The mission of Crankset Group and 3to5 Clubs has always been to Live Well By Doing Good. We do this by helping small business owners get off the treadmill to build a mature business that funds their ideal lifestyle. The GOTT podcast for Business Leaders hosts the stories of the everyday champions who are on this journey. They are those leaders who help to transform their companies that in turn transform the world.
What is your why? And how would you articulate it in a way that is succinct and paints a picture? Your Big Why should drive everything you do in your life and in your business. All of our beliefs, values and principles really are what create the culture we live in. And creating the culture we live in, is important to each one of us, right? Think about your culture right now. Think about the culture you've created in your company. Think about the culture in your family. Think about the culture, maybe in charity work that you're a part of. Are you living out what you believe? Are you able to live? Are you free to live out what you believe? If you're not, and you're in charge, you can change it. Or if you're responsible for something, you can change it. If you're in an organization, you can influence it. And if you can't, then maybe it's time for you to look at what culture is going to help you live out what you believe, which is again why it's so important. Listen in to hear part 1 of Big Why from Sandy Corrigan!
Chuck Blakeman is back with us for part 7 of our new series covering different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). Today we are talking about what does it mean to have a mature business? One of the fundamental mistakes we make is to measure our business against itself instead of what it provides to us as business owners. A business is mature if: 1. The business owner is no longer the only producer. They may produce, but it's a choice. and 2. The business makes money when the owner is somewhere else. Meaning, the business is producing time and money. A mature business always has two attributes: time and money.
Chuck Blakeman is back with us for part 6 of our new series covering different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). Today we are going more in depth about dual tracking. The Tyranny of the Urgent and the Priority of the Important both have to be dual tracked if you're ever going to get off of the treadmill. Dual Tracking says, "how do I use one activity to make money today, while I'm also using that activity to set me up to have a business that makes money down the road?"
Chuck Blakeman is back with us for part 5 of our new series covering different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). Today we are going more in depth about the tyranny of the urgent and the priority of the important. This is what we see as the biggest reason people don't get involved or don't take time out to really focus on what needs to happen. We are talking with Chuck today about the reasons why.
Chuck Blakeman is back with us for part 4 of our new series covering different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). Today we are talking about being ambitiously lazy by dual tracking. If you're an income producer, you are working hard - you're simply ambitious. But if you are a business owner and you're building a business that makes money instead of you trying to make money, then you're going to be ambitiously lazy. What we mean by that is you work really hard upfront, because you intend to not work so hard going forward; to build a business that will free you to do something else when you want to, even if it's starting another business. Listen in for more from Chuck!
Chuck Blakeman is back with us for part 3 of our new series covering different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). Today we are talking about two opposing realities of business owners; the tyranny of the urgent and the priority of the important. Do you let the tyranny of the urgent take over, or do you carve out time for the priority of the important?
Chuck Blakeman is back with us for part 2 of our new series covering different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). "Do I see the world as an income producer or as a business owner do I see my business growing up? Do I expect it? Or do I just hope it will happen? Change your intention and watch what happens." Listen in for more from Chuck in part 2 of this series!
We are starting a new series here on the Get Off the Treadmill Podcast for Business Leaders where for the next several weeks we have the pleasure of hearing from Chuck Blakeman about different elements and tools from his first book, Making Money Is Killing Your Business (MMIKYB). MMIKYB was written to bring clarity and hope so you can take the risks to move to a stage 5 or 6 of business ownership and get off of the treadmill. It has fundamentals of business in ways you may have not seen before, which we have heard from hundreds of people that it has not only changed their business, but their life, too. Welcome, Chuck!

Last episode we talked about freedom mapping. Today, we want to quickly touch base on client facing process maps. Showing a client from the start where they fit into the picture of a process can make all the difference when working together. We want to show the client the role that they play alongside us, so that both of us working together can ensure a really great outcome. It helps the client see themselves in the picture of the process and creates a clear direction of what is expected from both parties while working together.
During the month of April in our 3to5 clubs, we're talking about freedom mapping, which we used to call this process mapping. This tool actually helps us as business owners get off the treadmill so we can have more freedom and choice. Freedom mapping consists of several elements: self management, role clarity, productivity, commitment, letters, training, incentives, metrics, and process clarity. Freedom mapping helps look at what is the highest and best use of our time, and helps every member on the team, or in the company, ask that same question. In fact, we want to be able to create participation age organizations where the people that are in our businesses really consider themselves as stakeholders, that they really have ownership. They're self managed, so they can make decisions. Please be our guest in April for 3to5 Club while we cover the important topic of Freedom Mapping!
When you think about your business and your life, what things are you just wandering around in velleity? And what things are you really conating about? Velleity is a wish or inclination not strong enough to lead to action. Conation is a committed movement in a purposeful direction. Remember, you get what you intend, not what you hope for! Live in conation, not in velleity.
The best relationships will happen when we have shared values. Ask yourself and ask your team- what are our values? What is important to us? What are our beliefs and how do we carry these out? These are essential for a business owner to determine and to live by.
Today we are talking about two of the most powerful tools in 3to5 Club- Lumberjack's and Effective One2Ones. The smartest business owners think about who are the people that already have the clients I am looking for? There may be business owners within the same industry as you, but may do business slightly different. That could be the start of great potential referral partners, or what we call, Lumberjacks. Three things we want you to look at and answer for yourself this year to find your lumberjacks: 1. Who are the people already referring business to you? 2. Who are the top referring people in your database? 3. What would you do strategically to set up a plan on your 2-page strategic plan to deepen that relationship? That then will put us in to how to build those relationships, and have effective one2ones. Go in with an intention, and serve not sell. Think about this acronym, FORD, when you're having a one2one. F- Family; ask about their family O- Occupation; ask how the job is going R- Recreation; ask what are the things they are interested in D- Dreams; ask what are their dreams and goals This will allow you to deepen those relationships and get more from them. These are two staples we talk about frequently in 3to5 Club, and can help you and your business too.

The most powerful, yet least asked, question in business and in life is "Why?" Our host Sandy shares a short story with us today about the journey her and her husband, Thom, took to finding their big why in life and in business. What are you doing to tell people what your why is? You never know what doors it may open for you!
As we wrap up 2020, it's a good idea to start thinking about your 2021 strategic plan if you haven't done so already. A 2-page strategic plan is a living document that you'll tweak all year; not a business plan that doesn't get touched. Here are the main steps for creating yours! 1. Start with your Values. Are we living out these values? Keep them first and foremost. 2. Define your Vision and Mission. Your vision should be short and sweet, but what you live your life by. Your mission is for the client. What will you do to support them and push them forward? 3. Define your Big Rock. What's the one thing to accomplish during this next year? 4. Define strategies and objectives both indirect and direct to get you to that goal. 5. Build your 12 month objectives, 3 month objectives, and 1 month objectives. You will visit these often so they can/will always be changing. And lastly, something that is always important in defining is your 2.1. What's the one thing I can do in the next two weeks that will move me closer to moving my business towards that one big rock? This will help you stay on track, focused, and accountable for checking off your goals and objectives!
We get what we intend, not what we hope for. Set an intention to serve, not sell and start giving away your secrets! Start teaching people and watch your relationships flourish. We introduce the idea to you of Tier III Thinking- What is really in the best interest of others? Do I have something that I can really offer them that's in their best interest? Thinking about all these things is so important as you go into conversation with others.

We have a very interesting guest with us today, Seth Tanis with Sasquatch Turds! You definitely don't want to miss this episode, and I'm sure many will be looking more into Sasquatch Turds after this! Seth Tanis worked in the ski/bike industry for 10 years and has worked in the PV industry since 2010. For 7 years, as a self-employed independent contractor, Seth has worked with several companies performing installs around the front range specializing in off-grid and grid-tie battery back-up systems. From 2017-2020, Seth worked at a solar installation company developing the residential storage program. While working in the renewable energy industry, Seth began looking for other ways to create positive environmental impacts with fewer barriers to entry and were more inclusive to a larger group of people. In 2016 Seth started up Sasquatch Turds clay seed bombs as gifts for friends and family. Seeing the warm welcome, the seed bombs became thank you gifts to his solar customers. Getting into renewable energy to participate in change, solar answers a portion of the energy challenges we face, but it's not going to solve other environmental issues. We are seeing pollinators disappearing, drought and wild fires sterilizing the landscapes, top soil is degrading and rivers are becoming full of sediment. Sasquatch Turds provides a low tech, low cost option where anyone can participate on any level.
Today we are joined by Robert Tait, a very special friend of mine! We are talking about so many powerful things today; mission, vision and values, 3to5 Club, Community, Leadership and more. You won't want to miss it! Rob Tait is one of those rare natives in Colorado. He was born in Aurora Colorado, graduated from Ponderosa High School, did his undergraduate degree at UNC and then went off to Regis University. Rob currently lives in beautiful Wash Park and is hunting for the best coffee in Denver. So if you've got some great coffee, you can contact Rob. Rob's been in the real estate industry since 2009. During his career in real estate, Rob has led, taught, coached and mentored thousands of real estate professionals and their businesses. Rob started out as a partner in the KW Highlands Ranch office until he became the operating partner of Keller Williams real estate. While operating partner of that office, Rob grew the businesses of the agents in the office itself with the results of four times profit and profit share under three years. Then Rob launched the Keller Williams Northern Colorado office with two top agents and real estate agent team. Within four years, KW Northern Colorado, grew to the top five offices in northern Colorado. Currently, Rob Tait is the founder of Downing Street Brokers, a premier real estate team serving Denver's neighborhoods with the Keller Williams Executives Realty office. And in Rob's free time when he's not working, he enjoys everything Denver has to offer. Typically, you can find Rob at a summer festival (when we can do that), racing around wash park on his bike, or trying out the new hot spots. Rob is also a new facilitator with 3to5 Clubs in the Crankset Group helping other small business owners grow to exponential profit, and meaning in what they do.
