Six Things the LORD Hates: Psalm 129-131, Proverbs 6, and Sirach 1 by Shawn Ozbun
Have you ever stood in the kitchen at 7:14am holding two odd shoes and a half-made sandwich, wondering whether it's Wednesday or Thursday? It’s no secret that I’m a hot mess. And mornings (and the 35,000 micro decisions we need to make by 9am) are always extra messy. So if you've ever been late to the meeting that mattered because morning-you wrote the wrong start time in your head, or your screen time number scares the shit out of you, or you've already snapped at someone you love before the day has even started, this one is for you. The secret? Stop trying to fix your morning. Fix your night. In this episode I share the six night-before rituals I follow, because morning me cannot be trusted. The handover document, the launchpad, and the toast I refuse to make. In this episode: - The day I was an hour late to the Steph Pase Planners Zoom that broke me — and the rules I made because of it - 35,000 micro decisions by 9am: the science behind why your brain is exhausted before you've even started the day - Ritual 1: Outfit prep with the labelled hangers (and the 6pm weather check) - Ritual 2: Lunches 80% prepped (the alternative is the KFC drive-through, ask me how I know) - Ritual 3: The launchpad + the life pouch (which was originally an SPP tech pouch I made) - Ritual 4: Same brekkie every single day (overnight protein Whip-Bix because I hate toast) - Ritual 5: The brain dump → handover document for your future self - Ritual 6: The 15-minute increment alarm hack (and why "shaping" in psychology beats willpower) - The two-step rule (pulled from S2E7): if it takes more than 2 steps, redesign it … Episode Links: Shop the Life & Tech Organiser Pouch: https://www.stephpaseplanners.com.au/collections/tech-organiser-pouches Steph’s Amazon Storefront: https://www.amazon.com.au/shop/justanothermummyblog/list/17TTU785IMM53 … Follow Stephing Up I’m Steph Pase, your (somewhat) organised bestie in your ears. When we chant Haṛe Kṛṣṇa, we hear Haṛe Kṛṣṇa, and we perhaps take some time every day to chant individually, otherwise known as japa, or mantra meditation, it's possible that we could take it for granted or any of the other aspects of devotional service. I've read about monks who have been in a monastery for many years, and they have midlife crises where they start questioning their practice after so many years. And we often see that when people first come to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, they feel extremely fortunate because they realize the contrast between where they've been and what they've walked into, which is a spiritual environment. But when you are in the spiritual environment for a long time, unless you're conscientious about it and careful in the environment, then it's possible to either feel entitled or take it for granted, which may be the same thing or related as cousins. And at the same time, it is also completely possible to stay awake to one's good fortune of being in the practice of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. There are various qualities that Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī, our main Ācārya, or teacher for Kṛṣṇa consciousness from 500 years ago, recommended—12 in all. He had given them in "do's and don'ts." He recommended that we are careful about atyāhāra, which literally means overeating, but it also means over-collecting, getting involved in collecting things that are not necessary, and working very hard for worldly things that distract us from our main interest in life, which is to utilize our time to become conscious of Kṛṣṇa. Atyāhāraḥ prayāsaś ca prajalpo (NOI 2)... He says, "I'm giving you the 'not-to-do' list." You may have a "to-do" list somewhere with you tonight or in your car at home, right? But you can also have a "not-to-do" list. It's equally as important. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #nottodolist #spiritualhabits #habits #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Are you confident your retirement plan covers everything, or are there blind spots that could cost you down the road? In this episode of the Retirement Made Easy podcast, I reveal six commonly overlooked areas that can quietly sabotage even the most well-intentioned retirement strategy. From inflation shocks and healthcare surprises to tax missteps and market overconfidence, I'll walk you through the pitfalls I see time and again so you can learn how to avoid them. If you want a retirement that's not just comfortable but resilient, this episode is a must-listen. My goal is to walk you through these areas so you can strengthen your own plan and avoid costly mistakes. Today, I break down six critical areas that often get overlooked in retirement planning. First, I highlight the importance of preparing for large, irregular expenses. Second, I stress the impact of inflation, reminding listeners that costs will rise steadily over time and must be factored into any long-term plan. Third, I caution against assuming past investment performance will continue, urging retirees to prepare for market downturns with a solid strategy. Fourth, I explain how tax planning (especially Roth conversions) can significantly reduce your lifetime tax burden if done thoughtfully. Fifth, I dive into healthcare planning, noting that Medicare isn't free and doesn't cover everything, so understanding your coverage and out-of-pocket costs is essential. Finally, I emphasize the importance of proper beneficiary designations and asset titling to avoid probate issues and unintended consequences after death. Together, these six areas form the foundation of a resilient, well-rounded retirement plan. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... (00:00) Intro. (04:20) How to handle large, unexpected expenses on a fixed income. (09:25) Does your retirement plan include inflation? (13:30) Do you have realistic expectations for your investment performance? (17:02) Tax Planning is Retirement planning. (20:06) Healthcare planning impacts your retirement. (23:17) Beneficiary planning and asset titling. The Real Cost of Your Living Expenses in Retirement Many people focus on monthly bills but often overlook big-ticket items, such as a new roof, HVAC system, or vehicle. These costs don't happen every year, but when they do, they can derail your financial stability if you haven't planned. I share real examples from clients who face these challenges and emphasize the importance of building flexibility into your retirement budget to handle these inevitable expenses. Next, I highlight inflation's impact on your retirement. The pandemic shows us how quickly prices can rise. I recall replacing our water heater and seeing the cost jump 150% in less than two years. Inflation affects everything: healthcare, insurance, groceries, and dining out. Your retirement plan must include realistic inflation projections, as costs are expected to continue rising year after year. Planning for Market Pullbacks and Tax Surprises Then I turn to investment performance. Over the past decade, the stock market has performed exceptionally well, and many people assume that trend will continue. But that's not realistic. At some point, the market will pull back, and retirees need to be prepared (mentally and financially). I stress the importance of having a strategy in place before a downturn hits, so you don't panic and make decisions that hurt you long-term. Tax planning is another critical area. Your income strategy in retirement should align with your tax strategy. Roth conversions allow you to move money into accounts that grow tax-free and aren't subject to required minimum distributions. Timing and planning are everything here. Getting Healthcare and Legacy Details Right I also discuss healthcare planning, which many people misunderstand. Medicare isn't like your employer's health insurance, and it doesn't cover everything. Healthcare costs will likely be one of your biggest expenses in retirement, and you need to understand what's covered, what's not, and how to prepare for unexpected medical bills. Finally, I wrap up with beneficiary planning and asset titling. This is one of the simplest yet most overlooked parts of retirement planning. I've seen too many cases where someone passes away and their assets aren't titled correctly, or beneficiaries aren't listed. The consequences are taxes, probate fees, and emotional stress that fall on the surviving family. These are easy fixes that can make a huge difference. I urge everyone to take the time to get them right. Now that you know these six areas, you're better equipped to build a retirement plan that truly works. Hi beauties! It feels so good to be back from maternity leave. So much has changed since our last episode of 2024 – my daughter Jade has made her arrival and we're all adjusting to being a family of four. When I went on maternity leave, I chose to take a 6-week break from social media so I could really soak in this chapter in our family's life. I learned so much in my time away from social media, and I wanted to kick off the first episode of 2025 on the six biggest benefits I experienced from being offline. After a career spent on the internet, it was amazing to see what being offline did to my sense of creativity, my ability to engage with more long-form media, and my relationship to time. I'm excited to be back on Instagram and TikTok with some new limits, but most of all I'm excited to be back behind the mic.Support Austin and John, who lost their home in the LA fires Shop my recommendations from this episode Find Naked Beauty at Credo Rate, Subscribe & Review the Podcast on Apple Thanks for all the love and support. How much will the American people get to know about the people Donald Trump is choosing to run the U.S. government? In the absence of any real vetting the way it's supposed to go, Rachel Maddow presents a Rachel Maddow Show Public Servant Announcement to hopefully help fill that gap with a closer look at Trump's choice for U.S. ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, from his dubious business dealings to his dearth of relevant experience.
