Join me for the Productivity mini-series - Part II:   How to master our time, and make tools for time accessible for everyone?   We all feel the challenge of managing our time in an effective way. So much content to consume, so many things to learn in order to optimize and grow in our various life aspects. As a founder that needs to manage so many projects at the same time - below are few hacks that you should consider implementing: Time boxing is a very efficient way to manage our calendar.  We begin with dividing our work into 2 buckets - (1) Deep work, which requires deep concentration (e.g  - prep a board PPT). It requires a higher cognitive intent. The rule of thumb for this kind of work is a 2-hours block. (2) Shallow work - a work that doesn't require too much concentration, like posting on SM. The idea - is to block our calendar in order to avoid a situation where the shallow work is minimizing our deep work time.    How can we avoid it? By designing the next week at the end of the previous week, and block 2 hours every day, usually at the same time (9-11am) to work on the 1 meaningful task that we have defined. That's exactly how the Eisenhower Matrix Method is designed. All meetings can take place after lunch time, and that way the mornings are free for creative & deep work time. Make sure to close your email, and spend 20 min, 3 times a day, on your inbox processing. Try to avoid task switching - it takes our mind 16-23 minutes to recover from distractions. If you really need external help - Simplify helps you put constraints on your email and FB lite does the same for FB. The idea is not to delete the services - but to modify them to your own needs. Remember - being a founder/ employer/ parent/ single - you are the same human being, personally and professionally wise. Hence, your calendars need to be synced, so that you will have a holistic reflection of the way you invest your time.     Matt Mochary, a CEO Coach and the author of The Great CEO Within, speaks about Calender Audit. At the end of the year - you go to your calendar and print 52 weeks of the last year and take a few markers. You mark and circle in green (e.g) the events that boosted your energy. Then, you try to put in buckets all the other events that you didn't circle - as they didn't raise your energy, according to certain patterns. First of all - you see the % of the events that weren't in a green circle - try to minimize that percentage. Then, you check what kind of substitutes you can offer to those tasks - that won't take your energy. E.g - commuting doesn't serve you well - so you work remotely >> more time in your calendar for things you love.  You have to see that you create the right categories that are shown in your calendar: family, network, IR, hirings, inbox processing, health… Each one and what is important to them.   Our brain can't remember it all, and we can't do everything we want in 24 hours minus sleeping. That's why we need to create an artificial brain - a second brain that documents information and helps us make decisions and save us precious time. Tools like Notion, clay, Roam Research (a note-taking tool for networked thought, easy to use as a document & as powerful as a graph database), mailbrew (create beautiful, automated newsletters with content from the sites and apps you love), readwise (grow wiser and retain books better: Readwise sends you a daily email resurfacing your best highlights from Kindle, Instapaper, iBooks, and more) and others - help in managing and saving our time by capturing, containing, indexing and pulling the right data/info we need for a specific task/decision. It works on the same logic of compound interest - the interest on interest. It is the result of reinvesting interest, rather than paying it out, so that interest in the next period is then earned on the principal sum plus previously accumulated interest. The same goes for the time you save and the knowledge you gain. Learning and implementing methods like Space Repetition can help boost our productivity and ability to remember.    Well, there are so many productivity and time management tools, and that is exactly the problem. How can we reduce the noise? Is there a one tool that syncs everything together? How can we create this ONE tool that is bettering our own productivity methods and techniques?    That was one of the reasons why Tommy founded Supertools - a community that aims to expose its members to various tools with the purpose of extending & optimizing their time. Just like we have superfood - we all need a supertool. That brings another major question - how much technology should we consume? Are we managing the technology, or it manages us? Technology is not good or bad - it's neutral. It simplifies our life - providing us with measurements (like apple watch), or stress and readiness levels (like Oura Ring) - but that's not enough. We need the insights, the recommendations, in order to deal with decision fatigue. It's a question of how we manage the relationship with technology tools.  We need to care about our time. The problem with calendars is that they are broken. Their purpose is being our RSVP platform - but what we actually need, is a gatekeeper, not a bookkeeper - to minimize our bad time-decisions. The only way to become time billionaires, is to change our mindsets, put systems in place and become our own Chief of Time. In order to create a huge impact - there is a need to create software - and that's what Tommy is working on now at Magical.

How and why do codependents lie, omit, or evade telling the truth in order to maintain others' approval, attention, and affection? How do our efforts to “save face” really lead us behave in ugly behaviors? What's the cost to being inauthentic, disingenuous, and “fake” to our relationships--with others and ourselves???  In this episode, Marissa describes our attempts as codependents to please others, protect or cover up for those we love, and protect ourselves BY LYING. She shares stories from her childhood and adolescence that taught her lying can help her maintain approval (i.e., love) from others and how she applied that to most situations in her life--at a cost. She concludes with questions you can ask yourself about your own dishonesty and truly discern whether you want to keep lying or start telling the truth. Thanks for listening!  www.codependummy.com @therapywithmarissa on IG  Deets on this week's episode: Part I: Why do codependents lie? In her book, Codependent No More, which is a classic for us codependents, Melody Beattie spells out codependent characteristics, including “poor communication,” including how codependents frequently: Try to say what they think will please people Lie to protect and cover up for people they love  Lie to protect themselves Where did you learn to lie, baby girl?  What comes to mind when you recall lying in your past?  Like many children, I learned to lie to avoid getting into trouble at school, home, and with any authority figure. I also learned to lie to maintain a certain reputation, status, or perception by others as a good, responsible, and lovable girl. And to protect my parents and sisters. Not conscious but my actions indicated that was what I was after.  An example of lying to protect and cover up for the people I loved: when I got lice. Long story short: my mom got outed for not doing a good job checking my head for lice despite being a school nurse. Busted!  Unintentionally, in that moment, she taught me a few things: omission is better than honesty, don't admit mistakes, and lie to others to maintain your reputation.  I believe that, in my codependency, I took these moments, internalized these rules, and then ran with them to an extreme in order to avoid abandonment. Any memories you have of learning to lie? And for who? Recap: we lie to please others, protect and cover for those we love, and to protect ourselves.  Part II: How do our efforts to “save face” lead us to behave in ugly behaviors? Saving face: Avoid humiliation or embarrassment, preserve dignity, as in Rather than fire him outright, they let him save face by accepting his resignation. The phrase, which uses face in the sense of "outward appearances," The main anecdote I want to focus on in this episode demonstrates a combination of Beattie's traits: saying what will please others and lying to protect myself.  Long story short: I drank on a trip in high school and lied about it. Some other students got caught while others, including myself, did not. I lied to my favorite teacher and omitted to my parents, sister, friends, and others about my actions. I may have looked “pretty” and favorable but I engaged in some ugly-ass behaviors.  Part III: What's the cost of being inauthentic to ourselves and others? No matter what we do, lying or being honest, there is an emotional cost. Sometimes there is a physical cost. Or a spiritual cost.  The cost of lying about drinking on this trip was the fact that I furthered my sense of aloneness atop my pedestal, I added distance between myself and my loved one's, and I walked around with a target on my back.  What price are you paying due to your inauthenticity, ingenuineness, and being “fake?” What behaviors are you engaging in to compensate for the cost?  Conclusion: We are not entirely full of shit. We keep shit in to please others, protect and cover for those we love, and to protect ourselves.  ...but at a cost. And, I would encourage you to look at: If you are lying, omitting, or evading the truth, what are you underlying motives? If you are “saving face” but engaged in ugly behaviors, what is the cost to you and your relationships with yourselves and others? If you are being inauthentic and ingenuine, is the cost worth it? By answering those questions, you can decide if you want to keep lying or omitting or discern, no, I want to be honest here. Truth is not a one-size-fits-all principle.  Now, if you decide to lie, omit, or evade the truth solely to please, protect others, and yourself...eventually, you will be full of shit and that's not sustainable.  Your homework: Like I eventually wrote and admitted my lie to my favorite teacher, I want you to write a letter to that person you want to come clean to.  You don't have to send it--just write it. If, after a week of reflection and meditation you want to send it, you can. If not, follow that discernment and let the writing be sufficient. PART II - How much public land has been stolen from the British people? The short answer is, a lot! We’re talking to Professor Brett Christophers from Uppsala University about his new book, The New Enclosure: The Appropriation of Public Land in Neoliberal Britain. And it’s a story that we just couldn’t squeeze into one episode, so alas, we’ve given the next two episodes of City Road over to exploring the ideas in the book. In the first episode we talk about the old enclosure acts of the last few centuries before moving to what Brett calls the new enclosure—or the privatisation of public land in the UK today. In the second episode, Brett draws some connections between the privatisation of public land and addressing the housing problem in the UK. He maps out the winners and losers of The New Enclosure, and here’s a hot tip, if you’re looking to buy or rent a house, you’re unlikely to be a winner. Here is the book blurb from Verso. Much has been written about Britain’s trailblazing post-1970s privatisation programme, but the biggest privatisation of them all has until now escaped scrutiny: the privatisation of land. Since Margaret Thatcher took power in 1979, and hidden from the public eye, about 10 per cent of the entire British land mass, including some of its most valuable real estate, has passed from public to private hands. Forest land, defence land, health service land and above all else local authority land—for farming and school sports, for recreation and housing—has been sold off en masse. Why? How? And with what social, economic and political consequences? The New Enclosure provides the first ever study of this profoundly significant phenomenon, situating it as a centrepiece of neoliberalism in Britain and as a successor programme to the original eighteenth-century enclosures. With more public land still slated for disposal, the book identifies the stakes and asks what, if anything, can and should be done. Guest Professor Brett Christophers’ research ranges widely across the political and cultural economies of Western capitalism, in historical and contemporary perspectives. Particular interests include money, finance and banking; housing and housing policy; urbanization; markets and pricing; accounting, modelling and other calculative practices; competition and intellectual property law; and the cultural industries and the discourse of “creativity”.

Let's get into these! Four months ago I posted a video about how to sell anything to anyone. Half million people saw that video, (and about half a million funny comments as well) but it was missing something.... The thing is before you jump to selling something to someone, you need to understand exactly who you’re selling to. Get INSIDE their heads. Successful marketing is the precursor to unlimited sales — see past the superficial layers customers will say, and dive into the deepest truth of what they won’t say. Talk about how to do that in this video. ► Part II: How to Sell A Product - Sell Anything to Anyone with The 4 P's Method: https://youtu.be/UCo3Z-y72Kg Hey it’s Clark back from refusingtosettle.com — creator of Video Breakthrough Academy. One of the biggest struggles I had, when I was first starting my online business, was deciding who I was talking to. You’re going to have a hard time selling if you don’t know how to market or brand yourself. WARNING: Use this only for good - can be manipulative. Actually hurt you if you don’t do this tastefully. Watch the entire video carefully. Before I go further, WHOLE module on this in VBA — get deep inside audience’s head. Credit: Mike Fishman on the Social Triggers podcast. Three steps: 1. Can Say First, is focusing on what they can say — the obvious stuff. Sometimes, the most PC stuff/ easy to say. EX: Health — I want to lose weight so that I can be healthy EX: Business — I want my business to be successful so that I can impact people EX: Dating — I want to find someone who I can treat well. Worth investing into. Relationship with and Friendship with. How to find this out? Obvious because they will tell you! 2. Won’t Say Second is focusing on what they WON’T say — the deeper stuff. Often times we know this about yourself, but wouldn't share it outright. EX: Health — I want to lose weight so that I can take off my shirt at a beach and feel confident. EX: Business — I want to get filthy rich so that work is a bonus, not a have to. Drag me out of bed slave to an alarm clock each morning. Don't have to beg for 2 weeks off each year. EX: Dating — I want to be desirable, know that when I walk away from talking to women she’s going to tell her friends about me. BONUS TIP: paint the picture. Say things like “picture this” or “what would it feel like” REAL world examples that resonate with people “i.e. slave to alarm clock” 3. Can’t Say Last, is focusing on what they CAN’T say — the deepest, subconscious layer. You know them better than they know themselves! Point out things they don’t even realize. Most people aren't marketers, don’t get this deep into their own heads…. but they FEEL it. The last video, we buy with emotions and justify with logic. WARNING: this can get manipulative. Too soon = offensive. EX: Health — I want to get a six pack so that women will want me, men will be jealous, and I can take photos for Instagram and be proud of my body. EX: Business — My reason: I want to make so much money that my family never has to worry about finances ever again. I can be a provider, someone my wife brags about at parties. Someone who has “made it” EX: Dating — women true example: I thought I’d have someone by now, all my friends having children and seem further ahead than me, I don’t want to miss my biological clock and never be able to bear children.
