(The English text follows below)新しいPodcastをupしました。 A new podcast has been uploaded. The idea of a language barrier between father and son may not make much sense to those of us living in Japan. Akira, my friend/ online Japanese student, who I interviewed this time, has a Japanese father from Kyoto and a mother from Mexico. He grew up in the United States and was educated mainly in English because they thought it would be confusing to learn multiple languages as a child. His father is not very good at English, so he began studying his father's native language, Japanese, and his mother's native language, Spanish, as an adult. This time, he stayed in Kyoto, his father's roots, for three months and shared his thoughts with us, as well as some wonderful stories that happened during his stay.Youtube:https://youtu.be/Qty1i0JJ3-g?si=aBmr85HFGifoq8uJSpotify:https://open.spotify.com/episode/4XBQu0MdRcUbJoKomquCiY...Akari's online Japanese lesson:https://www.italki.com/teacher/916033Akari's information:https://linktr.ee/akari.japanese

On last podcast, I talked about what we do to prepare for the new year. Today, I talk about after new year come, what we do.
(From japan-guide.com) New Year (正月, shōgatsu) is the most important holiday in Japan. Most businesses shut down from January 1 to January 3, and families typically gather to spend the days together. Years are traditionally viewed as completely separate, with each new year providing a fresh start. Consequently, all duties are supposed to be completed by the end of the year, while bonenkai parties (忘年会"year forgetting parties") are held with the purpose of leaving the old year's worries and troubles behind. Homes and entrance gates are decorated with ornaments made of pine, bamboo and plum trees, and clothes and houses are cleaned. (大掃除 big cleaning) On New Year's eve, toshikoshi soba (年越しそば buckwheat noodles), symbolizing longevity, are served. A more recent custom is watching the music show "kohaku uta gassen", a highly popular television program featuring many of Japan's most famous J-pop and enka singers in spectacular performances.
Today, online Japanese teacher, Tatsuki and Akari talks about international marriage. (国際結婚 こくさいけっこん)
日本のクリスマスとお正月は北米と逆だなと感じます。日本はクリスマスがパーティー、サンタクロースのイメージ。お正月はもう少し神聖で家族で集まったり。 I feel Japanese Christmas and New Year's Holidays are opposite from north America. Christmas is festival feeling, and New Year's holiday are more holy feeling, and we gather with our family.

Normally we say 1月、2月、3月(January, February, March) in standard Japanese. But we used to use lunar calendar before, and at that time, we have other words to describe month of the year. For example, 弥生(やよい、yayoi) =March, 皐月(さつき、satsuki)=May, 葉月(はづき、hazuki). My favorite one is 神無月(かんなづき, kannazuki, meaning=God, no, month). Only Shimane prefecture where Izumo-shrine is they call 神在月(かみありづき、kamiarizuki, mean=God, there, month) ☆ Akari's Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/m/akari_japanese ☆ Akari's italki online lesson: https://www.italki.com/teacher/916033 ☆Akari's website: https://akarijapanese.com
