The In the Fields podcast is a truly remarkable production that serves as a reinforcement of community values and embraces everyone with open arms. As a newcomer to this community, I want to express my gratitude for the authenticity that shines through both in the words and actions of the hosts. This podcast has quickly become a favorite for me, as it features great guests and thought-provoking discussions that enrich my understanding of faith and spirituality.
One of the best aspects of The In the Fields podcast is the genuine sense of community it fosters. The hosts create an inclusive environment where listeners from different backgrounds and denominations can come together to engage in meaningful conversations. This emphasis on diversity and dialogue allows for a broad range of perspectives to be explored, resulting in thought-provoking episodes that leave a lasting impact.
In addition, the guests featured on this podcast are exceptional. Each episode brings in individuals who offer unique insights and experiences, further enhancing the richness of the discussions. It is evident that careful consideration is put into selecting guests who can provide valuable contributions to topics related to faith, spirituality, and community engagement.
Furthermore, I appreciate how The In the Fields podcast values honesty. The hosts openly share their own journeys and struggles, making their words relatable and authentic. This sincerity creates a welcoming atmosphere where listeners feel comfortable joining in on the conversation without fear or judgment.
While The In the Fields podcast excels in many areas, there are always areas for improvement. One aspect that could be enhanced is providing more diverse perspectives within each episode. While guest diversity is commendable, ensuring multiple viewpoints are represented during discussions would add even greater depth to the conversations.
In conclusion, The In the Fields podcast is a true gem within the realm of spiritual podcasts. It combines elements of community-building, thought-provoking discussions, exceptional guests, and honest storytelling to create an immersive experience for listeners like myself. I am truly grateful for this endeavor and eagerly look forward to future episodes that will undoubtedly continue to inspire and enrich my spiritual journey.

From the haze of “oh gracious what is happening” Mitch and Caitlyn bring you a discussion on “What is happening with Advent?” They reflect on what Advent is, what is meaningful in the season for them, how to live faithfully in the church calendar to unwrap all the treasures of our seasons. And then Mitch stakes a hard claim on which chocolate calendars are correct.
This week the entire ministry team - Mitch, Caitlyn, Dianna, and Alex - come together to share stories of the youth pilgrimage to Ecuador this summer! They discuss why pilgrimage is a cornerstone of our youth's faith formation, the ecotheology and creation care the youth explored through the jungle, and how Dianna earned the nickname “Princess.”
Oliver Hartner - environmental activist, writer, and veteran - preaches from his soul, telling personal stories of growing up in the prejudices of the deep South, even in the church, but how that same church and the Eucharist gradually transformed him. He explains his understanding of Jesus's teaching about his body and blood, emphasizing the sacrament's importance in recognizing God's presence in all creation, combating evil, and awakening love within us. Ultimately, Oliver bids us to see God's presence everywhere and rely on the Eucharist as spiritual nourishment in our battles against the evils we face.
Christi Mahon joins our lay preaching series this week. Her sermon braids together stories of her love of bread throughout her life but also its complicated position within diet culture, even though it has been the sustaining lifeforce since the ancient generations. We often substitue a million other things in search of what gives us life, but in Jesus we find all that is essential, first, and sustaining. This sermon will nourish your soul.
Angela Adams, middle school science teacher extraordinaire, kicks off our lay preaching series! Angela preaches on the “Bread of Life” sermon from John's Gospel, in this season of “Breadtide.” Come for a soulful description of Jesus' complex but deeply fulfilling love. Stay for Aunt Lakey and Mr. Magoo the feral tomcat.
Caitlyn and Mitch are joined by St. Martin's Communications Director Jim Morgan, and continue their exploration of loneliness, community, and the importance of imperfection in building meaningful relationships. Their wide-ranging discussion touches on technology, social media culture, and bluegrass music!
