loaf of bread. Two objects that when broken, point to the death of Jesus Christ.
