This week, Ross introduces Carie to the absolute delight that is Sister Act (1992), a film about a lounge singer who witnesses a murder and is forced to hide out in a convent of nuns. Ross has a lot of feelings on the arrangements of Sister Mary Clarence's lounge tunes in the church choir. Carie's heart is stolen by a sweet young nun with a surprisingly big voice. And surprisingly, the siblings see the power that Catholic guilt has in taking on the mafia. SUPPORT US ON PATREON!

Emerging from community theater in his teens, sparking a decades-long collaboration with Bette Midler in the '70s, surviving the AIDS crisis of the '80s and bursting into Hollywood and Broadway glory, Marc Shaiman has spent 50 years making some of the most beloved musicals and film scores of our era. Hilarious and deeply human, Shaiman's story is a tribute to the power of music and the pull of the spotlight. A composer who has been capturing our imaginations for over 40 years, Alan Menken is best known for his stage and screen compositions for a slew of Walt Disney films and subsequent stage musicals. He was one of the creative powerhouses behind what has become known as the Disney Renaissance, composing for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin amongst many other titles. And that was all in addition to his non-Disney shows, which include the classic Little Shop of Horrors and the stage version Sister Act. He's received an extraordinary number of awards – 8 Academy Awards, a Tony, 11 Grammies, 7 Golden Globes and a Daytime Emmy. He's collaborated with some of the most well-known lyricists in musicals – including Howard Ashman, Stephen Schwartz, Tim Rice, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. In this conversation, Alan traces his journey from a musically curious child more interested in improvising than practising, to one of the most decorated composers in entertainment history. He offers candid insights into his collaborations with lyricists such as Howard Ashman, the creative alchemy behind iconic works like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, and the constant process of rewriting, refining, and often discarding songs in pursuit of the finished product. Along the way, he speaks with honesty and humour about resilience, creative instinct, and the importance of not becoming too precious about your own work.A Whole New World of Alan Menken, comes to Melbourne's Palais Theatre on Wednesday May 6, and the Sydney Event Centre on Friday May 8.

John Treacy Egan is a Broadway star. He's an actor and a singer. He's perhaps best known for his work in The Producers, where he started off playing Franz Liebkind. Then he took over the role of Roger De Bris. Then he graduated to the leading role of Max Bialystock. And he was in the film version too. He's also been in many other shows including The Little Mermaid, Jekyll and Hyde, Bye Bye Birdie, Sister Act and Guys and Dolls. And he's been in a whole bunch of movies and tv shows as well including The Knick, Nurse Jackie and Boardwalk Empire. And as a singer he's released two CDs and been on various Broadway cast albums. This guy does everything. My featured song is “New York City Groove” from the Made In New York album by my band Project Grand Slam. Aisata Blackman ist eine niederländische Sängerin und Musiktheaterdarstellerin (TINA – Das Musical, Sister Act, Bodyguard, We Will Rock You). Another One Bites the Dust“ keine Fehler verzeiht. Zu den besonderen Momenten zählt auch der Premierenabend von „We Will Rock You“, als plötzlich Brian May von Queen mit auf der Bühne stand. Voller Dankbarkeit und Freude berichtet sie von diesem großartigen Beruf, der jedoch ein hohes Maß an Disziplin erfordert. From her intensive Broadway training to bringing the iconic video game character "Dollface" to life, Tiana shares what it truly means to "fail big" and find self-confidence in an industry that rarely offers handholding. Earlier this week, the City Council Finance Committee voted 25-10 to reject the mayor's budget proposal. Alders pushed back on a corporate head tax and borrowing for police settlements. The mayor said he would veto increases to garbage fees and grocery or property taxes. So what's next as the deadline to pass a budget draws closer? We ask The Tribune's Jake Sheridan and WBEZ's Mike Davis. Plus, five years after nationwide calls to further diversify theaters, has anything changed?
