Noob Spearo Podcast | Spearfishing Talk with Shrek and Turbo
Host Shrek opens the Noob Spearo podcast with a listener voice message from Matt sharing ear-care tips for divers (coconut oil drops before diving and periodic rinses with a 50/50 vinegar and alcohol mix). The episode then jumps into a last-day, post-trip recap of the Whitsundays Sail & Spear Trip, with Sam the Waterman explaining the context: sailing through the Whitsunday Islands to the outer Great Barrier Reef, hundreds of fish landed across the trip, multiple 20kg+ GTs caught on rod and line between spearfishing sessions, and notable catches like Red Throat and Spangled Emperor on luncheon meat, alongside strong crew bonding. In a roundtable-style debrief, guests and instructors share highlights, misses, and "frother" shoutouts: exhaustion from consecutive days of diving, stories of drift dives and tidal creek/lagoon systems, Spanish mackerel attempts using throw flashers and diver formations, bull sharks around the boat, and lessons on relaxing during deep dives (relax jaw, hands, feet; free-float the top 10m). Several divers celebrate first-time or milestone catches including yellow lip emperor, coral trout, Red Throat Emperor, Red Emperor, parrotfish, and multiple GTs landed early in the morning. The group emphasizes buddy diving, safety, instruction quality (notably Tim), and the unique Great Barrier Reef scenery. The episode closes with details on how to join future Sail & Spear charters via spearfishingcourses.com.au, plus a push to watch the video version on YouTube/Spotify and check out the revamped Noob Spearo YouTube channel with help from Sam the Waterman. IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODFEST AND ARTS MARKET This is a one - day music festival and arts market that will take place on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at The Lost Druid Brewery in Avondale Estates, GA, 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta. There are four bands performing at the festival. I am performing one show solo and one show with May Will Bloom, where my daughter takes the lead. Kinnfolk will join us as well as I mentioned last week. But the final band performing at the festival is a 3 - piece version of The Muckers, our local Celtic punk band. That will complete our lineup. Follow our event page on Facebook for more details. Or Follow us for Free on our Patreon page. Now my next goal is to raise $2500 so that all of the bands are paid a decent wage and to promote our first - ever Celtic festival. To that end, I added three new rewards for Kickstarter. Each is a chance to sponsor individual bands at the festival. When you do, you'll get one of the first album pins from each of these amazing Celtic bands. That's because we are highlighting album pins at the festival as well, as another means to promote the music of bands. Our album pins are wooden lapel pins themed to a particular album released by a band. The buyer gets a digital download of the album, then they can wear their album! There's just 8 days left on this Kickstarter. So please make a pledge to support Celtic culture through music. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! Because of you, this podcast exists. Because of your generosity, we release new episodes almost every week. You make that possible. Truly. Your support does more than pay the bills. It keeps Celtic music moving forward. Bill Pratt, champion swimmer, outrigger canoe paddler, and Cultural Advisor with the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation along with The Waterman director Isaac Halasima discuss Duke's enduring influence, the true meaning of aloha, and what it means to honor a cultural icon with respect and intention. Daniel Waterman, 22, died earlier this month after suffering injuries in a car crash in Flagler County, Florida last February. Florida Highway Patrol trooper say Waterman's girlfriend, Leigha Mumby, 24, became angry with Daniel after seeing that another woman had texted him and drove her SUV into a tree. Troopers said Daniel awoke from a coma and told them that Leigha intentionally caused the crash. Now Leigha Mumby faces charges for Daniel's death. Who is the greatest waterman? Few, if any, truly do as many disciplines of “watersports” as well as Noah does them. Wakeboarding, wake surfing, foiling (wake and ocean), surfing, kiting, and even diving and fishing, Noah seems to know his way around them all. Gingers vs. the sun, Florida vs. Hawaii, leaving Hyperlite, SI kid of the year, longest hold under, the future of foiling, wake surfing wackness, and avoiding burnout. Whether he's talking training, competition mindset, or the feeling of complete freedom that comes from harnessing wind and water as one — Guy's story is all about flow, focus, and living a life built around the ocean. When he's not competing or coaching, you'll find him exploring new breaks, fine-tuning foil setups, and chasing that perfect connection between power, glide, and silence. It was April 1st, 1981, when Johnny Waterman, a 29 year old brilliant climber and haunted soul, set out from the Mountain House deep in the Ruth Glacier of Denali National Park. His goal was the East Buttress of Denali, approached via the northwest fork of the Ruth - an audacious, almost impossible route in the winter. He carried remarkably little: a sled, snowshoes, not much food, and wands to mark his route. No tent, no sleeping bag. He told a fellow climber he believed he could manage with minimal gear. He was last seen somewhere around 11,000 feet - cutting a straight line through a labyrinth of crevasses and snow chutes. Then…. He vanished. Listen as we dive into Alaska, the case of Johnny Waterman, and how to stay alive on vacation. Do you have a story to share? FedRAMP 20x is redefining how federal cloud services get authorized —making them faster, smarter and more secure. Earlier this year GSA released the 20x pilot in an effort to increase the efficiency of authorizations and enhance security. Pete Waterman, FedRAMP director at the General Services Administration, unpacks how the program is streamlining approvals, enhancing continuous monitoring and leveraging automation to detect and resolve security risks in real time. Waterman explains how FedRAMP 20x is helping agencies and providers build services that make sense from the start, leading to stronger security and better mission outcomes.
What do we really know about Elizabeth Boleyn, Countess of Wiltshire and mother of Anne Boleyn? Until now, she's been little more than a shadow in history — remembered only as the wife of Thomas Boleyn and the mother of Anne, Mary, and George. But in a groundbreaking new biography, historian Sophie Bacchus-Waterman uncovers Elizabeth's real story: her career at court, her influence, and her role in one of Tudor England's most ambitious families. In this exclusive interview, I talk with Sophie about: - Why Elizabeth has been so overlooked in Tudor history - The surprising discoveries made during her research - How Elizabeth shaped the rise of the Boleyns - Whether she's been unfairly judged in fiction and history - And what this biography reveals about Anne Boleyn's world. Sophie's new book: Elizabeth Boleyn: The Life of the Queen's Mother is the very first biography of this fascinating woman, and it shines a long-overdue light on her life and legacy.
