Charlie discusses the four key areas of focus for 2025: driving revenue, continued innovation, operational efficiencies, and ensuring fortress security. Investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke major news this past Tuesday with the announcement that Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at his father's church, Cathedral Baptist Church (formerly All Nations Church), in 1998 and again sexually assaulting her in 2023. The lawsuit was filed by Jane Doe No. 1 against John-Paul Miller, Reginald Wayne Miller, and their churches, including Solid Rock Ministries. Mandy and Liz share details of the lawsuit while connecting the dots on what was happening in JP's life at the time. Plus, they sit for an interview with Rock Hill attorney Randy Hood of McGowan, Hood, Felder and Phillips law firm, who is representing Jane, to learn more about Jane's case and what the world of litigating institutional child sexual abuse looks like. Hood is no stranger to suing churches on behalf of sexual assault victims. He also represents clients in the case against Morningstar Fellowship Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina. On Tuesday, Mandy and Liz also broke the very important news that attorney Mark Tinsley from the Murdaugh Murders trial — aka Zero Dark Tinsley and Tiger Tinsley — is also representing Jane in her case against the Millers. Also on the show, JP Miller appeared in Magistrate Court on Wednesday for a hearing related to seven of his cases against protesters and … well, he did a terrible job, as expected… The premium extended episode includes a play-by-play featuring the most pertinent highlights. Special thanks to Ben from Artistic Eye Productions based in Summerville, SC for covering the Magistrate Court Proceedings Let's dive in...

Welcome to the second episode of the Purpose to Impact series on Stories from the River. In this episode, host Charlie Malouf introduces Teri Frangie, the newly appointed Senior Vice President of Global Business Development with Core Leadership Institute, and Kip Meyer. Both Teri and Kip attended the two-day Purpose to Impact program held on October 22nd and 23rd in Fort Mill, South Carolina, facilitated by Nick Craig from the Core Leadership Institute. Before diving into their reflections from the two-day experience, they discuss the evolution of the program over the past several years from its initial focus on authentic leadership to its current dedication to discovering and refining one's purpose. During the course of the conversation, they reveal the process of discovering their own personal purpose statements. Teri shares her inspiring purpose statement of "To uplift others and bring their score to light" with a tagline of "Co-creating melodies that inspire light and harmony," Kip reveals his refined purpose of "Excavating for hidden treasures within," which derived from "To help people see something meaningful that they do not see on their own." Then Charlie also reflects on his purpose, distilled to "Play the game," which started as a more lengthier version of "Play the game of life with a driven commitment that echoes and inspires others to rise to the occasion and reach their potential," before getting reduced to "Play the game of life." Charlie is still weighing whether or not to include the 2nd part, which in full would then be, "Play the game. Rise to the occasion." The episode delves into their personal growth experiences and the power of collaborative reflection and storytelling. They highlight the value of the program in fostering deep, non-judgmental relationships and gaining clarity and confidence through shared vulnerability. They appreciate the iterative process of creating and refining purpose statements, emphasizing that self-discovery is an ongoing journey. Charlie, Teri, and Kip urge listeners to consider the Purpose to Impact program for its significant impact on personal and professional development. Charlie also underscores the importance of "slowing down to go fast," ensuring one aligns with their true direction in life. Welcome to the first episode of the Purpose to Impact Series here on Stories from the River. In this episode, Charlie Malouf, Manny Rodrigues, and Heather Greenwood dive into their enriching experiences from a two-day workshop hosted by Broad River Retail and created by Nick Craig of the Core Leader Institute. The workshop, focusing on the Purpose to Impact program, brought together a diverse group of leaders from across the country and a few Memory Makers from Broad River for two days (October 22-23, 2024) in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and was led by Nick Craig along with Davin Salvagno. Charlie, Heather, and Manny found the intimate setting and pre-work exercises beneficial for deep self-reflection. There were a dozen overall leaders who were then put into smaller cohorts of four people each. The smaller group size facilitated candid sharing, enabled the participants to form strong bonds, and minimized passive participation. Each person was encouraged to explore significant life challenges and leadership successes, paving the way for meaningful discussions and authentic connections. Charlie, Heather, and Manny shared personal reflections and takeaways, underscoring the importance of fully engaging with the process. The effective facilitation by Nick and Davin allowed for impactful one-on-one sessions and cohort sharing. The two-day workshop culminates in crystallizing your personal purpose statement. Charlie, Heather, and Manny each revealed their own personal purpose statements that came about through this intensive and reflective workshop. Heather's purpose statement, "To light the spark that ignites greatness in others," resonated with her belief in supporting and inspiring others. Manny's purpose statement, "Illuminating the path one story at a time," echoed his commitment to understanding and sharing stories to help others. Charlie's simplified purpose statement of "Play the game" defines his philosophy and approach to life. The trio emphasized the value of forming deep relationships and the transformative potential of fully participating in the workshop, ultimately advocating for intentional living and continuous personal growth. The Memory Makers express how these insights will influence their work practices, from improving interdepartmental communication to fostering team collaboration and self-reflection on their personal roles and biases. The episode wraps up with participants sharing their favorite quotes from Ron's talk and how these lessons will be implemented in their daily work lives to contribute to a more cohesive, trusting, and collaborative organization. Welcome to Stories from the River and this new mini-series from Ron Carucci's visit to Broad River Retail. Host Charlie Malouf welcomes guest speaker Ron Carucci, a bestselling author, and the co-founder and managing partner of Navalent. Carucci is known for his expertise in building trust within organizations and has spoken multiple times at the Purpose Summit, including the recent Purpose Summit this spring in Charlotte, North Carolina. This episode features a Q&A session with Carucci, who engaged with Broad River Retail's Memory Makers at their Fort Mill, South Carolina, campus following his talk and presentation to Broad River's Memory Makers on Friday, September 20th. The discussion focuses on insights into organizational trust, collaboration, and effective communication across different departments, or ways to 'stitch the seams' and keep the seams better connected. Carucci delves into ways to handle and improve tension in relationships within the workplace, emphasizing the importance of consistent and honest communication. He suggests practical steps like having regular, informal conversations to build trust slowly and advocates for the use of 3rd party facilitators when necessary. Carucci also addresses the need for scalable operating models and warns against relying on "heroics"—short-term, unsustainable efforts to fix problems. Instead, he encourages organizations to create standardized processes that can support long-term growth and innovation. Warren: Two more lawsuits have been filed against MorningStar Fellowship Church in Fort Mill, S.C., and its leaders for not reporting sexual abuse allegations to law enforcement. A previous lawsuit was filed on August 7 against MorningStar and its leaders alleging that Erickson Lee used his access to children through the church's “Young Special Forces” program to groom and eventually abuse children in the church. Lee was arrested in May on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and on September 5 entered into an offered plea deal to serve nine years in prison, according to Randy Hood, attorney for the plaintiffs. Natasha: What are these new lawsuits? Warren: Two more alleged victims have come forward to seek accountability for their abuse from Morningstar Fellowship Church and its leaders. All of the lawsuits have been filed anonymously by John Doe #1, John Doe #2, and John Doe #3 who are now over age 18, but were 13 years old when the alleged abuse began. Leaders named in the lawsuit include Rick Joyner, David Yarns, and Erickson Lee's father, Douglas Lee, who was the former head of security for the church. “This is about accountability and responsibility,” Hood said. “Churches have to create policies and procedures to protect children. They need to monitor and supervise people who are over children.” Natasha: Because of previous allegations of sexual assault at MorningStar in the early 2000s, the lawsuits claim that Joyner, Yarns, and Lee knew of the risks and had a duty and opportunity to protect vulnerable children from being exploited and abused while participating in the youth programs at MorningStar. Warren: Instead, the lawsuit asserts, the leadership ignored “signs of provision of alcohol and pornography to minors and signs of sexual exploitation or abuse of minors by church staff, members, or volunteers.”
