In this thought-provoking episode of The Chris Abraham Show, Chris delves into the complexities surrounding the psychological impact of environmental activism on children, particularly those from affluent backgrounds. He begins by reflecting on a young girl's involvement in environmental initiatives, expressing concern about the mental and emotional burden such responsibilities might place on her. Chris compares this with his own childhood experiences, including moving to Hawaii and the detachment and sense of elitism it instilled in him. This personal narrative serves as a backdrop to his broader critique of how affluent children are being educated about global issues. Chris discusses the delicate balance between raising environmentally conscious children and protecting their mental health. He questions whether the pressure to address global problems like climate change and environmental degradation could lead to existential dread and anxiety in young minds. The episode also touches on the socio-economic divide in environmental consciousness, suggesting that children from wealthier families might experience a unique form of psychological stress compared to those from less privileged backgrounds. Moreover, Chris explores the role of parents and educators in shaping children's perceptions of global challenges. He raises concerns about whether children are being overburdened with fears about the future, questioning the long-term effects of such an approach. Despite acknowledging significant progress in environmental conservation and pollution control, Chris remains critical of what he perceives as a potential overemphasis on global issues in children's education. Towards the end of the episode, Chris offers a nuanced view on the importance of finding a balance in environmental education, advocating for awareness without causing undue alarm. He concludes with a call for thoughtful consideration of how we involve young people in discussions about environmental and global issues, emphasizing the need to foster a balanced and healthy perspective. The lack of representation of young people and the lack of recognition of each person's dignity is a significant roadblock in the development of young people worldwide. In today's world, governments enact policies that disregard young people. But people, and young people, are committed to creating a world where everybody is treated with respect, regardless of who they are and where they come from. Each person has dignity, and young people want to contribute to nation building. World Youth Alliance works to promote the person's dignity by building a global coalition of young people. Last night ,as we celebrated World Youth Skills Day ,following our interview of Ruth (a young lady that plays the violin as her means of livelihood),it was a sad discovery for me ( as a podcaster for THE BOW), that the education system in Nigeria leaves you with only knowledge and doesn't empower you with skills to move unto sustainable livelihood.Hence ,a lot of Nigerian graduates are unemployed. The biggest barrier to develop the skills needed to pursue your career aspirations in Nigeria are: A. Don't know what skills I need. B.Can't afford training. C. Can't access training. D.No professional role models. E.Family expectations to focus on other things. It is very important that for us to achieve our career goals and have great skills that will make us have Sustainable Livelihoods,we MUST: A. Access to relevant online resources. B. Job-ready skills programmes in school. C. Access to on-the-job training --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/THE-BOW/support

Lexy Gilmour was an immensely talented junior athlete, representing Australia at World Youth level and the Youth Olympics. In 2007, disillusioned by the grind and single-mindedness of elite athletics, Lexy disappeared into the running wilderness for 5 years. In 2012, Lexy found her love for running and rekindled her competitive drive. The second phase of her running career has provided some tremendous success, representing Australia as a senior athlete at World XC and winning the Nagoya Half Marathon. She is truly a born-again runner! The perspective Lexy has gained from her 'game of two halves' will be valuable to a runner of any age but particularly young athletes. We also discuss some tips for better use of your elbows in the running pack, toughening up in the last km and hiding places for partners of the injured athlete!
