High performance and faith often collide, leaving you spiritually exhausted. In this episode, Julie Holly reveals how to move from doing for God to walking with Him — and why your worth was never in your work, but in His workmanship.High performers don't usually think of themselves as performers — especially in faith. But for many, excellence in leadership has quietly merged with striving in spirituality. In this week's Sunday Vertical Integration episode, Julie Holly helps high-capacity humans uncover the difference between doing for God and being with God. Through Matthew 11:28–30 (NLT) and Psalm 127:1, she reframes the exhaustion so many faith-driven achievers feel — the weight of devotion turned into duty. You'll discover how to separate obedience from overextension, and how recalibration restores your ability to lead with peace, not pressure. This episode speaks directly to the high performer's hidden fear: that slowing down might mean losing their edge.As Julie shares from her own story — replacing communion with contribution, and learning to rest inside God's delight — you'll realize that intimacy with the Sovereign isn't measured by what you produce but by how much room you give Him to be with you. This isn't mindset work or productivity theory. It's Identity-Level Recalibration — the root-level alignment that makes every other spiritual, emotional, and leadership tool finally work again. You'll walk away with practical, faith-centered insight for burnout recovery, spiritual exhaustion, and decision fatigue — anchored in one truth: You were never called to perform for God, only to partner with Him.Today's Micro Recalibration:“If I believed the Sovereign already delights in me, how would I lead differently?”Let that question become your quiet leadership audit today. When you lead from delight, peace becomes your power.Semantic Keyword Clusters Included:high performance, burnout recovery, decision fatigue, success fatigue, role confusion, spiritual exhaustion, identity misalignment, identity drift, belonging, faith-based leadership, presence over performance, grace, stewardship, peace, leadership recalibration, wholenessNamed Entities Referenced:Jesus (Matthew 11:28–30, NLT)Psalm 127:1 (NLT)If this episode gave you language you've been missing, please rate and review the show so more high-capacity humans can find it. We talk about why less is more, how to reduce noise, chaos, and distraction in the modern world, the value of a hard day's work, what we can learn about human behavior through good horsemanship, and why good men ride good horses. Podcast Title: Faith When You're Tired: Finding Rest and Renewal in a Weary WorldHosts: Greg Richter and Laura J. AxelrodOpeningBrief welcome and introduction of topic: “We're talking today about what to do when you feel just plain tired — not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally tired from everything happening in the world.”Acknowledge the collective fatigue many believers feel.Segment 1: Naming the WearinessShare a personal story or recent moment when you both felt overwhelmed by the news or world events. Middle East/perpetual issue, Russia/Ukraine, other hotspots, US political climate, divisive Talk about how even faithful Christians can grow discouraged.Scripture connection: 1 Kings 19:4–8 — Elijah's exhaustion and God's gentle response.Key idea: God meets us in our weariness, not after we've “pulled it together.”4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O Yahweh, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”5 He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat!”6 He looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again. 7 Yahweh's angel came again the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”8 He arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, God's Mountain.Segment 2: Rest as a Command, Not a LuxuryExplore Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11:28–30 — “Come to me, all who are weary…”Discuss the biblical concept of Sabbath — trust, not laziness.Share how you each find spiritual rest: prayer walks, unplugging, worship music, journaling, etc.28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”Segment 3: Faithfulness Over Fixing the WorldDiscuss how easy it is to feel guilty for not “doing enough.”Recenter around Micah 6:8 — act justly, love mercy, walk humbly.Encourage focusing on small, faithful actions: caring for neighbors, showing kindness online, mentoring others.Reflection question: “What's one area where we can serve with peace instead of panic?”He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?Segment 4: Hope in a Tired WorldScripture: 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 — “Though outwardly we are wasting away…”Discuss hope as an anchor, not an escape — believing that God is still writing history.Share personal ways you renew hope: worship, fellowship, gratitude lists, remembering answered prayers.16 Therefore we don't faint, but though our outward person is decaying, yet our inward person is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory, 18 while we don't look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. ClosingSummarize main takeaways:Weariness is part of being human.Rest is a spiritual practice.God calls us to faithfulness, not omnipotence.Hope is alive because Christ is.Scriptures are quoted from the World English Bible. This guy gets it: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1370076668014225Greg Richter is an award-winning journalist and unapologetic theological gadfly, exploring where faith, culture, and curiosity collide. Today, I'm honored to welcome Jon Seidl, author of the brand-new book Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic: A Candid Conversation on Drinking, Addiction, and How to Break Free — that released today!Jon is no stranger to hard stories. You may know him from his first book, Finding Rest: Navigating the Valleys of Anxiety, Faith, and Life, where he opened up about his journey with OCD and anxiety. But in this conversation, Jon takes us even deeper into what he calls “Act Two” of his story — the part he never saw coming. In today's episode, Jon shares how a successful Christian author, husband, and father found himself face-to-face with alcoholism — and how God met him there in the mess. He talks about the shame, the hiding, the healing, and the radical grace that doesn't leave us where it finds us.This is a conversation about obedience that doesn't always make sense, about following God even when it costs something, and about discovering that His grace truly is more radical than we ever imagined. If you or someone you love is walking through addiction, shame, or the battle to be free — this episode is a reminder that you are not alone, and that God's redemption reaches all the way into our broken places.Bio:Jonathon M. How surrender and divine intimacy bring freedom and spiritual completeness.Summary: We reflected on God's perfect sufficiency in Christ, the source of true rest, love, and salvation. Through Scripture, we explored how believers are called to lay down self-sufficiency and receive God's love through the Spirit's drawing. The message emphasized that salvation is not earned but received by grace, and that growth comes from continually coming to Christ. We discussed the contrast between Adam's fall and Christ's redemptive authority, the permanence of God's Word, and the call to surrender fully to divine love. The meeting concluded with a heartfelt invitation to accept God's yoke—resting in His freedom, truth, and unchanging presence.Themes:Sufficiency is found only in Christ, not in self (2 Corinthians 3:5; Philippians 4:19)God's love draws through conviction and grace, not fear (John 6:44; Romans 8:9)Christ's sacrifice covers past, present, and future sin (John 1:1–18; Romans 8:28)True freedom comes from surrendering to God's love and order (Matthew 11:28–30)Divine love is unconditional, limitless, and transformative (John 3:16; Romans 5:8)Salvation and growth are ongoing responses to God's invitation (Philippians 2:12–13)The believer's identity rests in Christ's finished work, not in external authority (Ephesians 1:3–7)God's Word is permanent and unchanging—proof of His love (Isaiah 40:8; John 17:17)Spiritual rest is found in yielding to God's will and walking in His Spirit (Hebrews 4:9–10; Galatians 5:25)God's love invites intimacy, not performance—relationship over religion (1 John 4:18–19)Scripture References: Matthew 11:28–30; John 1:1–18; John 6:44; Romans 8:9, 8:28; Philippians 4:19; 2 Corinthians 3:5; Ephesians 1:3–7; Philippians 2:12–13; Isaiah 40:8; Hebrews 4:9–10; 1 John 4:18–19Reflection Question: Am I resting in Christ's sufficiency and love—or still striving to earn what God has already freely given through His Son?
In a world filled with pressure, noise, and distraction, Jesus invites us to find true rest—not just for our bodies, but for our hearts. Drawing from Proverbs 4:23 and Matthew 11:28-30, Ps Roger shares how guarding your heart and coming to Jesus brings renewal, peace, and strength for life’s journey. We reflected on our spiritual identity as strangers and pilgrims in this world, called to fix our focus on Christ rather than earthly distractions. Through scripture and discussion, we were reminded that Jesus, fully divine yet clothed in humanity, became the spotless sacrifice to reveal God's unfailing love. We explored how sin is a choice of the will, but true freedom comes when we submit to God's will, cast our burdens on Him, and trust His eternal plan. In the end, we found assurance in His love, His preparation for us, and the reminder that our lasting rest and treasure are only in Christ.Themes:We are strangers and pilgrims, called not to settle here but to live for Christ (1 Peter 2:11)Jesus, though outwardly unimpressive, was inwardly perfect and pleasing to the FatherGod's unfailing love assures us that if He is for us, no one can be against usSin is a choice of the will, but submission to God brings true freedom (1 John; Romans; Genesis)Casting burdens on the Lord brings peace and endurance in life's race (Psalm 55:22; Hebrews 12:1)God's plan is not about earthly greatness but about eternal life with HimTrue Christianity is intimacy with Christ, finding rest in His love (Matthew 11:28–30; 1 Corinthians 13:12)We are the church, not a building, and are kept safe under Christ's authority (Revelation 2:17)Looking away from distractions helps us run our race with eyes fixed on JesusGod's personal love shapes us like diamonds, preparing us for eternityScripture References: 1 Peter 2:11; 1 John; Romans; Genesis; Psalm 55:22; Hebrews 12:1; Matthew 11:28–30; 1 Corinthians 13:12; Revelation 2:17

From the seven types of rest to the freedom of belonging in Christ, this conversation will inspire you to live authentically, embrace God's presence, and lead from a place of renewal rather than exhaustion.
This week Pastor Andrew reminds us that even in the crazy times we can find rest in the Lord Jeremiah 6:16 Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.'
In this episode of Beyond I Do, Adam dives into the biblical principle of Sabbath rest and why it's essential for marriage, family, and personal faith. From God modeling rest after creation in Genesis to Elijah's story of exhaustion and divine renewal, we're reminded that rest is not laziness—it's obedience. This conversation challenges us to examine our own rhythms of work and rest. Are we simply taking days off, or are we cultivating true Sabbath—spiritual rejuvenation, family connection, and intimacy with God? On this episode of The Make, we welcome longtime friend and pastor Brad Prunty for a heartfelt conversation about life, ministry, and the rhythms that lead to lasting transformation. From college days in the late ‘90s to Brad's journey planting and merging churches in Chicagoland, Trevor and Brad reflect on friendship, humility, and building a culture where everyone has a seat at the table. Brad also unpacks the creation of Trailhead, a system designed to help people pursue spiritual, physical, mental, and relational health while avoiding the “false summits” of life. Filled with laughter, memories, and wisdom, this episode is about surrender, consistency, and finding true rest in Jesus.
We gathered in prayer, lifting up needs within our church family and giving thanks for God's presence in our community. Together, we reflected on the importance of trusting the Lord with all our hearts, learning to depend fully on Him rather than leaning on our own understanding. We considered how submitting to Christ breaks enemy attachments and brings true rest for our souls. We were reminded of the role of older men in teaching, the humility required to live in obedience, and the call to receive God's word with meekness—even when it corrects us. The evening closed with gratitude for God's provision, both spiritually and practically, and with renewed encouragement to walk together in love, accountability, and prayer.

I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 68:19 – “Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms.” Matthew 11:28 -- “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Hebrews 4:14-16 – “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
When the unexpected circumstances of life catch us by surprise, it's easy to morph into “go-mode” - an analogy today's storyteller knows all too well. Allyson Mouron, from our community group in Mountain Brook, Alabama, shares her journey of faith and trust in Jesus as she struggled with infertility and then the sudden loss of both her father and her best friend. Through brokenness, hardship, and pain, Allyson reminds us the importance of learning to let go of control and find rest in surrendering to the One Who controls it all. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: - The safest and easiest place to be is a place of surrender. - Rest and peace are found in refocusing your mind. - You are called to only do two things - love God and love others. You know, Jesus promised that for all who came to him, he would give them rest. But in today's society, where overworking is the new norm, most of us hear Jesus' invitation as wishful thinking.
Today we begin our teaching series titled, Rest & Distraction. In this short series, Pastor J.D. will show us that those most mature in Jesus are not those working hardest for him but those resting most in him.
In a world that prizes hustle and constant productivity, breaking the habit of hurry can seem far-fetched. Yet we still try to achieve it with life hacks to get more sleep and increase energy. However, self-help strategies are not the solution to our exhaustion problem. Today, Eryn Lynum joins me to talk about what it looks like to move away from the hurry and toward the rest that God has for us. This episode will be balm for your soul!
