The Sober Mom Life
From Weekend Warrior to Sober Coach with Real Sober Mom Jessica

The Sober Mom Life

As the daughter of a high school principal, Jessica felt a lot of pressure to stay in line. She never drank in high school, and even abstained through her freshman year of college. As the persona of ‘principal's daughter' wore off, though, alcohol became a regular part of her life.  This became challenging when Jessica moved back to her hometown and took a job in education. Always worried about her public image, she kept her wits about her when drinking in public and began to prefer drinking at home. As she became a mom and shifted her career to work from home, drinking at home became a nightly habit.  Jessica and her husband moved to a lake home and began to throw regular parties. This ‘‘weekend warrior' phase felt so fun - until it wasn't. She increasingly found herself starting the week hungover and on the back foot.  It was at this moment that Instagram dropped one of Suzanne's videos onto Jessica's feed - a video simply telling her that she was allowed to not drink. This message hit on a feeling that Jessica hadn't been able to voice, and something within her began to shift.  On New Year's Eve it all came to a head and Jessica followed her instinct - she didn't want to drink that night. She felt more present with her family as they celebrated and made a big realization - sobriety was her new path. Sobriety has opened incredible new avenues for her! She is now a certified life coach and has begun to offer focused support to high achieving women interested in sobriety!  Jessica recommends the incredible Casey Davidson if you're looking for further sobriety support Are you looking for community in sobriety? On New Year's Eve, I took my first-ever psilocybin journey, and I can't wait for you to hear all about it.This has been a long time in the making — about a year and a half ago, I started learning about psilocybin and other plant medicines, and how they've been used for healing with abuse survivors and those with PTSD.My purpose in wanting to do this was to explore the depths of my trauma that I hadn't yet unlocked, and bring stuff to the surface that I could work through. But with my deep, long-seated fear of losing control of my body, I felt too vulnerable to try it on my own. When the opportunity to experience mushrooms finally happened, and I'm going to say this a lot in this episode, it was wild! And worth the wait.In this episode, I'm spilling all the details, including:how I trusted in divine timing after my first facilitated attempt fell through, and how it brought me to the realization that I was finally ready to do this on my own (with my husband)why I set an intention before we went into this experience, and how it helped me during the journeyhow mushrooms opened me up to receiving love and why I now understand why they are called “the love drug”the instant I finally acknowledged my calling to train as a Priestess, which I've been resisting, and owning my power as a Sorceressthe most impactful and powerful moment of reckoning with my abuser and how it has changed my life for the rest of my lifeWould I do it again? Absofuckinglutely, yes, I will do it again! I'm a changed woman after this experience and I'm so grateful.Listen in, and if you've also had a mushroom journey, I'd love to hear about what you learned from it too!Ready to watch the podcast on YouTube?Check it out HERE and be sure to subscribe!Interested in the new cohort of Revive Your Sacral, kicking off this September? >>>Book a free call with Adri here Download your free Human Design body graph here.Want to book your Human Design chart reading?Head over here to pick your dateI look forward to getting to know you better so please subscribe, rate, and review this episode!Connect with me on Instagram (@adrikeefe)Head over to www.AdrianaKeefe.com for your free Human Design body chart, tools, tips, and more!

From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Monday, December 25th and I'm Keith Ippolito. Cobb County Residents Urged to Drive Safely During Holiday Season Georgia State Patrol Troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance officers are stepping up patrols across interstates and state roads this holiday season, including in Cobb County, to ensure drivers stay safe during the festive period. Colonel Billy Hitchens, Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, highlighted the focus on preventing serious crashes by targeting unsafe driving habits and enforcing traffic laws. Last Christmas, GSP reported 589 crashes, 335 injuries, and 11 fatalities statewide. On New Year’s last year, nine fatalities occurred along with 317 crashes and 177 injuries. These sobering numbers underline the importance of safe driving practices. Cobb County drivers are urged to obey speed limits, stay alert, and have a plan for a sober driver. “If you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested,” added Hitchens. Criminals keep coming up with new schemes to part car owners from their vehicles. In this video, you'll learn about yet another trick car thieves use to snatch your car from right under your nose. SUMMARY: According to the FBI's statistics, 2 cars are stolen every minute in the US. This adds up to almost 3,000 cars a day! According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the most targeted cars are the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Ford pickups, Chevrolet pickups, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Dodge pickups, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Impala, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The largest number of car thefts occur on Halloween, followed by Labor Day. On New Year's Day, the chances of losing your car are also pretty high. As soon as you get out of your car to get a closer look at this mysterious banknote, criminals will jump into action. They will get into your car and drive off at record-breaking speed. Walk around your car to check if anything is amiss before you unlock it and start the engine. One sure sign that you're in danger is an almost empty parking lot and another car parked next to yours with somebody sitting inside. A car thief may bump against your car to check if you have an alarm. Many car alarms are so sensitive that a loud motorbike or a rumbling truck can set them off. Some criminals cause car accidents on purpose. For example, they hit another car at the traffic lights. Sometimes you make the life of car thieves much easier without realizing it. Lots of people keep their spare keys inside their car or in a special magnetic box attached to the underside of their vehicle. Don't leave your spare keys inside your car! Keep them at home, or ask your family members or friends to look after them. And make sure there isn't a set of spare keys in your car that you know nothing about. Episode 507 - Why the First 30 Days Can be Rough   Today we have Jason. He is 56 years old and from Minneapolis, MN. He took his last drink on December 31st, 2021.   Sponsors for this episode:   Better Help  - code ELEVATOR for 10% off of your first month   [01:06] Intro:   In today's episode you are going to hear Jason say that he doesn't identify as an alcoholic. How many alcoholics do you think have been interviewed on the podcast? Paul says the answer is zero.   Zero because whenever people hear the word alcoholic, the first things that come to mind are homeless, living under a bridge, brown paper bag. Zero guests have fit this description.   Studies show that only 5% of alcoholics are actually homeless, living under a bridge, etc. However we are all walking the same path regardless of how far it takes us.   It's never too late to get help, and we've got your back. The real villain here is alcohol, not the addict. In 2024, you can be alcohol-free, you can be sober, you can be sober curious, you can be an alcoholic in recovery. At the end of the day it's all about getting honest with yourself.   [04:16] More thoughts from Paul:   Drinking can be challenging in the first 30 days. Paul shares with us a piece about this that uses an analogy comparing our brain and neurotransmitters to toy boxes and toys.   During recovery, our brain is resetting itelf now that the alcohol is halted. This will take time. A couple of week to a couple of months. Go slow, be kind to yourself and let the body heal. Your part is not drinking, and the universe solves the other part which is time.   [07:36] Paul introduces Jason:   Jason has lived in Minnesota all of his lfe, currently in Minneapolis. He is married with two sons, 14 and 12. He works in sales. Jason says for fun, he is getting into golf and he is a pilot who enjoys flying for fun as well as for business.   Jason says he had his first drink as a junior in high school. It wasn't a remarkable event but he ended up becoming a typical drinker: parties and weekends, etc. He got married when he was 21 to his first wife, and she did not drink. Therefore Jason didn't drink much during his 20s. The company he worked in sales for, had a big drinking culture that Jason started to get more involved in. Around the same time his marriage wasn't working out and he found himself divorced and drinking more often afterwards. At the time it didn't feel out of control although in hindsight Jason feels it was excessive – almost daily and every weekend complete with hangovers.   In his 40s Jason met his current wife who is a social drinker. His drinking continued, but he did begin to question it. He began to try a lot of methods of moderations, some of them worked for him but it became exhausting after doing it for about five years. On December 17th of 2021, he had decided he was going to quit. He says he drank a lot for the first week or so after that as a reminder to himself of how bad it was.   On New Year's Eve, Jason had two beers and ended up dumping out half of his third. He was done. Jason said the first month went well and the biggest thing he missed was having something to look forward to. Once he made the decision it wasn't that hard for Jason.   Jason shares that he read a lot and listened to podcasts which really helped him. He mentions the book Almost Alcoholic which helped him identify that he was in the middle ground with his drinking.  Jason has had no desire to return to drinking and his cravings were few and far between over the last nearly three years. Going forward, Jason wants to find more hobbies and things he enjoys doing with his kids. He enjoys the subtle calm that is in his life now.   Jason's parting piece of guidance: you don't have to identify as an alcoholic for quitting to be the best option for you.   Recovery Elevator We took the elevator down, we got to take the stairs back up. If you're ready to hear a raw, honest story about breaking free from drinking habits and taking control of your life, this episode with Sean Robinson is for you. More info, resources & ways to connect: https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/sean-robinson In this episode of Even Tacos Fall Apart, MommaFoxFire interviews Sean Robinson, a 39-year-old author, speaker, and motivator, who shares his journey of overcoming habitual drinking. Sean, who works in construction and is a volunteer firefighter, speaks candidly about his struggles with alcohol and how it affected his life, relationships, and mental health. Sean grew up in an environment where drinking was normalized. His parents were young, and parties with alcohol were a regular part of life. He recalls learning to mix drinks at a young age and cleaning up after parties, which contributed to his view that drinking was a normal and ingrained part of social life. As he grew older, these habits stuck with him, especially in his construction job, where drinking with coworkers was a common way to bond and share stories. By the end of 2020, Sean's drinking habits had worsened due to the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. He reached 320 pounds and felt mentally and physically miserable. Despite being in a masculine, tough-it-out environment, Sean knew he needed to make a change. He started by venting his frustrations through journaling, which became a key outlet for him. On New Year's Eve, he decided to participate in Dry January, initially focusing on losing weight, but as he progressed, he began to realize how toxic his drinking routine had been. What began as a one-month challenge turned into an extended period of sobriety. Sean continued his journey through February and then decided to aim for an entire year without alcohol. Along the way, he immersed himself in self-help podcasts and books, which helped him develop strategies to maintain his new lifestyle. He became an advocate for personal growth, learning the importance of consistency and accountability. He tracked his progress on a calendar, marking each day he stayed sober, and this visual aid helped him stay motivated. Sean talks about how his transformation also impacted his relationships. He admits that, over time, he naturally grew apart from some friends with whom he had mainly bonded over drinking. However, he also developed stronger connections with new people who shared his new, healthier interests. He emphasizes the importance of being around people who support personal growth. At home, Sean made significant changes in his family life. He began implementing positive habits with his wife and three children, including a new tradition where they shared their favorite thing about each day at the dinner table. This small change helped improve the family's dynamic and encouraged a more positive atmosphere at home. Sean's story is one of perseverance and self-discovery. He stresses that change doesn't happen overnight and that there's no single path to overcoming habitual drinking. He encourages listeners to seek support and explore various resources, including free content like podcasts and social media, to find inspiration and motivation. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mommafoxfire/support

In Part 2, we dive into the story of how The Stud Collective pulled out the seemingly impossible—they found a new home in South of Market.   After a quick history of the space at 1123 Folsom (a leather bar in the Seventies called The Stables, Julie's Supper Club, a sports bar, a restaurant called Radius, and a vegetarian restaurant called Wellspring Commune that was a front for a cult called The Tribal Thumb, who were affiliated with the Symbionese Liberation Army ... and that space is rumored to have been one of the places that the SLA kept Patty Hearst—oh, San Francisco), Rachel guides us on a tour of the original location of The Stud, which was opened by Alexis Muir (a trans woman) in 1966.   Muir ran the OG Stud, also on Folsom west of the current location, for several years. Originally, it was a kinky/leather/cowboy/Western bar. It was the same year, just months before, that the Compton's Cafeteria Riots took place. Just a few years after it opened, The Stud shifted themes to more of a queer hippie bar. But one thing that helped it stand out from the get-go was its inclusivity.   The Stud remained in that original spot on Folsom until 1987. After Muir, a group of Milwaukee hippies who were also affiliated with Hamburger Mary's took over ownership. After this group, toward the end of the Seventies, another group took over. In 1987, following a dispute with the landlord, The Stud had to move. They found a spot on Harrison at Ninth that had previously been a nightclub.   We fast-forward a bit to revisit Marke, Rachel, and Honey's introductions to The Stud, which all took place at the Harrison location. Keeping with that spirit of inclusivity that had been a hallmark of the place since its opening, they all feel that it was the one place at the time where any segment of the queer population could feel at home.   In 2016, over Fourth of July weekend, The Stud's then-owner, Michael McElheney (who'd owned the place since the late-Nineties), announced that he was selling the business. The building it was in had been sold, the new landlords tripled the rent, and McElheney was ready to retire. But, as mentioned in Part 1, Nate Albee already had a plan in place.   Within the first week of McElheney's announcement, the fledgling collective presented the plan and it was accepted immediately. The group was already around 20 members strong. Honey and Rachel talk about other SF collectives and worker-owned businesses that they turned to for guidance and inspiration—Rainbow Grocery, Arizmendi, and the now-closed Lusty Lady. Marke says that, from its origin, the collective also wanted to serve as a beacon for how to do this elsewhere in the queer nightlife space.   On New Year's Eve 2016, The Stud Collective threw its Grand Opening party. The place never shut down between the previous owner and the collective taking over, but it felt right to celebrate the takeover.   Then, a little more than three years later, COVID hit. The rent was already exorbitant and they had decided to try to find another place. Once it became obvious that the shutdown was going to last longer than we all thought, they got out of the lease at the spot on Harrison, and even threw a funeral online. It wasn't an easy decision, but it turned out to be a unanimous one for the collective.   The Grand Opening Night at the new location took place this year on April 20 (haha?) and was themed "Stud Timeline." The first hour, which began at 6 p.m., was Sixties, the second hour was the Seventies, and so on. The Cockettes were there. Queer elders showed up. There were also first-timers.   It was a big deal, and the night was emotional for them all.   I asked them to plug events at The Stud during Pride, and Rachel obliged on behalf of the group: Friday, June 28, "Forever" with (co-op member) Vivian Forevermore Saturday, June 29, "Les Femmes," a celebration of dolls, twinks, and bimbos Sunday, June 30, a "marathon party" with a drag show hosted by Princess Poppy   We end Part 2 with Marke, Honey, and Rachel responding to this season's theme on the podcast: We're all in it.   We recorded this episode at The Stud in South of Market in June 2024.   Photography by Jeff Hunt

Episode 164. On New Year's Day, 2024, the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture was the epicenter of a major earthquake measuring a 7.6 on the Richter scale.  The affected areas are especially well known for sake brewing and in Ishikawa in particular, 24 out of 33 Ishikawa Sake Brewery Association member breweries suffered damage, with 8 suffering complete destruction. While the news of the earthquake and the recovery efforts have fallen out of the headlines, we wanted to offer our support and good wishes to the affected breweries inside Ishikawa and the surrounding prefectures as well, as they continue their road to recovery and rebuilding.  One thing we can all do to support the sake industry is easy - ordering more sake from the affected regions and keeping an eye out for Noto sakes when they make their return to the market.  We profile one such sake in this episode - Hakuto Tokubetsu Junmai. We look forward to supporting this brand and many others whenever they are able to restart brewing in their repaired facilities. Look for updates on this in future episodes!  #SakeRevolutionSupport the show

On New Year's Day, a group of 50 or so teens started a riot at the Bayside Marketplace, an outdoor mall just a few miles away from Miami's infamous South Beach. The teens were allegedly lighting off fireworks and fighting, and that led to complete panic and chaos at the mall along with numerous arrests. But social media had a completely different accounting of what happened at the mall!  Grainy video footage was posted showing an 8 to 10-foot grey beings; pictures of an overwhelming police response at the scene appeared, and social media reports of a large-scale power outage started surfacing, along with accounts of a full air traffic stoppage at Miami Dade International Airport. So which was it? Riotous teens creating mayhem? Or aliens invading Earth? The Paranormal 60's Dave Schrader, along with ex-military Texas law enforcement officer Greg Lawson break down the scene in Miami! They also discuss infrasound, Project Blue Beam, USOs, and the recent Congressional Hearings. Watch The Paranormal 60 with Dave Schrader: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWGeOJ6_2kXT1oOZOXGi_g STAY CONNECTED:TikTok: @ChrisJerichoInstagram: @talkisjericho @chrisjerichofozzy Twitter: @TalkIsJericho @IAmJerichoYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisJerichoFozzyWebsite: https://www.webisjericho.com/

On New Year’s Eve 2000, officials in Detroit carefully opened a hundred-year-old time capsule. Nestled inside the copper box were hopeful predictions from some city leaders who expressed visions of prosperity and technology. The mayor’s message, however, offered a different approach. He wrote, “May we be permitted to express one hope superior to all others . . . [that] you may realize as a nation, people, and city, you have grown in righteousness, for it is this that exalts a nation.” More than success, happiness, or peace, the mayor wished that future citizens would grow in what it means to be truly just and upright. Perhaps he took his cue from Jesus, who blessed those who long for God’s righteousness (Matthew 5:6). But it’s easy to get discouraged when we consider God’s perfect standard. Even with a century of striving, we would still fall short. Praise God that we don’t have to rely solely on our own effort to grow. The author of Hebrews said it this way: “May the God of peace . . . equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ” (Hebrews 13:20–21). We who are in Christ are made holy by his blood the moment we believe in Him (v. 12), but He actively grows the fruit of righteousness in our hearts throughout a lifetime. We will often stumble on the journey, yet still we look forward to “the city that is to come” where God’s righteousness will reign (v. 14).
