““You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 NLT.
Audio: Peace with God and this world Over the last few weeks Coronavirus has been on the rise. Every day more and more cases are being reported and we are hearing about more tragic deaths. In the midst of this, the one key thing that keeps me firmly anchored is my faith in God. I […]
Audio: Practical tips Over the years I have had my share of depression. Sometimes it was due to other health conditions taking their toll on me and sometimes it was from depressing events in life. My depressive episodes ranged from being suicidal for weeks at a time in the worse times, to being extremely flat […]

Audio: Jesus went, so must we Today for my devotions I looked at two passages from Matthew. Matthew 9:35-38 and Matthew 28:18-20. Matthew 9:35-38 NLT – Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of […]
Audio: Love, actions and truth For my devotions today I read two passages that both spoke to me and reminded me. The first was 1 John 3:16-19… [16] We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and […]
“For my devotions today I read two passages that both spoke to me and reminded me of the importance of looking after each other. The first was 1 John 3:16-19 and the second is James 2:14-17
Audio: Instructions of the Lord I love the Bible. I love reading it and studying it. Reading the Bible most days for more than 30 years has changed my life for the better and it has slowly been renewing my mind. Today in my devotions I read a passage from Psalms 19. It says… “The […]
I have added a new podcast sermon to my website today. It is titled, “The eternal Jesus who calls us to live in the light”. It is based on 1 John 1. You can find the full text on our sermons page, or you can listen here. Blessings, Dave
Today I am starting a new sermon series on the books of 1, 2 & 3 John. Over the coming weeks, I will be looking at one chapter a week for my sermon and I will be pulling out the main points. The title of this message is "The eternal Jesus who calls us to walk in the light".
This week we are continuing our series from the Book of Philippians. We are up to chapter four, which is our final message. The title of my message is “Be content to live in Christ’s strength and provision”.
The title of my Christmas message this year is “The Child with Four Amazing titles”. Now in the Bible we see that Jesus is given many names. All of these names refer to some aspect of who He is and what He does. He is given names like the King of kings, the Lord of all lords, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Alpha and the Omega, the Lamb of God, the Bread of Life. He is also called the way, the truth and the life. In today’s Christmas message I want to look at one verse from the Old Testament in the book of Isaiah. This verse was written some 700 years before the first Christmas, but it was written about Jesus. The verse comes from Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6. It says, “For a Child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” In this verse the baby Jesus is given four amazing titles. Today, I want to look briefly at these titles...
Today we are continuing in our series from Philippians and we are looking at chapter three. The title of my message is “The priceless value of knowing Christ”.
We are going to continue with our series of messages from Philippians. This week we are up to chapter two and the title is, “Shine brightly with the attitude of Christ”.
This week I want to start a new series of messages based on the Book of Philippians. Over the coming weeks I want to look at one chapter a week and work our way through. The title of my message today is, “Living wholeheartedly for Christ”. It is inspired by the Apostle Paul’s attitude in chapter one.
The title of my message today is “Serving Jesus from a place of rest”. This message has been on my heart for the last few months. I touched on our Bible reading in the December newsletter and it has been building since then. All of us know what it is to be busy, some of us know what it is to be too busy. We experience busyness of life and work, the busyness of kids and school, the busyness of church and serving in volunteer roles and some even experience the busyness of retirement. Rather than winding down, retirement for some is a winding up! We all probably know what it is at times to feel like we are two steps behind our bodies. This is how my Mum described the tiredness of working 35 years as a night shift nurse. Today I want to share this message as a new year is upon us and many of the things we do are starting to wind up. So before all the rush begins I want us to stop and reflect on the call of Jesus that is found in today’s reading.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, "If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me." This verse was written to the people of God in a time of exile and captivity. They were in a foreign land, under foreign rule. But God spoke to them of a time of blessing and restoration. It is in the same chapter as the well known verse that is on bookmarks, t-shirts, cups and Bible covers. Verse 11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
We added five new MP3s for listening or downloading. One is sermon length and the rest are short devotional thoughts. You can find them on our audio page or below. Five reminders from Paul (Ephesians 2:1-10) Lost and Found (Jeremiah 29:13) Encourage and live well (Titus 2:6-7) Two fixes for stress and anxiety (1 Peter 5:7 & 2 […]
The title of my message today is “Five reminders from the Apostle Paul”. I am continuing my series of messages from the Book of Ephesians. In chapter one we see that Paul really set the scene of who they are in Christ, what they have and who Paul prays they will become. In chapter 2:1-10 Paul gives the church five reminders for the Ephesians that I think can encourage us today.
Hi all, my sermon from today is now online. It was titled, “Paul’s heartfelt prayer for the Ephesians”. I made six points from Ephesians 1:15-23. You can find the text here and PowerPoint here. The audio can be found here. Blessings, Dave
In the next section we move on to Paul’s heartfelt prayer for the Ephesians. Hence, the title of my message. This is the first of two prayers Paul records in this book. The first is found in Ephesians 1:15-23 and the second is found in chapter 3 verse 14-21.
Hello all, I recorded a sermon for podcast today. It was one I did several years ago for the church I was Pastor of. On the day we had a problem with our sound recording software. As a result I have been meaning to re-record it for my website. The title is “Four lessons from […]
Matthew 22:34-40 NLT – But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. [35] One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: [36] “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” [37] […]
There is an interesting passage in Matthew 11 that I really enjoy reading. It is a short prayer that Jesus prayed in verses 25-30. It says… 25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank You for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, […]
In the Book of Acts 5:12-16 there is a section titled, “The Apostles healed many” in the Bible. It says… “12 The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade. 13 But no one else dared to […]
In Acts 2 there is a section of Scripture that talks about a new community of believers that formed after Christ returned to heaven and the Holy Spirit came. It talks about the things they focused on and the results. Acts 2:42-47 – All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, […]
Over the last few weeks I have been doing my morning devotions from the Book of Ephesians. I have really enjoyed looking back into one of my favourite books of the Bible. I have been working my way through the major headings. The first heading is “Spiritual Blessings in Christ” and as you can see I have picked out three of the blessings we have in Christ – Chosen, Redeemed and Sealed by God.
In the beginning of the Book of Joshua God told Joshua six important things to do. This happened just after Israel’s great leader Moses had died. Joshua 1:1-9 – After the death of Moses the LORD’s servant, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, 2 “Moses My servant is dead. […]
The title of my message today is “WDJDWI – What did Jesus do when interrupted”. Today I want to look at two passages from the Bible where Jesus was interrupted and how He responded. What the need was, what He did and the result. We have all heard that saying WWJD – What would Jesus do?
For my first sermon at Bruce Rock Church of Christ as Pastor I decided to look at Romans 12. I titled my message, “5 things to help us be a living sacrifice”. The key verse was Romans 12:1. It says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your […]
