The Mirasee FM podcast team chooses their favorite episode of 2024 to close out the year. In this pick, Melinda talks with executive leadership coach Adam Quiney about his key insights for facilitating breakthroughs, allowing discomfort for growth, and creating tangible results in a co-creative process.Adam Quiney is an executive leadership coach specializing in working with the “Smartest People in the Room.”In this episode, Melinda and Adam explore the secrets behind breakthroughs and the difference between transformational and transactional results. They discuss the importance of meeting clients where they are and testing and navigating the limits of their worldviews. Melinda and Adam also delve into the process of breakthroughs and the challenges that arise along the way. The conversation highlights the significance of trusting intuition and making room for spirit in the coaching process — and we learn practical strategies to facilitate breakthroughs and create tangible results.Key Takeaways:Transformational results require a fundamental shift in the way we show up in our lives, while transactional results are surface-level changes that don't require a fundamental shift.Coaches should meet clients where they are and explore the limits of their worldviews to support them in creating breakthroughs.Breakthroughs often involve a process of discomfort and uncertainty, and coaches should hold space for clients to be in their own process.Creating tangible results and setting measurable goals can support clients in staying on the path of breakthroughs.Coaches should make room for spirit and trust the process of co-creation in facilitating breakthroughs.Chapters:00:00 - The Secrets Behind Breakthroughs01:46 - Adam Quiney's Journey of Self-Discovery and Transformation02:45 - Transformational Results vs Transactional Results04:14 - Creating Transformational Results05:12 - The Difference Between Surface Level Changes and Transformation06:34 - Meeting Clients Where They Start08:02 - Exploring the Limits of Clients' Worldviews09:23 - The Process of Breakthroughs10:49 - Navigating the Challenges of Breakthroughs13:14 - The Structure and Magic of Breakthroughs16:29 - Trusting Intuition and Being in the Process18:18 - Creating Tangible Results20:43 - Making Room for Spirit in Breakthroughs22:34 - The Journey of Trusting Spirit28:22 - Approaches to Facilitate Breakthroughs“To create the transformational result where I worked half as many hours and made twice as much money, that was going to require a breakthrough, a fundamental change in the way I showed up in my life.” — Adam QuineyGuest Bio:Adam Quiney is an executive leadership coach specializing in working with the “Smartest People in the Room.” A former software developer and attorney, Adam's learned the hard way about the costs that come from keeping your heart safe and chasing after external rewards to feel whole and complete. From a place of love, Adam is connection, passion, presence, wit, and brilliance. Before jumping into our history of band name punctuation, I wanted to let everyone know that on Thursday, October 31, I will be appearing in an online event with my former colleague Dave Edwards. This conversation is part of a series called The Smartest People in the Room that features “one-on-one conversations between music industry executives and personalities.” While I won't claim to be one of the smartest people in any room, I'm really excited for this. In the past, the event has featured the likes of Stewart Copeland, Bob Lefsetz, Gloria Gaynor, and Simon Napier-Bell, among many others. As noted, Dave Edwards and I worked together at Audiomack for years. As our Chief Revenue Officer, he has deep insight into the economics of how music streaming works and how it can be better. Recently, he left Audiomack to become the SVP of Revenue & Operations at Warner Records. Over an hour, we're going to talk all things music. The eclipse was cool - I guess - for 4 minutes. But man, some people's reactions and takes on the eclipse were just bonkers stupid. I welcome back PAUL CHARCHIAN and explain why I needed a "load management" day. Also, UConn finishes what it's started. Coach Cal gets out of dodge, while strollering his doggo. On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Adam Quiney. Adam is an executive leadership coach specialising in working with the “Smartest People in the Room.” A former software developer and attorney, Adam's learned the hard way about the costs that come from keeping your heart safe and chasing after external rewards to feel whole and complete. From love, Adam is connection, passion, presence, wit and brilliance. From fear, he is awkward, robotic, apathetic, irrelevant and arrogant. He's learned to embrace all these parts of himself, and works with others to do the same in their own lives. Living with his beautiful wife and their dog in Victoria, B.C, he is a man on a mission to bring the world to a more inspired and fully-expressed place. In today's episode, Adam and I explore how to harness plant medicine to create meaningful impact in the world - in particular, discussing the power of plants as ancient “medicine” - in whatever form they are worked with, whether herbal, psychedelic, or archetypally. We begin to understand how plant medicine can help us heal and step more deeply into the meaningful work we are born to do, and how we can integrate the journey with plant medicine to fully express our gifts. What You'll Learn from this Episode: The purpose of plant medicine is to help us to heal. We think that we already have “medicine” in the world, but the medicine we know in the Western world is actually “drugs” that temporarily halt the symptoms and disconnect us Instead, “medicine” is something which supports us to do our own healing and reconnect us to our soul's wholeness. This is often more challenging because we have to confront the wound that got created in us that has been stored for years Genuine healing, like this, can feel like we are getting ‘worse' before we get better - because we have to go through ‘breakdown' - or healing response - before the ‘breakthrough' - the hardest part is staying the course in the midst of us doing that whilst everyone else is popping pills We have learned to relate to ourselves as “this is just the way I am ” - which has us numb our possibility. Possibility often looks like ‘impossibility' because it's found in the unknown and creates us to fear that “there's no way I can do that” What plant medicine does is to support us to come out of our conscious mind, drop our ego and personality - and connect with pure spirit - so that we can lean into the areas we have shut the door on - unconsciously - and visit them to reveal and face the fears we have and start to heal them, making them conscious The more healing we do - the more wounds we heal - the more we reconnect to who we were born as, and the more we can discover our true purpose. In fact, the more we heal, the more magnetic we become to be around, and the more of a clear channel we are as healing activators of others - aka the more we can step into our gifts as healers. Jeffrey A. Tucker (founder and president of the Brownstone Institute) returns with Dr. Kelly Victory to discuss Big Pharma's influence over healthcare in America, the upcoming 2023 Presidential Elections, and a recent Brownstone article that questions why so many of the world's smartest people – on both the Left and the Right – appear to have been fooled during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Suddenly, in 2020, some of the smartest people in the world — James Surowiecki, Naomi Klein, Nassim Taleb, Noam Chomsky, Slavoj Žižek, and so many more that you can name — stopped being smart,” writes Toby Rogers. “This happened all across the ideological spectrum. THE THESIS: When you reject the source of truth, you will be consumed by lies.THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Matthew 13: 14-2314 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.15 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heartsand turn, and I would heal them.'16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”THE NEWS & COMMENT:People of the lie have rendered “hate” a meaningless word because they apply both everything--requiting Voter ID is “hate”--and then, turning on a dime, only subsets of the same thing. For instance, if a same-sex-attracted man kills other same-sex-attracted men, that is not “hate.” It only becomes “hate” when an intersectional ally group is harmed. People who are not of The Lie know better. If you walk into a business and start shooting innocent people that, in and of itself, is hateful. What The Party means, of coure, is was this particular, sinful hate due to the sexual orientation and so-called “gender identity” of the victims. Cops identify suspect in Colorado LGBTQ nightclub shooting; Colorado Police are still investigating whether the attack at Club Q was a hate crimeIs this “hate?” The number of people killed--many, in fact, murdered--under cover of The Party's Covid tactics now outnumbers in deaths some of the most tragic human-caused deaths in history. Worse, it appears the mRNA injections will continue to kill some and render others infertile. The “smartest people in the world” can't see this, because they have rejected the source of truth, so they have become The Lie. There has never been a mechanism described that would make the Covid Flu more deadly to people due to their ethnic heritage (although the CCP is almost certainly working on that). There are, though, comorbidities and age-related mechanisms for harm. Obesity, diabetes, lung disease and low Vitamin-D. These situations tend to be pronounced in black people. But, why be factual and contextual when you divide people? Pray for Sheila Jackson-Lee, a woman of The Lie.[AUDIO] - Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee claims there's a direct connection between slavery and disparities in Covid-19 deaths, suggesting "reparations" could have "cut Covid-19 transmission and infection rates."Is this hateful? It is injected people who are still getting Covid and passing it on. Watch: NBC News Advises Parents To Keep Kids Away From "Unvaccinated Individuals". . . it is also injected people who are now vulnerable to diseases their bodies would otherwise conquer, like RSV. How many doctors really don't know it's the injections causing this versus the ones who know--but are afraid to say--it's the mRNA? The People of The Lie work together:Deep state money supply: FTX, the collapsed crypto exchange, funded the “TOGETHER Trial” to discredit ivermectinThe smartest people in the world were stupid enough to believe this was not a scam. Or, were they scheming enough to shut-up and pretend it was real so they could make--and launder--money? . . . the smartest people in the world told us time and again the injection passports were a conspiracy theory. Funny thing about that . . . Biden promises world leaders US will strengthen 'digital COVID-19 certificates'; Under the 23rd section of the statement, the White House says that it acknowledges the importance of "shared technical standards and verification methods," and specifically states that it will seek to build on the "success" of existing standards and digital Covid-19 certificates. The NAZIs called it a “Gesundheitpass.” [AUDIO] - https://en.langenscheidt.com/german-english/gesundheitspassTwo bad actors, pun intended, talk to an actor who now runs Ukraine. This is meant to inspire us to unquestionably funnel even more money to Ukraine. And the world will look differently after we have gone through this transition process” Unelected elites have stolen your choices.. . . while we can see the results of the policies of people like Schwabb all around the world. I hope I never get to the point where I think I'm the smartest person in recovery and I can't learn from a newcomer or someone with less time than me. It is a fairly well known practice for oldtimers around 12 step meetings to tell newcomers to “shut their mouths and open their ears.” That's what my first sponsor told me all those years ago. I can't think of anything more disrespectful and potentially damaging to say to someone who is brand new in recovery. The newcomer is fresh off the playing field, maybe better described as fresh off the battlefield of addiction. Their perspective is raw and their need for connection and acceptance from the group is acute. We can't proclaim that we are praying for the alcoholic or addict who still suffers and then, when they show up in our rooms, tell them to sit down and shut up.

Charlie welcomes the new King of late night, host of "Gutfeld!" and cohost of "The Five," Greg Gutfeld for a conservation LIVE at Turning Point USA's Student Action Summit for a long-form conversation documenting Greg's success, and what it portends for the wider cultural moment we're all experiencing together. Greg begins by explaining why he believes his show has been so successful, why the snobs in Hollywood ignore him and act like he doesn't exist, and why the smartest people on the left like Joe Rogan, Matt Taibbi, Bill Maher, Glenn Greenwald, Russell Brand, and so many others are leaving the left. Greg also asks the entertainer's most profound question: Would you rather have an Emmy or an audience? Greg also gives his very practical advice for how young influencers and aspiring writers and entertainers can take the next step in their careers—and as one of the most successful people on television, you should listen (for the love of God, pronounce your Ts).Support the show: http://www.charliekirk.com/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
My first sermon at my Church! If you live near the Church or are in the area, come join us on Sunday Mornings at 10:30 am! We think we are naturally smart with knowledge. The phrase “Knowledge is Power” is popular in the world today. We think that the number of things we know, have memorized, or can recite with ease means that a person is smart. We look at the education people had, the level of success they had, and how well known and respected they are by other quote unquote “Wise” people. I searched up on Google “World's Smartest People” and these are some that were given based solely on their I.Q. People like Stephen Hawkins, Charles Dickens, Michelangelo, Plato, Galileo, Isaac Newton, and Leonardo Da Vinci. People hold these people (And many more) up because they are intelligent, wise, and well respected and known. People have forgotten that there is a vast difference between Wisdom and Knowledge. Believe in him (Believe that he died, was buried, and raised from the dead) The Bible says that as soon as we put out faith and trust in Jesus, God will forgive our sin and give us eternal life. Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” John 3:16“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Time is short, accept Jesus Christ now! Jarrod Knepp, Along with studying the Bible, will also be discussing various topics about politics, abortion, homosexuality, and what the Bible says about these and many other things. Jarrod Knepp speaks on how you can come to have an understanding of the Word of God, applying it to our daily life as well as looking at major world events and how they fit in line with the plan of God, as well as breaking down other religions and comparing them with Scripture and showing how they fail to Biblical Scripture. My guest today is Adam Quiney. Adam is an executive leadership coach specializing in working with the Smartest People in the Room. From love, Adam is connection, passion, presence, wit and brilliance. From fear, he is awkward, robotic, apathetic, irrelevant and arrogant. He's learned to embrace all these parts of himself, and works with others to do the same in their own lives. Living with his beautiful wife and their two dogs (one of which is a cat) in Victoria, B.C, he is a man on a mission to bring the world to a more inspired and fully-expressed place. His soon to be published book, “Who Do You Think You Are” shows people how to see the underlying light in all of us, and develop THAT, as opposed to fixing what occurs as broken on the surface. In this episode we dived into the truth that our Soul has a unique essence, which can be distilled consciously to help us to begin to express who we are from love. We explored how to find our Soul's gold and why our gold can be found in our shadowy wounds - because we often unconsciously express who we are as fear. We also explored some of the core essences that some of our Secret Witches may be - Magic, Power and Radiance. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Fundamentally at the heart of every human being is a set of ways of being; we each bring things naturally into the space - a bit like having a coloured lightbulb behind our heads that has a unique colour - and in this we can see our Soul, spirit, or essence. As babies we are just expressed as that essence, and then we learn that what is natural in us is not ok, and so we split from our Soul - it becomes somewhat of a minor trauma and we learn that who we are is too much or not enough. When we learn to split, we suppress who we are, and express it as fear, instead of love. We become Secret Witch, instead of fully expressed Witch - without realising, our Soul essence is who we are. If we are feeling that split from Soul, if we notice that something is missing from our essence - e.g. joy - it is because it is actually part of our essence. We can't miss something that wasn't there in the first place. There are polarities of these fearful expressions of our Soul - e.g. Magic can be hyper rational, or at the opposite end of the pole it can show up as escapist, like Peter Pan. We tend to swing between both ends of the pole until we do the work to fully embody our Soul's gold - our true essence - to be our natural selves, from love. When we do embody our Soul's gold, it is magical. It is important to have a guide for this, who can tap you on the shoulder and say “you're just a little bit too far to the left on the path, just come back to centre.” Really, all of this deep work is the alchemy of our Soul. Dear Friends❤❤, Hope you are doing fantastic. I wish you for your happy life
The best cookbooks are so much more than collections of recipes. They're windows into a life or a place or a time or a way of thinking. The very best cookbooks are all of these things at once. Black Food: Stories, Art, and Recipes from Across the African Diaspora is one of these rare books. Edited by author-activist Bryant Terry, and published by his new imprint 4 Color Books, Black Food is the work of more than a hundred chefs, artists, and scholars who contributed recipes, artwork, and essays to a book that is as visually stunning as it is thought-provoking. Think Toni Morrison's The Black Book (which served as a template for Black Food), but also think sweet potato leaves with eggplant and butter beans, and peach cobbler with nutmeg sauce. In this episode of Book Dreams, Eve and Julie talk with Bryant about the making of Black Food, his childhood experiences on his grandfather's urban farm, and his evolution from carnivorous high school athlete to vegan cookbook author. They also discuss the future of 4 Color Books and its mission to “push forward more diversity within the food system” by publishing visually arresting books by authors of color. Bryant is the author of six cookbooks. He's also a James Beard and NAACP Image Award-winning chef, educator, and author, renowned for his activism to create a healthy, just, and sustainable food system. Bryant is the Founder and Editor in Chief of 4 Color Books, a new imprint of Penguin Random House and Ten Speed Press. Since 2015, he has been the Chef in Residence at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco, where he creates public programming at the intersection of food, farming, health, activism, art, and culture. Bryant's most recent book, Black Food: Stories, Art, and Recipes from Across the African Diaspora, was the first book to be published by his new imprint and the most critically acclaimed American cookbook published in 2021. It landed on the Best Of lists of The New Yorker, Boston Globe, The Washington Post, NPR, Los Angeles Times, Glamour, and many other publications. San Francisco Magazine included Bryant among the 11 Smartest People in the Bay Area Food Scene and Fast Company named him one of Nine People Who Are Changing the Future of Food. Bryant's mentor, Alice Waters, says, “Bryant Terry knows that good food should be an everyday right, and not a privilege.” Find us on Twitter (@bookdreamspod) and Instagram (@bookdreamspodcast), or email us at contact@bookdreamspodcast.com. He is editor-in-chief of 4 Color Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House and Ten Speed Press, and he is co-principal and innovation director of Zenmi, a creative studio he founded. Since 2015 he has been the Chef-in-Residence at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco where he creates public programming at the intersection of food, farming, health, activism, art, culture, and the African Diaspora. His forthcoming collection of recipes, art, and stories entitled Black Food will be published by 4 Color Books/Ten Speed Press in the fall of 2021. In regard to his work, Bryant's mentor Alice Waters says, “Bryant Terry knows that good food should be an everyday right and not a privilege.” San Francisco Magazine included Bryant among 11 Smartest People in the Bay Area Food Scene, and Fast Company named him one of 9 People Who Are Changing the Future of Food. We all have a stake in a healthy, just, and sustainable food system. There should be space in these institutions to talk about these issues, to build a community around these issues."24:08 Bryant: "I want people to imagine activism outside of just on the ground, confrontational protests on the streets, or grassroots base building. And to be clear, those things are the foundation and the cornerstone of movement building. But everyone can't be in the streets like that."37:32 Koya: "I think it's so important that people understand that men and women and gender roles and things like that don't have to be. And we all have masculine and feminine energy and how if we nurture both of those sides of ourselves, we can really grow and thrive."42:54 Bryant: "One of the most important things which our family has been on the journey on is healing generational traumas and being aware that we so often pass down these traumas unknowingly just through the way that we live and not knowing that these are toxic behaviors."49:25 Bryant: "The cornerstone of this parenting model is that shaming, blaming, isolating, and punishing children, it doesn't work. It may work in the short term. If you have a kid and you're doing something and you shame, blame, punish, yeah it might stop that behavior but what it also does is it instills fear, it starts to chip away at their self esteem, it doesn't create empowered people who are gonna be empowered adults." 55:43 Bryant: "The more that we can do this introspection and recognize that these larger systems and histories have impacted the way that we interact with each other, I think it will get us closer to healing."58:15 Bryant: "An industrialized food system that's largely controlled by a handful of multinational corporations, we need to understand that so much of the way that the food is grown, the way that it's transported, the way that it's cooked, the way that it's presented to us, these are decisions that are made by a small handful of people."59:08 Bryant: "We need to be organized against capitalism. I'm just gonna say it. If people don't understand that capitalism is not like if I just work hard I can make enough money. Capitalism is about these institutions that are concentrating so much wealth and making so many decisions about these systems that we have to push back against them."Please leave a five-star review for the Get Loved Up Podcast. Pop culture has more than its fair share of geniuses. Practically any property or franchise you can think of has a resident intellectual; but which is the best? Who is the smartest of the smart? The panel today is looking at the Brains of the Operations, and we're listing our favorites. Following our Super Team Dynamics episode, where we touched on some of the common types of characters that often comprise teams, this episode is the first in a series we will regularly revisit where we explore each character archetype more in depth.
In this week's episode, Callie discussed what we should do if we are the most egotistical smart person in the room, or if we aren't and that behavior is making us feel bad about ourselves. Callie also dives into academic competition, self esteem, and the public school system to really show how our egos have been built up academically and why it might not be the best for us. Callie stresses the need to help others in the classroom who are struggling to break down our academic egos, or to focus more on ourselves if we find ourselves comparing ourselves to other students. We need to be able to help others in the classroom, and sometimes being separated by our intelligence isn't the best thing for us. Callie encourages listeners to remember to think clearly, and show others compassion when they don't get it.

In 2015, he was named the inaugural Chef-in-Residence for the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco. His newest book, Black Food, has just been released – a visual and spiritual feast of recipes, art, and stories from over 100 black cultural luminaries. Many know Bryant as the inspirational, artful, and inventive person that he is, trailblazing on many fronts from bridging the gap between black food and veganism in the cookbook space to exposing and celebrating the lost treasures and traditions of historical black culture .But behind all this, Bryant has experienced a personal journey that has enabled all this work to come to fruition. It's these life lessons and skills that we touch upon in this very authentic episode. You'll hear Bryant talk about how important it is to manage you, so you don't get in your own way, what his mom referred to as “blocking your blessings”. He also credits quiet in the sparking his potentiality at times when it laid dormant. And of course we talk about how he defines success. What I love most about Bryant is his keen self-awareness, and his unrelenting desire to show up in a way that resembles who he truly is in the purest sense. It's that uncompromising purity that touches so many. --More on Bryant:Bryant Terry is a James Beard & NAACP Image Award-winning chef, educator, and author renowned for his activism to create a healthy, just, and sustainable food system. If that wasn’t enough, she has also been named one of the “Top 26 Smartest People in Health IT” by Becker’s Report, ranked one of the “Top 25 Minority Healthcare Executives” by Modern Health care, and is recognized by the Med City News as one of the “Top 12 Powerful Women Voices in Healthcare Innovation and on Twitter.” Geeta and Donnica talk about what people can do to actually prevent coronavirus, and they discuss false information and “cures” that are being talked about. While there isn’t a magic pill you can take for the virus, there are a ton of basic things you can do to be safer. They debunk other myths that have been circulating about coronavirus. They talk about issues in the healthcare system. Often doctors are not allowed to step in until it’s too late. Rather than being able to help patients with preventative issues, doctors have to wait until something bad has already happen. Dr. Donnica asks the simple question “What would you do if you could give $30 to all of your patients?”
I found this to be a playful and impactful conversation about the strategies adopted to keep us safe and yet keep us from being fully expressed in the world. From love, Adam is connection, passion, presence, wit and brilliance. From fear, he is awkward, robotic, apathetic, irrelevant and arrogant. He's learned to embrace all these parts of himself, and works with others to do the same in their own lives. It's never too late to uncover more of who you are, reclaim what's been hidden and choose into desires. Also in this episode we touch on how the feminine and masculine energy shows up and what's for us when open to giving and receiving. Adam is an executive leadership coach specialising in working with the Smartest People in the Room. A former software developer and attorney, Adam’s learned the hard way about the costs that come from keeping your heart safe and chasing after external rewards to feel whole and complete. Living with his beautiful wife and their two dogs (one of which is a cat) in Victoria, B.C., He is a man on a mission to bring the world to a more inspired and fully-expressed place. To share your comments about this episode you can do so over on the When Women Speak facebook page ~ https://www.facebook.com/whenwomenspeakglobalnetwork or join the When Women Speak closed group (all welcome) ~ https://www.facebook.com/groups/whenwomenspeak. It's clear that COVID-19 will forever alter the way we view cities. On Tuesday's episode of Life Style Business,https://www.linkedin.com/in/brucekatz1/ ( Bruce Katz) and an all-star team from Louisville joined us to discuss urban development and the opportunity we have now to rethink how we develop Main Streets in a more inclusive way. Bruce Katz, Director of the Nowak Metro Finance Lab at Drexel University and co-founder of https://www.thenewlocalism.com/ (New Localism Advisors), promotes inclusive and sustainable growth of cities in all his work. Bruce shared his thoughts on how now is the time to rebuild cities with a greater focus on inclusive solutions. He shared that the “smartest people in the room are local” - and we should listen to those who know their cities best, while also fostering “a new interplay” between bottom-up and government initiatives. Bruce also reflected on the potential of https://www.thenewlocalism.com/newsletter/needed-main-street-regenerators/ (Main Street Regenerators) that can help rebuild the economy of any downtown, whether urban or rural. He conveyed that the combination of local and government collaboration will create both “product innovation and institutional transformation” with the hopes of this crisis resulting in a more equitable, civic-minded society. We were then joined by community builder https://www.linkedin.com/in/gillholland/ (Gill Holland), in addition to https://www.linkedin.com/in/mariah-gratz-067b223/ (Mariah Gratz) and https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashlyn-ackerman-134a8612/ (Ashlyn Ackerman) from http://weylandventures.com/ (Weyland Ventures), who are all leaders working on redeveloping the Portland neighborhood of Louisville. They shared the importance of historic preservation, green space, and “work-live-play” developments, especially in a COVID-19 world. Portland is the midst of a $35M project that will develop 22 acres in the neighborhood, and projects including a sculpture garden have continued through this shutdown period. Key Takeaways from Tuesday's Episode: We are at an important moment where we can create “replicable, actionable, scalable” strategies that will reinvigorate Main Streets across the country, which will be essential to the rebuilding efforts. Making sure there is room for bottom-up solutions will help us rebuild cities that are stronger than before. We will need to be intentional about community-building as evidenced by the success of places like Louisville, as community gatherings will remain an important part of neighborhood life, even in a new way. https://www.youtube.com/c/LaunchPadlptv (Life Style Business) is every Tuesday and Thursday at 12pm PT/ 2pm CT / 3pm ET via https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZidpquY3Ra-IBZ4_ie8WTg (Launch Pad TV). We have a real treat in store for you today with a truly remarkable changemaker and NY Times bestselling author as our guest.Acumen Founder and CEO, Jacqueline Novogratz, has been named one of the 25 Smartest People of the Decade by the Daily Beast, and one of the world’s 100 Greatest Living Business Minds by Forbes, amongst numerous other honours. Jacqueline pioneered the notion of 'patient capital', investing in social entrepreneurs around the world. Acumen supports them to establish sustainable businesses that serve some of the world’s poorest people. What makes this episode a particularly fascinating one is that all this work with entrepreneurs has taught Jacqueline and her team so much about what it takes to succeed when trying to create change. And now she’s also just released a new book sharing what it takes to be a changemaker. It's called Manifesto for a Moral Revolution (and there’s a free course too if you buy the book). In this episode you’ll hear: How her early attempts at social change in Africa seriously failed to impress the locals; What she learnt about humanity when she became one of the first people to visit in jail someone she’d known well who’d gone on to become a major perpetrator in the Rwandan Genocide; How Jacqueline sees investment as a means to solving problems rather than making profit as the primary goal; and ….How she’s seeing women entrepreneurs successfully breaking the rules particularly now during the coronavirus crisis. This week's show is with my good friend Adam Quiney, Adam is an executive leadership coach specializing in working with the Smartest People in the Room. A former software developer and attorney, Adam's learned the hard way about the costs that come from keeping your heart safe and chasing after external rewards to feel whole and complete. So in this episode, Adam and I dived deep into a conversation around standing and BEING coach and leader in our relationships (friendships, romantic relationships, etc.), what that looks like, how it relates to being vulnerable, how flipping difficult it can be and why it's even a game worth playing. We also share some of our own recent screw-ups and successes (some of which are possibly the same thing)!

Adam shares his journey from practicing lawyer to being an executive leadership coach, revealing moments of shame, stubborn self-opinion, and what it was like to reveal aspects of himself he had been trying to hide whilst also wanting to be seen. Having invested in a lot of work on himself, Adam has an important message for aspiring coaches, as well as bringing his humour and humility into a wonderful conversation that touches on many aspects of the coaching profession, including embellishment. Here's a little more about Adam: Adam is an executive leadership coach specializing in working with the Smartest People in the Room. Dating is a strange exercise. You want to believe that your partner looks at you with googly eyes and thinks the best of you. However, when we actually ask our partner how they view us, the answer might not be what we anticipate. And that can mess with our heads. It definitely messed with mine. This week's show is with Adam Quiney, Adam is an executive leadership coach specializing in working with the Smartest People in the Room. Adam's clients don't simply change; they transform their lives and the way they show up in world, creating massive impact in their relationships, companies, and families. They go from being natural born leaders that create followers, to transformational leaders that create leaders. Adam brings the concision, skills and brilliance that he honed in his previous careers as a project manager and a lawyer. His clients include lawyers, doctors, executives, world-class designers, olympic athletes, financial professionals and CEOs across North America and Europe. A couple of surprising facts about Adam: He trained with the founders of popping, locking, waving, tutting, and various other funk styles and he's played a card game called Magic the Gathering since it first started, and owns the most powerful card ever printed. It sells for around $4,000 when in mint condition. To Adam it's priceless, because it's his gold medal in the nerd olympics. Adam's a self-confessed straight up nerd and I think that's got a lot to do with why he and I get on so well. This conversation is a part 2 to the last conversation Adam and I talked about spectrums of being - another way to describe it is our essence, that unique beauty and power that is there within every one of us. That show was a brilliant one so if you haven't already listened to it, I'd very much encourage you to do that straight away! I'm in the process of doing the exercise that Adam suggested as the end of that show and it's blown my mind how much I'm discovering about myself and how others experience me. I'd love to hear if you try that exercise and what you find out about yourself. So in this show, we explored 'zones of excellence' which are the ways that we've created to enable us to operate in the world whilst we're not able to fully be and express our unique essence. This was another episode that was full of laughter and insight - I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it! What you'll learn from this episode: Adam described our zones of excellence as the strategies we've constructed to either hide or improve on our essence. We typically create our entire lives and especially our careers on our Zones of Excellence. We typically have a lot riding on our Zones of Excellence which makes it particularly challenging for us to identify and to grow out of them. We create these Zones of Excellence usually based on events that we experienced as children when it was shown to us that our Zones of Genius or our unique essence weren't fully acceptable or desirable and therefore weren't safe to be. We avoid the break-through because we don't want the break-down. We don't want to give up 7/10 in case we never get it or better again. But the capacity is there for all of us to discover and to be our true selves, to be 10/10.
