Is Meditation All It's Cracked Up to Be? - Episode 509 Millions of people meditate. Neuroscientists study it. CEOs swear by it. Monks dedicate their lives to it. But does meditation really live up to the hype?" In this episode of Ted in Your Head, Certified Hypnotherapist Ted Moreno explores the question: Is meditation all it's cracked up to be? Drawing from both personal experience and current scientific research, Ted discusses how meditation can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, improve focus and emotional resilience, and even create measurable changes in the brain. More importantly, you'll discover how meditation can help you develop a healthier relationship with your thoughts—allowing you to step back from worry, fear, and self-criticism instead of being controlled by them. Do you find yourself constantly thinking, worrying, or stressing about the future? Would you like more peace of mind, greater self-awareness, and a deeper sense of presence? Listen to this episode to learn why meditation has stood the test of time, how it can benefit your mental and emotional well-being, and some simple ways to begin a practice of your own. Your steam cycle finishes, and out of habit, someone cracks the sterilizer door. Sound familiar? On this episode of Beyond Clean, we sit down with Echo Pontinen, Sterile Processing Educator at Lee Health, to take a closer look at the long-standing practice of cracking the sterilizer door after a cycle. This conversation will dive into what sterilizer IFUs actually recommend, why wet loads happen in the first place, and how practices meant to "help" can sometimes prevent teams from identifying bigger issues with equipment, water quality, and more. As we wrap up the season, Echo leaves us with one final SPD fact check that may have your team asking whether your current process is solving the problem or hiding it. The documentary filmmaker Michelle Esrick (“Saint Misbehavin: The Wavy Gravy Movie”, “Cracked Up”) makes her first appearance on the podcast to discuss an upcoming event she is hosting: Wavy Gravy’s 90th Birthday celebration. The event will take place on Wavy’s 90th birthday which is May 15th, 7PM, at the Presidio Theatre in San Francisco. The Q&A following the screening will include Michelle and Wavy, as well as Wavy’s wife Jahanara Romney and Dr. Larry Brilliant. It will be moderated by author Bob Santelli. Wavy Gravy is known as the MC of the Woodstock festival, a hippie icon, activist, clown, and even a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor. In “Saint Misbehavin'” we meet a true servant to humanity who carries his message through humor, compassion, and a song he wrote called “Basic Human Needs”. The film weaves together intimate vérité footage, reflections from an array of cultural and counter-cultural peers, and a rich collection of never-before-seen archival footage to tell a story that is bigger than the man himself. Contact Scott from Bonsai MatsuHow old is that bonsai? Ever been asked that question and wondered why it has been asked? Does it really matter how old it is? We work so hard on the perception of age through the application of styling techniques that I just wonder if the age of a bonsai should change from 'Actual' age to a 'Feels Like' age. I feel there are areas within bonsai design that can help with the appearance of age for the viewer, like branch angle, formation of the apex, nebari and the ramification.Support the showBecome a podcast supporter and show the Bonsai Love (it's really appreciated) ❤️https://www.buzzsprout.com/263290/supportWhere to find Bonsai Matsu:InstagramFacebookYouTube Web

When filmmaker Dana Conroy's doctor suggested laser eye surgery, or LASIK, to correct her nearsightedness, it seemed like a good idea. With success rates touted near 99% and millions of people getting it done, she expected to throw away her glasses for good. Instead, she found herself battling constant pain, crushing headaches, unrelenting dryness, and eyesight that only got worse. Trying to understand what happened, she put herself behind and in front of the camera, tracking down specialists and others who say they were harmed by a procedure sold as simple and safe. Along the way she met ophthalmologist Dr. Cynthia MacKay, who's been pushing back against LASIK for decades. Dana Conroy's documentary is called Broken Eyes, and a link to it is here. Vince Gilligan's new show, “Pluribus,” opens with an unconventional apocalypse. A benevolent alien hive mind descends on Earth, commandeering the bodies of all but a handful of people who appear to be immune, including a curmudgeonly writer named Carol Sturka. Though the world that the “joined” are building seems ideal—no more crime, efficient resource distribution, an end to discrimination—it doesn't leave much room for Carol's messy humanity. Is it worth it? On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz discuss “Pluribus” and other perfect societies imagined and enacted by artists and thinkers, from Thomas More's 1516 satire, “Utopia,” to the Shaker movement and beyond. They reflect on why these experiments have rarely held up to scrutiny or benefitted more than a select few, and why we keep coming back to them anyway. “I'm not the most optimistic person,” Fry says. “But if you're stuck in pessimistic, dystopic thinking, are you foreclosing on greater promise or greater potential of imagination?” Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“Pluribus” (2025–)“Breaking Bad” (2008-13)“Better Call Saul” (2015-22)“The X-Files” (1993-2002)“The Giver,” by Lois Lowry“Utopia,” by Thomas More“Les Guérillères,” by Monique Wittig “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977)“The Testament of Ann Lee” (2025)“The Hunger Games,” by Suzanne Collins“Utopia for Realists,” by Rutger Bregman“Ragtime” (1996)New episodes drop every Thursday. Back-to-school time is here! (Exclamation point or womp-womp? Depends on who you are, probably.) Jeremy Bradley talks about how he loved going back to school as a kid. Naturally, not all kids feel that way. Of course, for parents, it means they get rid of their little nose-pickers and make them someone else's problem for much of the day. But, if that's the feeling, it seems like parents can't stand being around their offspring. You've seen the TV commercial to the tune of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" where the parent gleefully rides the shopping cart as the kids head back to class. It's never made sense to JB. If parenting is so wonderful, why are you so happy to get rid of your kids and pawn them off on someone else?
