You'll discover the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, an event that stands as one of the most verified in history, and how understanding this power is crucial for living a life anchored in faith and purpose. Throughout this episode, you'll hear compelling evidence and testimonies of those who, like the Apostle Paul, longed for a personal, experiential relationship with Christ that stretches beyond mere head knowledge. This includes inspiring stories of transformation, such as that of Little Rattlesnake, whose life changed dramatically upon embracing Jesus Christ personally. Whether you are a believer seeking deeper spiritual insight or someone curious about the power of the resurrection, this episode offers a fresh perspective on what it truly means to live a life of faith in Jesus Christ. Join us for a thought-provoking lesson that challenges and encourages listeners to seek a life-changing relationship with Christ.

Scripture References: Philippians 3:1-11; Acts 9:15-16; 1 Peter 3:18; John 17:3; Ephesians 2:13; Revelation 21:1-3Intro:Context: Philippians 3, Paul writing from prison.Focus on Paul's radical transformation: From Saul, the zealous persecutor who jailed/oversaw the killing of Christians, to Paul, the apostle jailed for Christ. What could cause such a complete reversal? (Think: converting core beliefs/loyalties). Paul had a direct encounter with the risen Christ (Acts 9). His conversion wasn't just religious affiliation; it was a fundamental shift.Key Points:Conversion 1: From the Ladder of Legalism to the Cross of Christ (Phil 3:4-9)Paul lists his "blue-chip" credentials (circumcised, Israelite, Benjamin, Hebrew, Pharisee, zealous persecutor, legally righteous). He had maximum "confidence in the flesh."He counts all this previous "gain" as "loss" and "rubbish" compared to the value of knowing Christ.Contrast: The "Ladder" mentality (perform well = acceptance; fail = rejection - exemplified by the coach clip/ "American way") vs. The "Cross" reality (righteousness comes not from our works/law, but through faith in Christ's work for us). This Gospel truth needs constant repetition ("It's safe for you," v. 1) because we naturally revert to the ladder.Conversion 2: From Life FOR/FROM God to Life WITH God (Phil 3:8, 10-11)Paul's driving desire wasn't just duty for God or benefits from God, but intimacy with God: "that I may know him," "gain Christ," "be found in him."What the Gospel achieves (forgiveness, eternal life) are vital, but they are means to the ultimate end: knowing and being with God Himself.Forgiveness isn't just wiping a slate; it cleanses to bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18). Eternal life is knowing God (John 17:3).Analogy: Seeking spousal forgiveness – the true goal is restoring connection/relationship, not just easing guilt or getting perks. The ultimate question shifts from "Who wants benefits?" to "Who wants God?"God's Desire: Life WITH YouGod's primary goal isn't just making us morally better, but bringing us relationally closer (Eph 2:13). He desires communion.Consider God's attractiveness: Humble (Incarnation), Serving, Loving (sacrificially), Redemptive (meaning in suffering), Powerful (Resurrection).Does God want me, even knowing my failures? The Cross is the definitive YES. He takes us "as is," confident in His power to heal and restore. He sees, knows, loves, moves towards you.All history points toward God dwelling with His people (Rev 21:3).Conclusion:These conversions—rejecting legalism for grace, shifting from performance/benefits to relationship—aren't one-time decisions but ongoing processes. We continually need to recognize the "ladder" in our hearts and choose the Cross, choose life with Him.Call to Action:Acknowledge the need for these conversions again today.Consciously choose the Cross over the ladder.Seek life with God, not just for Him or from Him. Recognize His desire for you.Remain in His love (Jude 21) – that relational space is where you truly belong, wherever you go. Support the show*Summaries and transcripts are generated using AI. What is the most valuable thing that you have? I realize that is a loaded question which can go in many directions because we all have valuable things that we cherish, preserve and protect. But if you were to boil it down to THE most important thing what would that be? In our passage today, the Apostle Paul dives deep into explaining that our relationship with Jesus is worth everything and more valuable than anything. Philippians 3:4-8a – Surpassing Worth of Knowing Christ
In Philippians 3:8, Paul reminds us that nothing compares to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. He once prized his status and achievements, but now counts them as loss—even rubbish—compared to gaining Christ. True faith means treasuring Jesus above all else, even at great cost. Is Christ truly our greatest treasure? From our Sunday service at Grace Bible Church of Bend.*Note from Pastor Phil: I accidentally gave the wrong verb tense of "counted" at min 19:16-19:31. The verb tense is "perfect" and not "future." The application and statements after that are correct for the "perfect tense," but I wanted to correct this mistake for any Greek students/scholars who were confused. It was an honest mistake of the wrong thing written in my notes that did not get caught until after I preached this during 2nd service and realized the error.

Knowing Christ means I have a new identity (vv.1-6) Knowing Christ means I have new values (vv.7-11) Justification - Righteousness (v.9) Sanctification - Power (v.10) Glorification - Hope (v.11) Home Church Questions1. Our passage is about knowing Christ. How would you explain to someone what it means to know Christ? What are some ways knowing Jesus is similar/different from other relationships we have? 2. In Phil 3:1-6, we learn that knowing Christ means we have a new identity. How should a person's identity change when he/she comes to know Christ? What are some ways a person's identity might stay the same? What has this looked like for you? 3. In vv.5-6, Paul gives a list of reasons why he would have more reason for confidence in the flesh than others. If you were to have confidence in the flesh, what are some items that would be on your list? Do you wrestle with putting too much confidence in the flesh? Explain. 4. In Phil 3:7-11, we learn that knowing Christ means we have new values. In vv.7-8, he says the things he used to consider as gain he now considers as loss. What are some of the “gains” in your life that you consider to be valuable? Are there any “gains” in your life you should re-evaluate so that you value them in a healthier way? 5. Paul says he considers everything as loss compared with the surpassing value of knowing Christ (v.8). What does he mean and how can he say this? Can you say this? 6. Jesus has surpassing worth because we can be justified and made right with God through Him (v.9). Was there a time in your life when you were moved by this truth that God provides the righteousness He demands? 7. Jesus has surpassing worth because we can experience the power of his resurrection even in our sufferings (v.10). How can we identify with Jesus when we suffer so we experience this power? Have you experienced this? 8. Jesus has surpassing worth because we experience the hope of future resurrection through Him (v.11). Why does having this hope of future glorification motivate us to value Jesus now? Pray for the Unreached: The Ansari are a Sunni Muslim group in India, historically weavers and textile sellers, now involved in various businesses. Many live in poverty and face illiteracy, though some have contributed to education and politics. Known for their hospitality, they offer opportunities for believers to share the gospel. Recent efforts have seen some Ansari families come to Christ, but they remain largely unreached. Pray for Indian believers to reach out with love and share the gospel with Ansari families and leaders, revealing to them the love and hope only offered through Christ.FinancesWeekly Budget 35,297Giving For 02/09 36,524Giving For 02/16 19,506YTD Budget 1,164,806Giving 1,152,806 OVER/(UNDER) (12,000)Men's Muster 2025 A car out of alignment is harder to steer, wears down faster, and wastes fuel. Philippians 3:1-11Louis Tamburro What are you trying to pursue and achieve in life, that you think will bring you deeper joy in life? Today's text is about knowing and pursuing Jesus as a far more stable joy, than anything else we're building our lives on. Paul says if you want to get into heaven and build your life on something that's stable, then you need to know Christ and build your life on Christ. You need to make it your greatest goal to know Jesus deeper than you currently know him. The deeper you know Christ, the deeper your joy will be in life.
Today, Ray, E.Z., and Mark are joined by Nathan W. Bingham, Vice President of Ministry Engagement at Ligonier Ministries and host of Renewing Your Mind. The distinction between knowing about God and truly knowing Him is essential. While God has revealed Himself to all creation, saving knowledge of Him is unique and transformative. Many, even within the church, worship a god of their own making, mistaking it for the one true God. This can complicate evangelism, particularly in places like the United States, where cultural Christianity often obscures genuine faith. In the Bible, even Samuel initially did not recognize God's voice, highlighting that knowing God is not merely about religious activity but a personal relationship.Knowing God transforms the heart and life. It doesn't mean constant bliss but includes trials and suffering that refine faith and draw believers closer to Him. When life is challenging, believers can rest in the promise of a loving Heavenly Father who walks with them through every valley. Trusting God's sovereignty and goodness allows us to cast our cares on Him, knowing He works all things for our good. Even discouragement and repentance reflect God's work in our lives, urging us to leave sin and run to Him.The best way to know God is through His Word. Scripture provides an objective foundation, revealing God's character and attributes, such as His holiness, love, grace, and justice. Modern Christianity often emphasizes God's love while neglecting His holiness—the only attribute in Scripture raised to the third degree. Isaiah's vision of God's holiness revealed his own sinfulness, reminding us that even our best deeds fall short compared to God's perfection. A proper understanding of God's holiness compels repentance and awe.Salvation rests solely on faith in God's promises, rooted in His grace and mercy. Knowing Christ is central—misunderstanding Christ means misunderstanding the gospel. God's sovereignty assures us that He doesn't merely try to save; He saves. This truth offers comfort, as everything God does is holy, good, and trustworthy. Though we don't know what tomorrow holds, we know God's character and can rely on Him. To grow in knowing God, immerse yourself in Scripture. Meditate on His Word, where God reveals Himself fully. A life transformed by truly knowing the Lord reflects His holiness and glorifies Him.Send us a text Thanks for listening!
