UFC 250 is supposed to be a celebration of American independence, yet it appears to be the opposite. The event has been leveraged against the ongoing bombardment of Iran as part of some grand chess board, master class of political maneuvering. But a peace deal has been agreed on to stop the war that the US started, right? Meanwhile, the NBA finals concluded with Third World riots in New York City. On the other hand, the World Cup has received tremendous amounts of attention not only for its popularity, but because the Japanese fans stayed behind to clean the stadium. There's clearly a difference between the NBA Finals celebration and the World Cup, and it has nothing to do with Japan — instead, it is about culture vs the lack thereof. Rather than reading the declaration we hold a gladiator sport on the White House lawn. Perhaps it is because of the line: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” If the essence of this founding principle were to be embodied, the UFC stage would be replaced with gallows and the NYC riots would be harshly punished. American society desperately needs to apply the law and bring back shame, accountability and respect. The same thing needs to occur in conspiracy land, where psychics and foreign agents like Uri Gellar are claiming a giant UFO is going to abduct people from World Cup games.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. A celebration intended to honor the founding of the United States is rapidly being repackaged as a celebration of Trump himself: his movement, his grievances, his white supremacy, his misogyny, and his power. The Roman emperors understood the deal they were making with the public: bread and circuses. Trump has inverted the formula. He's keeping the circus and taking away the bread.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Today, Paul M. Neuberger rips the mask off the biggest lie of our age: the circus of distraction. He names it. He shames it. He takes you inside the Roman “bread and circuses” mentality that's running rampant in our digital age—an endless parade of noise, entertainment, compromise. And what does it cost? Our focus. Our courage. Our commission to stand tall for truth in a world that's happy to see you spiritually asleep. But here's the larger truth—Jesus is still Lord. The gospel cannot be muted by another binge session, a never-ending scroll, or the thundering stampede of popular opinion. So, I'll ask you, executive… when your moment comes, when the crowd chants for conformity—will you wake up, speak up, and reclaim your focus for Christ?"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." –Romans 12:2Episode Highlights:13:37 – Distracted people are none of those things, and that's what makes a distracted person so vulnerable. When believers lose their focus, they become easier to influence, easier to discourage, and easier to pull away from the purpose God has placed on their lives. The enemy doesn't necessarily need Christians to renounce their faith outright. He simply needs them to become passive, comfortable, and horribly preoccupied. And if you look at modern culture, I would say that strategy is working pretty gosh darn well, incredibly well.23:29 – And when that happens, the church slowly loses its voice. But scripture never calls believers to quiet compliance with the surrounding culture. Scripture calls them to shine. It says this in Matthew 5: 14-16, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden... Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." Light isn't meant to hide. Light is meant to illuminate.41:51 – Entire industries exist to keep people watching, scrolling, and consuming. But Christians aren't obligated to participate in every cultural trend that's placed in front of them. Followers of Christ have the freedom to choose what they support, what they watch, and what they allow into their minds. When believers intentionally withdraw attention from content that contradicts their values, they begin starving the system that depends on that attention. And when enough people make that decision, culture begins to shift.Connect with Paul M. NeubergerWebsite
This week we narrowly avoided illness-based skipping and got it together to discuss TOS's Bread and Circuses! Beam down to a planet almost identical to Earth with us as we discuss some TV satire, some sword fighting, and homoynms.
We talk about the files, the Dow being at 50k, the Super Bowl Empire Show, and soooo much more.We aren't paywalling this episode because it's too good. See y'all next week!
Bread and Circuses were the instrument of control at the end of the Roman Empire. The shows at the coliseum featuring graphic barbarism, the open display of killing and the normalization of state defined enemies, all made available to the public for free including free bread. The masses became willfully bought and controlled. Today our version of this are the dramas of war, the institutionalized hatred of fellow Americans based on their political beliefs or religious beliefs, the scripted soap operas of Congressional testimonies that never produce results and the condemnation of citizens for daring to ask about Epstein instead of celebrating the profiteering and pillaging of the stock market . All of this is manipulation grounded in the roots of Babylon. None of this is of Jesus, nor does it reflect the Way of Christ. #BardsFM_Morning #BreadAndCircuses #WeAreAllConnected Bards Nation Health Store: www.bardsnationhealth.com EnviroKlenz Air Purification, promo code BARDS to save 10%: www.enviroklenz.com EMPShield protect your vehicles and home. The Roman Empire was famous for using free bread and games to distract its citizens from their problems. In the modern age, society instead uses video games, sports, television, and movies to pacify the mob. But what happens when the ruling elite make these distractions actively worse by injecting them with propaganda? We'll discuss why entertainment getting worse may be the best thing that ever happened to young men. “Bread and circuses” refers to the strategy of using public appeasement through free food (”bread”) and entertainment (”circuses”) to distract and pacify the general population, preventing them from revolting against political or social grievances. The phrase originates from the Roman poet Juvenal, who used it to criticize his fellow citizens for their declining civic responsibility. Sadly, both of the American political parties, which are mostly controlled by the deep state, employ the same tactic to keep us in line today. Stop falling for their false hope and put your faith in something far better. Now, do you believe in this ministry? Today's pod discusses the concept of "bread and circuses," a phrase originating from ancient Rome, attributed to Juvenal, describing how governments appease the populace through superficial provisions and entertainment rather than addressing substantive issues or fostering civic engagement. The sources explain that this tactic diverts public attention from critical matters like political corruption, economic struggles, or international crises. Modern examples, such as viral celebrity incidents, high-profile trials, and sporting events, are presented to illustrate how contemporary society experiences similar distractions that overshadow significant societal challenges. Ultimately, the texts highlight how these diversions can be intentionally used as tools to pacify, control narratives, and normalise public passivity, suggesting strategies to identify such manipulative practices by analysing timing, media coverage, and underlying beneficiaries.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The finale of Star Trek Summer is upon us, and before we send the crew of the Enterprise on their merry way, we've got a final pair of adventures to get through! First up, yet another old-human-society-on-an-alien-planet-thing in Bread and Circuses, then we meet Assignment: Earth's Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln, two crazy kids in the 1960s who have to stop World War III while Kirk and Spock stand around watching. CHAPTERS: (00:00:00) - The Nextlander Watchcast Episode 150: Star Trek: Bread and Circuses and Assignment: Earth (00:00:33) - Intro. (00:01:01) - Wasting no time at all launching straight into Bread and Circuses (and all the other Earth-like planet episodes). (00:06:59) - Some of the fraught background of this episode's production. (00:12:50) - Our penultimate guest cast. (00:19:13) - Planet Rome. (00:23:34) - Sun worshipers? They're more common than you think! (00:30:36) - At least we get a properly slimy villain in this episode. (00:37:50) - Sending Spock and Bones into the arena. (00:41:13) - The tank is on E and we've still got almost 15 minutes left in the episode. (00:49:08) - Are we really tacking a Jesus thing on here? Yes we are. (00:51:55) - What happens to this planet after this? And final thoughts. (00:55:00) - Break! (00:55:28) - We're back, and it's time to head back home in Assignment: Earth! (00:58:08) - The Star Trek Spin-Off Showcase! (01:01:59) - Cast chat, wherein we learn of Teri Garr's distaste for Star Trek and its fans. (01:05:23) - Brushing up against history. (01:26:01) - Wacky antics ensue. (01:29:00) - Gary climbs a rocket, Roberta messes with stuff. (01:35:46) - Kirk and Spock crash into the final scene for just long enough to do something lightly important. (01:40:25) - World War III is averted, but Gary Seven was never brought to series, so it all comes out in the wash. (01:44:15) - Final thoughts. (01:45:40) - Time for our favorites (and least favorites) of the season. (01:57:56) - What we have coming up in September. (02:01:30) - Outro.

Send us a textWelcome to Celebrate Poe - Episode 297 - Poe's Bread and CircusesToday I would like to begin by talking about the Coliseum itself before getting into other areas. The actual poem by Poe - The Coliseum - was one of his first poems - and might need a bit of background. And while I was doing research for this and future episodes regarding The Coliseum - I ran into several sources who said that they thought the poem was the best that Poe ever wrote. I did not think that much about the poem the first time I read it, but after I learned more, I can see why Poe's poem The Coliseum has so many fans.Thank you for experiencing Celebrate Poe.
Welcome to Living Hope Church! In today's sermon, Pastor Bill Francavilla explores the perfection of God and the flawed nature of humanity. We continue to reflect on the ancient concept of "bread and circuses," highlighting how society often seeks distraction instead of addressing deeper issues. Through historical examples of failed utopian societies, we illustrate that true paradise cannot be achieved by human effort alone.Scripture reveals that all have sinned, yet through faith in Jesus, we find redemption and the promise of a perfect future. The message reminds us that while our world is imperfect, our hope lies in God's grace and His ultimate plan for a new Heaven and Earth. Join us as we seek to understand our role as believers in a broken culture and the importance of following God's path to true fulfillment.Welcome to Living Hope Church! “A weak mind must be constantly entertained and stimulated. A strong mind can occupy itself and, more important, be still and vigilant in moments that demand it.” – Ryan Holiday In This Episode, We Get Stoic About: Panem et circenses is a Latin phrase that translates to "bread and circuses" in English. In ancient Rome, panem et circenses represented the political strategy employed by emperors and politicians to keep the population compliant. The government distributed free bread (panem) to citizens and organized lavish spectacles and entertainment (circenses), such as chariot races, gladiator fights, and theatrical performances, in grand arenas like the Colosseum. By providing basic necessities and diverting attention with extravagant shows, rulers aimed to prevent social unrest and maintain their power. Sound familiar? Crow engages in a lot of heavy breathing this episode. Is it because he is so dedicated to exercise that he is co-hosting while astride his wife's Peloton? Is he just so damn excited to be back with Rooster after an unexpected hiatus? Or is he just all up in the microphone's business with the gain turned up a tad too high? Astute listeners may be able to tell. For the rest of you, just enjoy!

The TOS writers once again explore the idea "What would have happened if 'x' hadn't fallen?" Not 1920's Chicago. Not Nazi Germany. No, this episode of Star Trek: The Original Series begs the question, "Men: How often do you think about the Roman Empire?" The crew discover YET ANOTHER Earth-like planet that is modeled after YET ANOTHER ancient Earth civilization and find themselves locked in YET ANOTHER prison cell where Kirk is coerced by YET ANOTHER beautiful woman.
KIRK, SPOCK & McCOY just play their behavioral hits in a classic episode of The Original Series that includes everything great and everything 1960s about the show. This being the 55th anniversary year of the episode, it's worth wondering how much of it holds up and how much of it is of its time. Will Bryan and Kristen delight in the character-specific dialogue along with the Roddenberry-driven "science fiction" scenario of a planet in the thrall of both "Caesar and Christ?" King Tarquinius secures his hold on power by expanding the Senate, but encounters a roadblock to strengthening the military in the person of a famous augur. Tarquinius is ruthless, productive, and the first great Roman promoter of "bread and circuses" (among other things, according to Livy, Tarquinius builds the Circus Maximus). Despite his political saavy, however, he comes to a violent, borderline slapstick end.Livy's Ab Urbe Condita: https://amzn.to/3gYwtbhMachiavelli's Discourses on Livy: https://amzn.to/3NtNBSjVirgil's Aeneid: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9780143105138New Humanists is brought to you by the Ancient Language Institute: https://ancientlanguage.com/Links may have referral codes, which earn us a commission at no additional cost to you.
