Carlos Becerra has had a profound impact on my life. As my high school art teacher, he was the first person to see my creative ability, and it changed me. We talk about his early years coming over from Honduras as a child, how he got into photography and photographed parts from the first space shuttle as a high schooler, his journey to become an art teacher, and more. Carlos has taught me so much, and I am honored to haveast and him on the podc in my life. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/3vies/message

This is my conversation with the incredible Kori. I honestly have no idea how I came across Kori's work but in the first few seconds of reading her bio, I was so connected with her philosophy and mindset. She is an amazing human with one of the most beautiful souls I have had a chance to meet. Had a random thought about why followers don't really matter that much. It's based on a documentary about how wealth grows. Made me realize how meaningless the idea of followers and likes really are because they are not scarce. It doesn't cost anything to follow millions upon millions of people. I wonder what would happen to the algorithms if we could have a bot make everyone follow everyone. Ultimately, followers and likes have no meaning because they have no cost. Therefore I have a hunch that follower count and likes will either become so inflated they will lose all meaning or the platforms will introduce scarcity to the system to keep social currency relevant. My interview with the incredible Jonathan Weaver. OMG, I was so excited about this. I came across the anti blueprint project when I started researching Kickstarter book projects and I was instantly involved with this concept. As I mention in the interview I think Johnathan and I are kindred spirits. We are two people that have come to find power in the journey of discovering your own path and interview other successful people to learn and share a few more examples. His story is no different. I was totally inspired by his work, his energy, and his kindness he has shown me in being willing to help my project. He is an incredible human. TL;DR 2:03 to jump straight into the conversation and skip the intro This is part 2 of the 2 part conversation with Amy (for her backstory on how she became an author and artist check out part 1). In this video, we dive rightist the details of how Amy published two children’s books. She details the steps you can take and points out the serendipitous events that played a role in her making the connections needed to get these books into your hands. This is her journey navigating the publishing world and she shares some tips and tricks that can help push you along in your journey as well. I really hope this will inspire you to realize how very possible it is for you to be able to get your idea published. I know it is hard but it has never been more possible and practical to be a creator. So much is available for those who are willing to make it happen. Amy Webb is an author and artist. She recently released her second children’s book (Book 1 - When Charley met Emma, Book 2 - Awesomely Emma) and both books are about a child with limb differences. They are wonderful books I highly recommend them. So this is part one of a 2 part discussion I have with Amy about her journey/path to becoming a published author. In this first part, we talk about her backstory. Amy is a multifaceted creative and this is the backstory to all the inspirations and inspirations that lead to her publishing “When Charley met Emma”. Part 2 will be about the process she went through to actually publish her books and how she was able to navigate the publishing world. Talking with McKenzie on this episode I think will really be very meaningful for a lot of people who resonate with her story. She never identified as wanting to own a business or work as a creative but here she is running her own business as a virtual assistant and you can as well. You can learn what you need to create the life and career you want as well. She is early on in her journey but I think she has so much to offer others just starting out or thinking they may want to pursue that freelancing or small business. I have been watching her grinding and doing the work, showing up and getting uncomfortable. Honestly, that is what made me reach out. Her work. She is persistent and I can see how much she has grown. (TL;DR - Skip to 13:50 to jump right to the start of the critique) I have been working on a redesign of the 3vies logo and branding for a little over a year now. Not constantly but in-between projects or I have been constantly sketching things when ideas hot and trying new ideas. So this is me talking with my friend Oscar, who is a designer and all-around creative. The first part is my just talking through some frustrations a struggle and getting my thoughts out. I hope you get some help just seeing a couple of creatives have a conversation about branding while I am trying to work through my re-branding. I wanted to pull back the covers and let others see what it's like before it is introduced. It’s a ton of passion, love, and work that is going into everything I do. I do love it! I wanted to talk about the fact growing up it was never talked about the idea that I could be a stay-at-home dad and I really wish that idea would have been discussed. I wanted to talk about the fact that if I could I would love to stay at home and clean and help the kids with their school work. I think it's where I am most comfortable. As we break down gender norms I think it's really important to talk with your partner. It can look different than one breadwinner. More importantly, don't just assume it's the woman who will stay home when kids come. If you are anything like me be open to taking on that responsibility. I wish I had. I just wish I would have seen the option was there. Even though I did not, I was abler to find an employer that shared my desires and valued the type of father I wanted to be. That's why self-awareness is so vital and the sooner you are able to uncover that the more liberty you will have to become fully you. Jordan is a professional software engineer consultant and for the last few years, lived and worked in the San Fransisco bay area, designing and developing software for a range of clients in Silicon Valley. He decided to flip the script, sell all his stuff to live and work full time remote with no home base. I have long admired Jordan's unique perspective on the world, Mostly because it causes me to challenge my viewpoint. (great traits I tend to look for in friend) We talk about this and so much more in our almost 2-hour conversation together. The biggest thing to look at in this conversation is this, notice how Jordan says things like, “I’m not sure if a agree with this but I am trying this notion on s a possible viewpoint...” Or, “let's just say [this notion or believe] is true…now let’s follow this logic”. It's his ability to try on a new concept to see if it could add value or understanding. He allows himself to be "wrong" in order to discover more clarification. In further conversation with him, he said: "I think that I don't identify myself as 'I know the Truth' but rather 'I am one who can uncover truth'". Okay, I know this is crazy long but I took an evening to sit down with two of my favorite creative people I have worked with, and that is none other than Oscar Tijerina and Wayne Hartman. Both are super creative from 2 very diverse backgrounds. Wayne is super technical and Oscar comes from the Design world but both are equally creative. This conversation breakdown the notion that creativity is part of a title and explains how it is a necessary part of every title. From developer to designer to business leader, creativity is part of every human being. I hope you enjoy this conversation. check out the latest volume of 3vies Magazine - https://3vies.com

Eileen and I talk publishing. Traditional vs self-publishing. I have spent the past 6 years publishing 5 volumes of an annual magazine centered on learning how to live life intentionally. So she shares her experience, why she chose to get a publisher, how she went about finding one (in America and in France). This is my most vulnerable conversation yet. Matt and I talk about our time working together designer/developer apps together. We then spend the majority of our time sharing each their experience leaving Mormonism/LDS church (and religion in general for me). It is not an easy topic to address. It gets very personal and very detailed but we both hope that this conversation can be helpful for someone. I believe religion can give people a framework which they can use to navigate life. If you find a framework/religion that works for you and helps you become a more loving, caring person, that is great. For me religion was not a framework that was helpful but I want to be clear, my intention is to continue to be respectful of other people’s beliefs. Yet at the same time, we are sharing our stories of what has been our experience and how it was very much counter to the narrative we were taught growing up in the church. My story is mine. Your story is yours. My hope is we can hear each other’s story and use that new information to challenge our own assumptions and prior beliefs in order to create more well-rounded belief systems, individually and as a collective. 3vies Volume 32 - https://3vies.com/store/vol32 3vies Volume 32 PDF Preview (my written story) - https://3vies.com/vol32-preview Joseph Smith Papers Matt referenced - https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/paper-summary/revelation-book-1/15 David Whitmer’s published address/experience - https://books.google.com/books?id=wVU3AAAAMAAJ&pg=PA1&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=3#v=onepage&q&f=false CES Letters is another helpful resource - https://cesletter.org

This is my attempt to address the critical unrest we have right now in America around the black lives matter movement, or at least attempt to understand my place in all of it. Some of the main points I hope to get across: - I am trying to be an active listener - I am seeking first to understand - I am trying to challenge my own assumptions in order to create new and more wholistic beliefs - I am seeking habits and routines I can implement to make this awakening become part of who I am and how I think - I believe open dialogue is a critical tool to help us navigate this - I realize this is not about "other people" this is about you and I identifying and challenging our own prejudices - I realize to hut you is to hurt me - I realize we are all one, unique but united

This is a new series of interviews that will be included in 3vies Volume 34 that will go for pre-order on March 25, 2020. It is an extensions of a series started with the first issue I ever put out, Volume 30. It was a way for me to simple share who was inspiring me at the time. It later took that title. first it was just a snipet of a person and has now grown into a full interview process. I have more coming over the next couple months. Josh is an incredible person and was gracious enough to give me a few hours of his time. I hope you enjoy what he has to say as much as I did.
s34e6 - In this episode I layout 3 basic principles I have used in my journey of learning to live life intentionally. I hope it can help you begin to make clear conscious decisions on what kind of life you want to create for yourself. There is a real power in taking control and discovering what you want and believe.
s34e5 - This episode is about being truthful about my career. I have hide behind the truth for years, hoping people don't find out the truth about me...That I have. a day job. I wanted people to think I was a successful photographer/videographer. The truth is, I am...and I have a day job that pays my bills so I can pursue other passion projects at this time. #truth
s34e4 - Just wanted to take a second and highlight the fact that creativity is messy and inefficient. That means there is a lot of time you get thing wrong or in this case loose hours of work. That's okay. It's the imperfections that keep us improving.
I was going through a decade of photos and videos I have created and just realized the importance of creating. I can’t go back and capture anything from what I was in that moment. I only create now and consume it later. It’s a fascinating concept and a big reason I have started really doubling down on creating more content.
S34e2 - Starting. This is all about letting the desire for high quality content keeps me from starting to create. I hope to change this and it starts by just jumping in and allowing your stuff to suck because the only way to close that creative gap and make your stuff suck less is by creating more. So here is to the process of refining your message! Cheers
s34e1 - I wanted to share my journey of creating and launching an indie magazine centered on learning to live life intentionally. I am really interested in hearing about your passion project. In depth case study on how I created a self published indie magazine - https://3vies.com/launching
