Claire Pedrick was speaking at the ICF Conference in 2019 when a publisher approached her and said: “Have you got a book in you?”That book is Simplifying Coaching, and in it Claire offers a rallying cry for filtering out the noise of the coaching industry and honing in on the very human essence of transformative conversations. In this episode of The Coach's Journey Podcast, Claire traces the steps that led her into a burgeoning coaching landscape around the turn of the century and reflects on the precious lessons learned from moments that sometimes felt like missteps. She shines a light on the “guru-ing” and “pedestal-ing” that can lead to problematic power dynamics in coaching, and shares the foundational values such as equity and fairness that underpin the success of 3D Coaching and saw her recognised with the 2022 Outstanding Contribution to Coaching Award from Henley Business School.Claire is a master of the art of communicating complicated things simply, but admits it took a long time to have the confidence to cut through complexity and offer straightforward truths when coaching or mentoring coaches.Listening to her speak, you cannot fail to appreciate the fundamental importance of her approach, which is explained with refreshing clarity. In this episode, we talk about:Whether we have to be the things we want to develop in people The impact of modelling the boundaries we setThe holy ground in the coaching space and how to interact with itBeing wise about how many coffees to have with someone and still call it workLearning how to be silent and how to wait while coaching clients are doing good workClaire also talks about how to value your time, how to balance delivery and business development, and the importance of – as coaches – telling the truth about ourselves. To learn more about Claire, visit https://www.linkedin.com/in/clairepedrick/For information about my wider work, my writing or to buy my books, visit www.robbieswale.com.Music by My Good Man William: listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4KmeQUcTbeE31uFynHQLQgTo support the Coach's Journey, visit www.patreon.com/thecoachsjourney and to join the Coach's Journey Community visit www.thecoachsjourney.com/community. I sat down with a wonderful group of guests to talk about resolutions: for our own work, for the church, for the academy, for the... a whole lot of things. It was fun. Skyler Keiter-Massefski is a theological anthropologist whose work coalesces around the themes of trans embodiment, American empire, eschatology, and abolition. They hold a degree in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and will receive their MDiv from Yale in May. You can find Skyler writing about academia, queerness, and ghosts on Twitter @SkylerJay_. Ed Watson is a Theology PhD student at Yale. Originally from the UK, he spent time teaching in New Haven and developing homelessness ministries in Denver before pursuing various academic itches. He focuses on the relationships between doctrine, concept formation, and colonialism, especially in terms of how fundamental Christian beliefs motivate senses kinship and inheritance which in turn generate racialized concepts of belonging. He is an ardent supporter of Liverpool FC, Andy Murray, and Scottish rugby. On twitter at @an_edcentric Rev Radhika Sukumar-White has been a Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church since 2016. She is a 2nd Generation Sri Lankan Tamil Australian, and grew up in Canberra before moving to Sydney to study Physiotherapy, Music, and then Theology. Radhika is passionate about leading vibrant worship, preaching and teaching, and walking alongside individuals in their life and faith journey. She and her husband Adrian are privileged to have been called to Leichhardt Uniting Church as a ministry team. Radhika is also deeply passionate about brunch. Laura Jean Truman is an Atlanta based writer, itinerant chaplain, and amateur mystic. She lives and writes in the in-between places of loving Jesus, being queer, and rediscovering a more spacious Christianity after fundamentalism. I seem to be talking about heat recovery almost daily so I had to do a follow up podcast with Multistack to add to the modular chiller podcast (Episode #24). I had Ed Watson define heat recovery and go through the 3 heat recovery options they have. We talked about the water to water heat recovery, 4-pipe air source heat recovery and their VME 6-pipe heat recovery system. We also talked about water temperature which always seems to catch engineers off guard so it was essential we went through it. If you want to see pictures of these systems, go to Multistack.com or email me and I'll walk you through them. vpriolo@airtreatment.com or 949-698-3014

This week we are going back to the days of college for some, and looking forward to the future for others. Sitting down with Dr. Ed. Watson to discuss the entrepreneurial ecosystem being developed at LSU. We walk through the beginning days dating back to the 1980s of when the department and courses were just getting started. We discuss the dot com boom and everything it meant for the ISDS department at LSU. As being an LSU Alumni myself, the entrepreneurship department plays an important role for me as I was among the first two graduates with the paired bachelors degree in Entrepreneurship. There is such an importance of having a strong entrepreneurship program at a large university because it allows students to utilize the resources of the university in order to further progress their business ideas. While the end goal is still a diploma, they are putting in steps to ensure you can also graduate with a business underway. If you are enjoying the show, we would be forever grateful for a share, subscribe, or even a review wherever you listen to podcasts or Facebook. My friend Ed shares a beautiful and unique story of courageously joining the church in Rhode Island after exploring multiple religions in 2008, serving mission in California in 2009 to 2011, attending Southern Virginia University, resigned from the Church in 2016, finding a wonderful partner (still together after 4 years), attending grad school at Emerson College, and now starting to attend his local LDS congregation because of his deep belief in the Church. It’s a unique story of Ed’s person revelation of his belief in both the Church and his relationship with his partner. Thank you Ed for sharing your story. It doesn’t fit into a nice-tidy box. But I love how you are doing the best you can to stay close and be guided by God. Honored to have you share your story!

James Routledge and George Bettany, founders of the mental health startup Sanctus, have been on a mission for the last two years to try and change the perceptions of mental health - with the intention of one day putting the first mental health gym on the high street.Their experiences with mental health from before Sanctus and through their work with businesses around the UK to create impartial, safe spaces for employees to work on their mental health have made them realise just how much the perceptions need to change and how we need to get people talking about their mental health in day to day conversation. Is it possible to find the calm in the chaos of each of our lives? We all have our own level of chaos that impacts our mental health. So we invited on a couple of people who have had their fair share of dealing with chaos to see how they dealt with it and see if a solution can be found. Before going into paramedic training, Nic Dunn underwent a surgery that left him with chronic pain and struggles with anxiety as a result. Throughout his studies, his difficulties eventually led him to finding mindfulness as a technique to deal with both the physical and emotional difficulties of being a paramedic - from helping a pensioner after a fall to resuscitating somebody in the street on a day to day basis. After realising he wanted to be a teacher, Ed Watson never fully appreciated the workload required to be a teacher. Working in schools that really needed help with a diverse range of students, Ed's desire for success led him to winning a teaching award despite the unbelievable stress of the job. Despite being shuttled into a bus on the first day after a suspected attack from a rival school and being punched in class, the chaos that really got to Ed was the constant disruptions that formed years of chaos. Music Credits:"Loopster, Bicycle, Odyssey, Perspectives" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
