The Benefits of a Nomadic Life Have you ever felt trapped in the monotony of daily life, yearning for something more? Rick Higgins did, and he ditched his conventional suburban existence for an adventurous life on the road in a converted school bus. Rick, a software engineer by trade, found himself at a breaking point. The daily grind led to a massive burnout, and he realized he couldn't continue living the life he had been. With the support of his girlfriend, he made the bold decision to quit his job and embark on a two-year journey to discover himself. What started as a temporary escape turned into a permanent lifestyle change. Living in a renovated school bus, Rick and his girlfriend have traveled across the United States and beyond, experiencing the beauty of nature and the kindness of strangers. From swimming with whale sharks in La Paz to finding peace in the quiet deserts of Utah, their adventures have been nothing short of extraordinary. Rick's decision was spurred, in part, by the death of his friend. The message iwas clear: don't wait. Whether it's taking a gap year or making a significant life change, the time to act is now. And Rick did. This is his story. You can learn more about Rick at Learn more at What they're saying: “This is a beautiful book about life, its imperfections, its challenges, and its joys. In this episode I have the absolute privilege of chatting with the brilliant and lovely Diana Davis. As she describes herself in her own podcast, Pollen, she is a gemini, manifesting-generator, rancher's daughter, nomad, matcha snob, former photographer and graphic designer, and the cherry on top, a multi-six figure business owner. I met Diana through Instagram when she sent me a message that I could have possibly interpreted as having an ulterior motive of making a sale. But there was something authentic about it that made me reply. Since then, we've been floating around in each other's worlds at a distance and I look forward to the day when I can join one of her extremely well thought out business coaching programs. Diana shares with me the path she took from living on a ranch, to moving to NYC without a plan, hustling her butt off as a photographer, and taking the leap to coaching creative entrepreneurs. A leap that has absolutely paid off. I highly recommend connecting with Diana to follow along her inspiring journey! In this episode, you will be able to: Gain a realistic perspective on the digital nomad lifestyle and learn how to navigate the challenges that come with it. Differentiate between the hype and the reality of being a digital nomad, and discover what it truly takes to succeed in this lifestyle. Understand the challenges and responsibilities that come with being a digital nomad, and learn how to effectively manage them. Discover the importance of research and preparation before diving into the digital nomad lifestyle, and learn how to set yourself up for success. Learn the value of creating meaningful work and building a solid business foundation as a digital nomad, and gain insights on how to do so effectively. Being insta-famous is not a business plan. It's a lottery ticket. - Mike Wiston Gain realistic perspective and separate fact from fictionIt's easy to romanticize the digital nomad lifestyle - working from an exotic beach, free from the conventional office setting. However, it's crucial to separate fact from fiction and recognize that this lifestyle is not a get-rich-quick scheme, rather, it's a dedicated grind. Balancing the attractions with the challenges, such as finding reliable Wi-Fi and handling multiple business responsibilities, is key to achieving success. The resources mentioned in this episode are: Don't fall for the hype of becoming insta-famous as a business plan. Instead, focus on finding a service or product that sells and offers real value. Before diving into the digital nomad lifestyle, ask yourself what your value is and what you have to offer. This will help you set realistic expectations and goals. If you're serious about becoming a digital nomad, do your research and prepare yourself for the challenges that come with it, such as time zone differences, language barriers, and feeling alone in a crowd. Don't be fooled by shiny get-rich-quick schemes. Stay curious and question why someone is selling you a dream. Focus on finding your own path rather than buying someone else's map. In this week's #MoneyMagic episode, Vangile interviews Amel Derragui, a business and marketing coach, speaker and the founder of Tandem Nomads (tandemnomads.com). In this podcast Amel talks to us about various aspects of personal and business growth, focusing on themes such as adaptability, mindset shifts around money, the importance of self-awareness, and building businesses aligned with one's lifestyle. She shares her personal journeys, emphasizing the transformative effects of living in different countries and the lessons she's learned along the way. She also highlights the importance of embracing sales and marketing as a means of serving others and building relationships, rather than merely selling. She also takes us through the importance of self-love, healing past traumas, discovering one's true purpose to make a positive impact in the world and defining your zone of genius. She also emphasizes the need for clarity, consistency, and conversion in marketing strategies, while cautioning against self-shaming and overworking. This is yet another incredible episode. Tune in! It's interesting how sometimes there's a superpower in us that is guiding our way. I don't know if it's our soul spirit or whatever, but it feels as if I had some invisible hand pushing me through a certain journey. Money is also a multiplier of impact. The more money you make, the more impact you can make in the world. Do things, start somewhere, do something. And then the more you do, the more the answers will come to you. Don't think about it. Thinking is not going to get you the answers, but doing will. We can be a visionary. We can keep innovating, moving on, but let there be space of being grateful for what we achieved already. In today's installment of The Weekly, Ryan invokes a peculiar theory from the French Enlightenment philosopher Rousseau in order to discuss the path to fulfillment and the way of contentment."Rousseau believed that this simple and humble way of life, this life without unnecessary ambitions, without exorbitant desires, without an inflated sense of what one really needs, was a life of tranquility and satisfaction—a life of fulfillment and happiness. I suppose one could sum this up by saying that, for Rousseau, happiness—at least in part—is a matter of perspective."About Ryan, Host of Thinker Sensitive:Ryan Ragozine is the host of Thinker Sensitive. Needless to say, a lot has happened in the last couple of months…I attended an Ayahuasca retreat in Costa Rica, we kicked off and completed the Momentum Project, my family took a quick trip back to the US, and then we arrived in Italy where we're currently at to host the Revival Retreat. So, it's time to catch up and share some really deep and honest reflections. After my Ayahuasca experience, I had this “aha” moment on the streets of NYC feeling so much unexpected relief. I've learned I refuse to sacrifice life based on fear or pain. It's made nomadic living so much more enjoyable… except in Sicily! Tune in to the episode to find out how my family experienced Sicily and if it's changed our future as nomads. As I said in the episode, “fear is the bridge between where I am now and where I'm meant to be.” Thanks for listening. Thanks for being here. I am emotional in my luteal phase, but feeling so. damn. grateful. TOPICS DISCUSSED The birthing process of the Momentum Project and how I'm feeling now that it's over Ayahuasca intentions and post-ceremony integrations Emotional and physical breakthroughs after Ayahuasca Refusing to sacrifice life due to pain Putting in the work to be, do, and have whatever you want (in that order) Feeling sad in Sicily and how I really feel about Italy Are we putting a pause on nomadic living? Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky took the company public, laid off 25% of its staff and navigated worker demands for flexibility – all during the pandemic. Oh, and his mom moved in (and made him quiche every day). In this conversation with Kara, Brian discusses the challenge of being professionally successful and, sometimes, personally lonely. They talk about how the pandemic may have permanently changed how we work, travel and live. And Kara gets answers about the company's lack of transparency on those dreaded cleaning fees. Before the interview, Kara and Nayeema talk about billionaires owning social media networks. They discuss Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who seems to be riding the MAGA train to amass power in the Republican party. And they reflect on the story of Iranian rock climber Elnaz Rekabi, who caused a stir on social media this week in the midst of the nation's anti-government protests. … oh yes, and they dispense some dating advice. If you want advice – it doesn't have to be about dating – call 1-888-KARA-PLZ! You can find Kara and Nayeema on Twitter @karaswisher and @nayeema. Learn more about your ad choices. Jesse chats with a number of YNAB employees who are living, or working towards living, a "nomadic" life -- living and working across the US in a variety of places throughout the year. While this type of lifestyle can create some amazing freedoms (Megan, for instance, arranges her work schedule so that she can spend her mornings skiing during the winter), it also requires a lot of careful planning! That's where YNAB comes in. Maintaining a trailer, motorhome, or RV and handling the costs of living in new places involves lots of planning around true expenses and rolling with the punches. The nomadic ladies of YNAB share their experiences shifting to an unconventional lifestyle, and how the budgeting lessons they learned from the Four Rules have helped them make it happen.
