Hey Friend! Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the challenges that come with being a coaching family? Have you ever experienced loneliness or exhaustion, juggling all the family things while feeling like a single parent? Do you sometimes wonder if it’s even worth it? Is it really more than just a game and does God have a unique purpose for you in the midst of it all? Hi! I’m Candace Lane, coach’s wife, mother of 3, founder of Coaches’ Wives Ministry- and I get it. After over 25 years of marriage, motherhood and ministry, I am convinced that only through Christ there is a way to thrive and not just survive the coaching life, and I am passionate about helping other coaches’ wives experience the power of the gospel, and live out their unique callings in their homes, communities and beyond. Because the pressure is off! The victory is already won! And we have the ultimate playbook of God’s Word. So whatever sport, level or location the Lord has called you to, and whatever phase of life you are in today, you can know that you were designed on purpose, for a purpose. You were created for the season. So let’s get in the game, avoid going insane and experience the joy of this journey! Let’s go!
Dear Friend, In our world today, NIL, social media and other cultural shifts have made it more challenging to be a coaching family. Most of us got into the profession with a love of the game, a love for the athletes, and a desire to help them to succeed both on and off the field. That can still happen, and it is happening! I know God is using you and your coach even if you don't always see it! But there are more business components now, which means more rules to follow, more hats to wear and more time required. However, there are also more opportunities to bring the gospel into the mission field of sports than ever before. And we can acknowledge to the Lord (sometimes in tears!), that it's really hard to keep up with it all and to keep our eyes on Jesus! But the Lord reminds us in His Word that the ultimate goal of everything is to lift Him up, and He is with us in all that we do. He made us in His image, after His likeness, for the glory of His name, and that's what we are going to be talking about in this podcast and through our Bible studies. Even our boutique items will be reflecting this theme, because it is so so important AND so foundational and so full of encouragement and hope! We were created by Him, for Him and with a purpose- and He is always with us! Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26 Love to you all,
Dear Friend, I can't believe that we are already wrapping-up Season 2! I am so thankful for our guests this season and the opportunity we've had to go through the book of Ephesians together! I will be sharing a little today about what's upcoming for Coaches' Wives Ministry. I will also be sharing some of what I've been walking through personally these past few years since we launched as a ministry, and what I've been learning with Jesus through some very difficult seasons. I pray you will be encouraged through it, and that even if you are entering into a season of transition, job loss or battles of any kind, that your heart will be strengthened by His Word to stand firm. “...in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 8:37-39 Love to you all,
Dear Friend, I'm sure your husband has coached those athletes who have the “it” factor. You can't really explain it, but they can rise above challenges and accomplish things on the field or court, on the mat or even in the weight room that go beyond normal athletic ability. As we talk about the armor of God in Ephesians 6 today, we need to remember that as Christians, we too can have that “it” factor to walk through any battle with peace, strength, confidence and wisdom. The armor of God gives us everything we need to STAND FIRM in every battle of every season in a supernatural way that goes beyond explanation. Ultimately, what we have as believers in the battle is Jesus Christ as our captain, and no one has ever had a captain like Him. I will close with a quote that I share in our episode today, and it is a great encouragement for Standing Firm in battle. So thankful for the opportunity to walk with you through the entire book of Ephesians over these past few weeks! “Trajan, the great Roman Captain, when he was on the field of battle would take his own armor off and put it on his wounded men. He would tear his own garments up and use them as bandages, but that's nothing compared to Jesus. Because Jesus Christ tore himself to deal with your wounds, and he took the spear that was meant for us into his own heart so that all of our deaths can be paid. Put on the full armor of God- because Jesus Christ made himself vulnerable for you, you can become protected in Him." -Tim Keller Love to you all,
Dear Friend, If you have been married more than a day, you've probably realized that your husband is not perfect- and neither are you! Marriage brings out the best and the worst in us and it matures us in Christ in a way that no other relationship can do. We do face unique challenges in our marriages as coaches' wives (henceforth terms like single parent and football widow), but when we remember that Jesus is the perfect husband and we are His bride the church, everything else seems to gain proper perspective. So as we look at Ephesians 5 today in this episode, we will be focusing on the love and sacrifice of Jesus- standing firm in God's love and sacrifice for us and overflowing from there. This should be the basis of all our relationships, and I'm excited to take a look at these life-changing truths with you. “.....And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:2 Love to you all,
Dear Friend, In today's episode, we are looking at standing firm in unity. We know the importance of this for teamwork, marriage, family and church, but what actually is biblical unity? The definition of unity is, “being together or at one with someone or something,” and as we will see in Ephesians 4 the goal is not just unity in and off itself, but unity around what is right and true- all for God's glory. In addition, unity is not uniformity, because we all have different gifts given by Him for His glory and the maturity of His children (Ephesians. 4:11-13). However, we are all called to put off our old selves, and put on the new because we are new creations in Christ- to NOT be unified with our old ways of life. My prayer is that through this scripture in Ephesians we will be encouraged towards true unity and maturity, reflecting His righteousness and holiness as the body of Christ. “I saw a huge crowd, too huge to count. Everyone was there—all nations and tribes, all races and languages. And they were standing, dressed in white robes and waving palm branches, standing before the Throne and the Lamb and heartily singing: Salvation to our God on his Throne!” Revelation 7:9-12 Love to you all,
Dear Friend, In today's episode, we are looking at Ephesians 3 and standing firm in God's power. I love how Paul begins the chapter reflecting on his own weaknesses and salvation story! “To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ…” Ephesians 3:8 Paul lived in such humility, calling himself the least of all the saints, yet at the same time He was constantly bragging! However, his boasting was all about the power of the Lord. This is the humble confidence we have when we know who we are in Christ and walk in His power, and I'm praying for us to be strengthened in these truths today! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, It's easy to say that we are saved by grace, but we still might be stuck in the cycle of performance in our everyday lives! In Ephesians 2, we see not only how the Lord brings us from death to life by His grace through faith for salvation, but that the grace continues on as we walk out the plans He has for us. God wants us to EXPERIENCE His grace in our daily lives, because we truly can't do it on our own! As we continue through Ephesians with chapter 2, I'm praying for us all to have joy and peace in the journey as we STAND FIRM in His grace- because the pressure is off! And we get to remember what we were saved from and what we were saved for! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, We may not always feel "blessed" to be coaches' wives, because it's not easy and we do face many unique challenges! However, God wants us to see beyond the struggles and to not only KNOW our blessings, but to EXPERIENCE them in the midst of all the craziness and instability of the coaching lifestyle. Today we are kicking off our study STANDING FIRM, going through the book of Ephesians over the next several weeks. Ephesians is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Ephesus, and I love this letter because Paul reminds me of a coach. Just like our husbands spend countless hours instructing athletes, encouraging them to have correct stances and mentalities and strengthening them along the way in every way, Paul is going to coach us through the truth of the gospel over and over again until we are standing firm and living it out by the power of God. Then he will remind us over and over again of these truths as we continue to saturate ourselves in the Word, be part of the team- the church, and work it out together until we meet Jesus face-to-face in heaven... and Jesus is the ULTIMATE COACH! This episode focuses on standing firm in the blessings we have in Christ, and as we will see in Ephesians 1, we have safety, security and so much more! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, Today is the second part of a conversation with Kira Cardwell- mom, coach's wife and life coach. I encourage you to go back and listen to part one of our conversation from last week if you haven't already! In this episode, we are continuing the theme of living from pain to purpose and connection and we'll be talking about grief and transition in the coaching journey. I know that this episode will be an encouragement to you! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, Today's episode is the first part of a conversation with Kira Caldwell. She and her husband have 3 kids, he currently coaches the offensive line at the University of Cincinnati, and she herself is a life coach. So in this episode, we will hear more of her story as a coach's wife, how pain led to living out her purpose and the key word in the middle of it all is CONNECTION. So get ready to be challenged and encouraged with some Biblical principles and practical tools! Please know that whatever loneliness or isolation you might be experiencing right now, we were created for connection with the Lord and with others, and I know that this episode will be an encouragement to you! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, In today's episode, we get to have a conversation with Melinda Wolford, a seasoned football coach's wife whose husband currently coaches at the University of Kentucky. However, her childhood began on the mission field in Africa, and she has experienced many painful challenges throughout her lifetime. Yet in the midst of it all, the Lord has given her clear eyes and a full heart, and the pain has led to walking out the purpose God has for her, together with her family. I can't wait for you to meet Melinda today, and I know you will be encouraged by her story, her perspective and her heart! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, We are in the final week of our three week mini-series: Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose. Although we know that the Bible says we have victory in Christ, how can we define what that “winning” looks like daily? And what do we do when we suffer losses in this life? We won't have all the answers until heaven, but starting each day with the Lord and His Word is a WIN that we can experience daily. It is where we get our clear-eyes perspective and full-hearts of hope. I'm excited to share this episode with you, as we grow together in these truths! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, We are in the second week of our three week mini-series! "Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose." When coaches speak to their athletes in those pre-game moments, every word counts, so I love that we are talking about these three simple phrases. "Clear eyes" is the reminder to not get distracted, to pay attention and to stay focused. "Full Hearts" is the reminder to play with heart and passion, to be committed to the team and to excellence, and to be motivated to play with that I WILL NOT GIVE UP attitude! When the pressure is on, both in sports and in life, we need Clear Eyes of Faith and a Full Heart of Hope! We need to grow in that certain hope, spending time with the Lord and understanding His promises and His faithfulness. I'm excited to grow in this area with you as we look again at 2 Corinthians 4! Love to you all,
Dear Friend, If you've ever seen the series "Friday Night Lights", you recognize this mantra: Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose. Before every football game, Coach Taylor's locker room speech finishes with these three phrases. These principles are actually found in 2 Corinthians 4, so for the next 3 weeks we are going to focus on this one chapter of Scripture and have our own locker room conversations! This week as we kick off Season 2 of the podcast, we are going to talk about having clear eyes and approaching our lives as coaching families with God's perspective. No matter how we feel or what the scoreboard says, I pray that this episode will encourage you to remember that God is faithful and that He is always at work for our good and His glory. Love to you all,
Dear Friend, Summer is here and I hope you are enjoying your family! This episode is a wrap-up, and hopefully an encouragement to take all the things we've been talking about into your home as the Lord continues to work in our hearts! I know that as coaching families, time together can be limited, so I'm praying that you will be able to make the most of every moment over the next few weeks! We'll be back for Season 2 in the Fall! Dear Friend, Loving others isn't always easy! Our neighbors can be anyone the Lord puts into our lives- parents in the stands, another coach's wife on staff, an athlete in need, family members OR literally the people in the house next door to yours! And as a coaching family you might encounter many different neighbors throughout the years as you move from place to place, but no matter who it is, we are called to love others with God's love. And that's not something we can do on our own. So if you are struggling to love others, or even struggling to feel love-able yourself, look to Jesus and remember the cross. Understanding our identity in the gospel and experiencing God's love personally is key to loving others! I hope you can join in today as we look at Scripture together, and you won't want to miss the message of encouragement from our CWM Community Care Leader, Angel Burdette! Dear Friend, Just as we experience physical weariness, our souls can be weary as well, and Jesus tells us to come to Him to find rest. (Matthew 11:28-30) Our bodies need food and water, and our souls need the nourishment of the Word. Taking our needs to the Lord and finding our fulfillment in Him is essential to loving Him with all that we are! This episode is an honest conversation with Cindy Wild, and she shares personal stories of life as a coach's wife and what she has learned about loving God with all her soul by abiding in His Word. I know you will be blessed! Love to you all, Candace Cindy Wild is passionate about the Word of God. She has been serving as a Coaches' Wives Ministry mentor since 2019, helping women in our community learn to spend time daily with Jesus. She was a coach's wife for 42 years before her husband Danny passed in 2021, and she has 5 adult children and a busy life with her 15 grandkids. 3 WAYS TO GET IN THE GAME for CWM RESOURCES: #1 FAN CLUB (Free Membership) Join our free Fan Club! Dear Friend, When life is busy, we don't always pay attention to what's going on inside of our hearts. We might feel like we're just functioning on auto-pilot, but the truth is, our hearts are probably leading the way. The word "heart" occurs over 800 times in Scripture, and many of those verses show us how plans, decisions, actions, words and thoughts all flow out of the heart, so it's not surprising that we are commanded to love God with all of it! The Lord calls us to treasure Him supremely, but it's easy for our "loves" to get out of order! So in this short episode, we are taking a moment to do a heart check as we continue our series on loving God with all that we are. Love to you all! Dear Friend, If you are weary and exhausted, please know that there is hope! Our God is not tired in the least, and He shows us through His Word how to love Him with all our strength by His strength. He wouldn't tell us to do something and then not give us a way to do it! This episode is an honest, unedited conversation with Darlene Johnson, and it's full of wisdom, practical tools to avoid burn-out, and her testimony of drawing closer to God through the “gift of illness.” I know you will be blessed! Dear Friend, Although sometimes God does ask us to trust and obey without explanation, Mark 12:29-31 is not one of those times! Jesus clearly and simply explains the greatest commandment He has for us, and that is to love God and to love others- technically two commands that cannot be separated! Jesus is also specific in His explanation. He doesn't just say to love God, but to love Him specifically with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. In the upcoming episodes, we are going to look at what it all means and how to love God with all that we are in these four areas! We are starting this series with a conversation about mental health- what it is, why it's important for our relationship with God, how we can love God with our minds and how we can bring the gospel into our own brokenness and into the lives of those who are hurting around us. I'm so excited for you to hear from our special guest today, and I'm looking forward to what God will do over the next few weeks! Dear Friend, We know that the coaching lifestyle often includes a rhythm of closing chapters (and closing on homes!), completing contracts, opening next doors and embracing new people. We are all continuously finishing seasons as we journey through this life, and I don't know of anyone who desires to travel with emotional baggage or a weight of unfinished business! Through Christ, we can finish each leg of the journey well, move into the next place or phase with free and open hearts, and avoid collecting bitterness at each new stop. Through Christ, we don't have to live under the shadow of regret when we are walking in light of the cross! His victory cry that “It is finished,” reminds us that we have His power and that His grace is sufficient for all our weaknesses, especially when we don't see how we will make it to the finish line. We can finish well and finish strong in His strength, whatever He calls us to do in our lifetimes. Today we are going to look at 6 areas of our lives where we have opportunities to finish well! Hi Friend! What comes to mind when you think of a sports fanatic? Someone who knows every detail of every play and player of their favorite team? Or someone who will travel whatever distance so they don't ever have to miss a game? Knowledge, passion and commitment are definitely characteristics of a serious sports fan, and we find these three things in Psalm 145. David not only gives us a template for going all out in praying our praise, but we can be encouraged to worship in a way that overflows into our families and future generations! In this episode, we are wrapping up our limited series with this legacy psalm. One of the best things we can do for our families is to keep praying and praising through whatever circumstances we are facing. My prayer is that this series has encouraged and equipped you to do just that. Love to you all, Candace LOOKING FOR COMMUNITY? Have you ever felt alone? Loneliness is a struggle for many coaches' wives and for our culture in general. We can be surrounded by people, yet still experience a sense of isolation and detachment. We can go through seasons of transitions where we are handling a lot of family things on our own. However, when we remember that we are seen, known and loved by our Creator, it changes our perspective and encourages us on the journey! He is with us as we tackle the logistics of a move. He is with us when we are feeling overwhelmed and lonely. He is with us when we are struggling with challenging circumstances. He is all-knowing, all-powerful and ever-present, and as we pray through Psalm 139, we can take these lonely feelings to the God who will never leave us or forsake us. Have you ever been through a long, drawn-out transition? A period of waiting when you don't know if life is going to turn out like you thought it would? From the time David was anointed to be the future king, until the time he was actually promoted to this position, there was a period of about 15 years. Saul's jealousy kept David running for his life and hiding in the wilderness during part of that time, however, the Lord used the wilderness season to prepare David for his future role. Wilderness life is not a vacation for most people, but it does provide some "quiet" time to reflect, soul search and think through priorities. In Psalm 63, we get a glimpse into David's experience, and as we pray through these verses, we get to do some soul searching of our own from the comfort of home! Hey Friends! Have you ever felt like you are trying to hold it all together while riding an out-of-control roller coaster? The highs and lows of life can't be avoided, but there are some ways we can keep from getting nauseous and embrace the journey! Hey Friend! Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the challenges that come with being a coaching family? Have you ever experienced loneliness or exhaustion, juggling all the family things while feeling like a single parent? Do you sometimes wonder if it's even worth it? Is it really more than just a game and does God have a unique purpose for you in the midst of it all? Hi! I'm Candace Lane, coach's wife, mother of 3, founder of Coaches' Wives Ministry- and I get it. After over 25 years of marriage, motherhood and ministry, I am convinced that only through Christ there is a way to thrive and not just survive the coaching life, and I am passionate about helping other coaches' wives experience the power of the gospel, and live out their unique callings in their homes, communities and beyond. Because the pressure is off! The victory is already won! And we have the ultimate playbook of God's Word. So whatever sport, level or location the Lord has called you to, and whatever phase of life you are in today, you can know that you were designed on purpose, for a purpose. You were created for the season. So let's get in the game, avoid going insane and experience the joy of this journey! Let's go!
