On this episode of the SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show, Wayne Kimmel interviewed the Chairman of Athletes.org, Jim Cavale.Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, Cavale found early success on both the baseball diamond and basketball court at Christian Brothers Academy. Cavale's athletic journey took him south to the University of Montevallo, where he played baseball on scholarship. While his dreams of turning pro did not materialize, a new passion emerged: blending sports and entrepreneurship.During college, Cavale founded NextSpex—an audio-video streaming platform that evolved into a recruiting network connecting high school athletes with college coaches. Along the way, he grew into adulthood, marrying his wife Yazmin, an entrepreneur in the beauty industry, and together they built their family. In August 2023, Cavale transitioned from his role as CEO of INFLCR, remaining a shareholder at Teamworks, to launch Athletes.org (AO). AO is pioneering the organization of college athletes into sport- and conference-specific chapters, providing on-demand support, a collective voice, and group licensing NIL opportunities—innovations reshaping the future of college athletics. As the industry evolves, Cavale is committed to ensuring that college athletes have a meaningful say in its direction.Jim Cavale:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimcavale/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jimcavaleX: https://x.com/jimcavale?s=20
RIDINOUTALLDAY Podcast Ep. 203 – Yazmin Royal Brings the Heat
Today's Sip & Savor: Seis Soles Rosé About Yazmin: Yazmin Garcia is a 32-year-old U.S. citizen, stay-at-home mother of three, and talented artist from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She creates artwork that celebrates Hispanic culture, empowers women, and advocates for mental health awareness. Her work has been featured at the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas and previously at the Mayor's Museum in Las Vegas (featuring her piece "Ojo de Coatlicue"). In this powerful and deeply personal episode, Yazmin shares her immigration journey with raw honesty and vulnerability. From arriving in the United States at age two in 1994 to facing deportation at 17, she opens up about the complex identity struggles of feeling "ni de aquí, ni de allá" (neither from here nor there). Yazmin discusses the trauma of voluntary departure, her experience as a "no sabo kid" returning to Mexico, and the incredible resilience that carried her through adaptation in a country she barely remembered. Now, as a U.S. citizen and mother, she's using her voice and art to advocate for the next generation while addressing the current climate of anti-immigrant sentiment. Episode OverviewKey Conversation Points Identity and Belonging: Growing up feeling caught between two worlds - not American enough, not Mexican enough The Impact of Documentation: Understanding from a young age the significance of having "papers" Deportation Experience: The traumatic reality of voluntary departure at 17 years old Cultural Adaptation: Learning Spanish and Mexican culture as a teenager after 15 years in the U.S. Community and Family: The warmth and acceptance found in Mexico despite initial language barriers Resilience and Advocacy: Using personal experience to support and guide younger immigrants Art as Activism: Creating artwork that celebrates culture and advocates for mental health Motherhood and Home: Defining home as where family and life are built, regardless of origin About Yazmin's Art Yazmin's artwork focuses on: Celebrating Hispanic culture Empowering women Advocating for mental health awareness Her notable exhibition pieces include "Ojo de Coatlicue" and work displayed at: Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas Mayor's Museum in Las Vegas (previously) Resources & Reflection This episode serves as a reminder of the human stories behind immigration statistics. Yazmin's journey illustrates the strength, adaptability, and contributions of immigrant communities while challenging harmful stereotypes and narratives.

She's also quite the World traveler spending a lot of her time in Havana, Cuba where she teaches music and culture and eventually incorporating her own experiences into her own music. Chris Smart joins us this week on the Health Gospel Church Podcast. Chris was born and grew up in the Scottish Highlands. Chris' family didn't grow up in the church, but when he was 18 he went to study Chemistry in the city of Aberdeen and there through the witness of a fellow student, came to faith in Christ. After about a year he began to sense God's call to ministry finishing his Chemistry degree and worked briefly in an oil laboratory. This was followed with six months teaching English in Peru, before returning to Scotland where he studied for a further three years in Edinburgh at the Free Church of Scotland College. Chris spent his first years of ministry working mainly in a deprived area of Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, where many people with addictions came to faith in Christ. During his time in the north of Scotland Chris was also a chaplain to the local prison and served on the financial, strategic and missions boards of the Free Church of Scotland. Chris is married to Yazmin from Columbia and they have two sons, Joshua and Matthew. In July 2017 Chris and his family moved to Tampa. The opportunities for the Gospel in the north of Tampa is huge with a fast-growing population and along with a really committed group of believers in Hope Church. On this episode a listener's therapist hid behind a magazine after they saw each other in public. Yazmin (12:31) wonders if therapy could be helpful for the grief she's experiencing a year after her husband died. The resource about prolonged grief at Columbia University can be found here. A listener (21:20) gave a thank you card to their therapist but he didn't acknowledge it which is creating distance in the relationship. The very end of our discussion highlights one of the themes in the show. We have a review at 11:22 which includes a suggestion to review _Freud's Last Session_ once it's released. Please contact us if you think you'll see the movie and would like to discuss it. "No regular listener of this podcast thinks that I believe I'm above ridiculousness."
