Carrie Turansky discusses her book 'A Token of Love' and the historical background of the Foundling Hospital in London. The book is a dual time story set in 1885 and present day, exploring themes of love, truth, and justice. Turansky weaves together the stories of a historical heroine searching for her niece who was abandoned at the Foundling Hospital, and a contemporary heroine working at the Foundling Museum who uncovers present-day issues of human trafficking. The book incorporates faith elements and offers a message of hope without being overly dark or heavy.

The sisters sent a message to Jesus, saying: “Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.” When the word concerning Lazarus reached Jesus, he said: “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” Jesus remained where he was for two days, and at the end of that time said to his disciples: “Let us go into Judea again.” His disciples replied: “Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee. And goest thou thither again?” Jesus answered his disciples, saying: “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of the world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.” Then Jesus told his disciples why he wanted to go into Judea, saying: “Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.” The disciples, not knowing that Jesus meant that Lazarus was dead, thought only that he was resting in sleep. This is not something we take for granted and appreciate our listeners so very much. In this episode, we speak to Robert Althuis the author of “Never Enoughitis” and “Love and Truth'. Robert spent many years in corporate America building and leading businesses across the globe, he had the perfect wife, kids, and careers, at least that is what he thought until that all disappeared, and his real life began. In our conversation, Robert shares how moving from Holland to America was his dream, to have it all, and then recognize how that was all a game. A game that man plays and how he describes his journey from living in his head to living from his heart, and how once you see, you can never be unseen. He educates us about the secret sauce of love and how conditional love is an emotion whereas real love is an energy. That love energy has intelligence, and consistency to it. He also speaks to the male archetypes and shadow sides of the male and why we need the feminine power to harmonize with the masculine. Fascinating how he describes the shadow side and the corruption of man, and that the 3 pillars are: women, money, and power, how that is abused but in a healthy state there is no abuse, that women are honoured, money is shared generously and power is used for good. His parting gift is for women to move beyond the need for male recognition and know their worth, to right their own rules. I can't tell you how often I have felt lost in my life. This was a very long period in my life and I didn't have anyone to help guide me from the dark times that would come and go throughout my days. I felt completely stuck. I was not awake or aware during this time of my life. • I would struggle with my businesses. • It was hard to maintain healthy relationships. • I kept having health issues. • I was always in a state of stress or worry. I was unhappy most of the time and depression would eek in and out of my days. When I had the little wins in my life, I acted like I was elated, but I felt a void or that something was lacking in these wins. Since I know I'm not alone in the way my life used to be, I wanted a guest on Guided Spirit Conversations who can raise the shade and bring insight and light to this state you may be challenged with. This week's guest is Robert Althuis. Robert seemed to have it all. He went to an Ivy League school. He was a senior executive at GE, and later a very successful entrepreneur, real estate developer, and founder of an investment firm. Yet, something was missing. He would get what I call a ‘tap on the shoulder from spirit,' but he didn't listen until his life fell apart. His marriage failed as did his business. His life was in crisis. It is time for a bit of a New Year's Truth Bomb. Why? Because not only do I see areas in my own life that I live paralyzed by fear, but I know many of you do too. Especially as I open enrollment for Mealtimes Made Easy on January 19th, there is a sense of false security that comes from operating out of self-preservation and self-protection. We can't fail at what we don't ever try. But there is no freedom in that. And, as many of us know, it becomes nearly impossible to move the needle forward in our goals when we live in this kind of inaction. That's why, in this episode, we talk about excuses we make from a place of fear versus the discernment we gain from a place of wise decision making. I also share some examples from my own life where I have seen the fruit of moving past my old excuses and taking action to become more disciplined. Also, as I talk about in this episode, there are many reasons as moms that validate the need to say "no." But also, there are so many reasons why January's ambitions don't continue on to be a journey year after year after year.
