Callie stresses the need to help others in the classroom who are struggling to break down our academic egos, or to focus more on ourselves if we find ourselves comparing ourselves to other students. We need to be able to help others in the classroom, and sometimes being separated by our intelligence isn't the best thing for us. Callie encourages listeners to remember to think clearly, and show others compassion when they don't get it.

    In this week's episode, Callie talks all about academic validation! She explains that it's a tricky subject; academic validation itself can either help you are harm you academically. It can make you more competitive, thinking that your success is tied to others' failure, and that that will make you feel better. While other failures might make you feel better, it won't fulfill you. Academic success will always be an internal thing, and that we should move away from tying it to validating our self worth in order to actually be successful. However, failure and burn out can be necessary to our success, as it can force us to rethink our approach to success and how we attack our goals. It can clarify what we really need and want for ourselves, and make us see what is actually important for us to succeed in academics.

Touching on self worth, self love, and acceptance as aspects of identity, Callie explains that they all come from within yourself and are dictated by you. Moreover, that they shouldn't rely on other people, and should not be impacted by our reputation. They all depend on you. Callie posits that although our existence may seem insignificant in the moment, it is actually empowering. We are part of a bigger plan/picture, but our existence is somewhat slightly significant. This should empower us to make different choices then what we think we should do, and not form who we are based on other people. So, buckle up because this episode gets DEEP! :)

When I treat conflict as a learning experience and take accountability for my actions, that's when the real work begins. :)
