A Power Four conference football coach is out of a job after being investigated for mistreating staffers. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.
Tuesday morning, Stanford football GM Andrew Luck released the following statement:"Since beginning my role as General Manager, I have been thoroughly assessing the entire Stanford football program. It has been clear that certain aspects of the program need change. Additionally, in recent days, there has been significant attention to Stanford investigations in previous years related to Coach Taylor. After continued consideration it is evident to me that our program needs a reset. In consultation with university leadership, I no longer believe that Coach Taylor is the right coach to lead our football program. Coach Taylor has been informed today and the change is effective immediately."Y-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. I've become a better coach because I have the opportunity to work with these pro women and I'm excited to continue to get better, learn from them, and make sure that they're at the center of everything that I do. My guest for today's episode is Diljeet Taylor. We had her on the show last fall after she won the NCAA Cross Country Championships with her BYU women. For those of you who aren't familiar, she's one of the most transformative coaches in the sport. She's built BYU's women's cross country program and distance program into a national powerhouse, coaching NCAA champions, Olympians, and creating one of the strongest cultures in collegiate running. Now she's stepping into an even bigger role, leading a professional training group with Nike while continuing to coach at BYU. Nike has announced Swoosh TC for Oregon, Utah, and Arizona. It's being described by the brand as a network of elite athletes, coaches, and innovators working together to push the boundaries of performance and progress. Coach Taylor will oversee the Utah division, Jerry Schumacher will head Oregon along with Shalane Flanagan, and Mike Smith will lead the club in Arizona beginning in July 2025 in partnership from Rachel Smith. In this conversation, we make sense of what all of that means. We get into the behind-the-scenes details of her new role, how she's balancing coaching, both collegiate and professional athletes, and what it takes to develop elite runners at the highest level. We also touch on the mindset of success, the importance of culture, and the transition from NCAA to professional racing. In this powerful episode of the Especially for Athletes Podcast, we dive into the core principle of resilience, with insights from national champion coach Diljeet Taylor. As the head coach of BYU’s cross-country teams, Coach Taylor recently led the women’s team to a National Championship. She shares her philosophy on resilience, explaining that true growth happens when athletes are willing to embrace the “dark place”—the discomfort and pain that comes with pushing beyond their limits. In this episode, we reflect on her message that resilience requires a decision to face hardship before it even comes. It’s about knowing that discomfort is inevitable in the pursuit of excellence, and instead of running from it, we must embrace it and keep moving forward. Coach Taylor’s insights not only apply to cross-country but to all sports and life challenges. Key Discussion Points: The concept of the “dark place” in sports and how to prepare for it mentally before facing challenges. The importance of embracing discomfort and how it leads to growth and success. How resilience can be built by committing to the process, even when it’s tough. Real-life examples of how athletes can push through adversity, whether in sports or in life. The role of having a clear why to motivate you through the tough times. Whether you’re an athlete facing tough competition or someone working toward personal growth, this episode will inspire you to push through challenges, keep your focus, and embrace the discomfort that leads to resilience and long-term success. “The pieces were there – but getting them to mesh and come together, we had to embrace the imperfect. We had to have these women realize that if you're scared of something, the only way to get over that fear is to conquer it. That was what this championship was for a lot of the women. My guest for today's episode is Diljeet Taylor, Head Coach of BYU's women's cross country and track team. She's one of the most inspiring leaders in the sport. Coach Taylor just wrapped up a storybook season by guiding BYU to the 2024 NCAA Cross Country women's team title. It's their second national championship under her leadership and the program's sixth overall. This victory wasn't just about redemption. It was about resilience one year after a devastating 14th place finish at NCAAs – the lowest moment of her coaching career. Coach Taylor and her team embraced the imperfect, leaned into their depth, and executed when it mattered most. From butterfly mantras to pajama parties to brilliant race strategies, Coach Taylor proved that with belief and preparation, anything is possible. In today's conversation, we talked about BYU's incredible turnaround, her approach to coaching All-Americans and building a winning culture, and why this year was a testament to her mantra, ‘Embrace the imperfect.' This episode showcases the frustrations of Cincinnati Sports Fans! The Bengals lose for the 3rd time this year; to make matters worse it was a rookie qb that looked like a 5th year veteran. Coach Taylor and Staff need to right the ship quickly or it will be a lost season for the team. The guys then displayed shock to the news that the Reds fired manager David Bell with 5 games left in the season. None of the host could believe the Reds would eat money left on the contract. Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengal's major offensive improvements in their week 2 thriller against the Kansas City Chiefs. Coach Pitcher and Coach Taylor had an amazing game plan against the Chiefs in Week 2, and a big weapon in that game plan was the usage of the Bengal's tight ends. Burrow had a career day throwing to his tight ends, who totaled 14 receptions for 151 yards. Erick All and Mike Gesicki were the big standouts that will have a pivotal role going forward in the 2024 season. Even though the Bengals lost a thriller vs the defending Super Bowl champions it was great to see the offense back in rhythm after a rough first game against the Patriots. The Bengals will look to continue their success against the Washington Commanders on MNF in Week 3. We want to thank Coach Pitcher for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. Created For The Season: The Coaches’ Wives Ministry Podcast
Dear Friend, If you've ever seen the series "Friday Night Lights", you recognize this mantra: Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose. Before every football game, Coach Taylor's locker room speech finishes with these three phrases. These principles are actually found in 2 Corinthians 4, so for the next 3 weeks we are going to focus on this one chapter of Scripture and have our own locker room conversations! This week as we kick off Season 2 of the podcast, we are going to talk about having clear eyes and approaching our lives as coaching families with God's perspective. No matter how we feel or what the scoreboard says, I pray that this episode will encourage you to remember that God is faithful and that He is always at work for our good and His glory. Love to you all,

In this episode, Alex reacts to Kamala Harris choosing Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. The “Coach Taylor” of gubernatorial politics is both kind, impressive, caring for the needy, and cool. This is a guy you would drink some beers with. However, Alex worries that he may be labeled as too progressive. This argument may not be accurate, but the right will run with it.

“The expectation was we want to chase this and put her on the line in a way to be able to compete. Physically, I think things went really smooth. This is probably the best build she's had in the eight years I've coached her. Mentally, it probably wasn't the best build. There were some battles that she faced and the race never tells the whole story. Being someone that saw what she overcame to make this team is what I think is going to make this one really special.” Newly minted Olympian Courtney Wayment and Coach Diljeet Taylor join us live in Eugene after Courtney finished runner-up in the U.S. Olympic Trials steeplechase. Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss Joe Burrow's return to practice and the 2024 Bengals draft class. Joe broke the Cincinnati internet when clips of him at practice went viral and he looks to be in really good shape after an injury-ridden 2023 season. Coach Taylor believes Joe's rehab is going great and can't wait to have a 100% healthy Joe Burrow for the 2024 season. Lap and Zac also analyze the Bengals 10 2024 draft picks, and Zac goes into great detail on what he thinks makes each of them special. As we are getting used to our brand-new studio we suffered some audio issues with Lap's audio, that's why his voice sounds different in this video. We have addressed the problem and future interviews won't have this issue! We want to thank Coach Zac Taylor for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. In this week's episode we sit down with not only one of the boys but also the King, Derrick Henry. Derrick and the Titans just finished up their season and there are a lot of question marks surrounding Derrick's future with the team. So where else would he want to talk about his future than with the boys. Derrick and the guys first get into a lot of reminiscing from the last couple years on the team including times from Will was on the team. They talk about their run's that they had in 2019 and 2020. The game they had in Baltimore and how wild the atmosphere was, the game they had in Kansas City where Mahomes had that crazy run going into halftime. Some of the stories that the guys tell really just give you that vibe of a couple of old guys just reflecting on the good ole days. Following the reflection period, Will and Taylor ask him the question that everybody wants to know, what does the future look like for Derrick Henry? Derrick doesn't necessarily have an answer for that question. The biggest thing he was harping on was that he wants to win a Super Bowl and he isn't sure if that's a possibility with Tennessee. Derrick also gives us a glimpse into the crazy time period when everyone thought he was going to get traded. Overall, it's a great convo with a lot of reflection on some good times as well as looking to the times ahead.
