Alright, alright… we admit it. We’ve been totally off our game lately, and this one came out way later than we had hoped for, but exactly when we’d predicted. But, we don’t talk about the show in the show notes so move along now… This week, we speculate a bit about what makes a movie good for the theater, whether movies have gotten worse in spite of the surprising number of great movies that came out in the last year, and if movies on the average are getting more average. We talk about the overall moviegoing experience and what might help to make it better. We also briefly touch on some snacking strategies, some sneaky theater tricks for increasing revenue, and reveal a deep, dark secret about JP’s movie-going habits. We then discuss an absolutely insane trans-continental race that involves a ridiculous amount of speeding across the country in a little over a day and a half. JP shares a bit about one of his New Year’s Resolutions — to learn Japanese. Steve learns nothing.

Boy! What a week. JP and Steve talk about a lot of things, including the new Star Wars movie... although they don't spoil it, really, they do make some great spoiler horn noises. The conversation moves from holiday plans and what we both got as presents into JP asking Steve about whether or not he feels brands are necessary... and wow, did he step on a landmine! We get into talking about Apple, whether or not they were successful without Steve Jobs, how the brand continued through the Next era and into the return of Steve Jobs, and whether or not Apple is still innovating. Spoiler: One of us says yes, and the other is skeptical. YOU'LL HAVE TO LISTEN TO KNOW WHO!

If this feels like two podcast episodes rolled into one, it kind of is. The computer crashed in the middle of recording so we had to recover some data, reset, and start over... but the second half has a great surprise. Hoot Hoot! We talk about something good we saw, or read, or listened to in the past few days that we enjoyed. It really rolls off the tongue. No, but really — we talk about our favorite thing we did/watched/read in the last three days.

This week, we talk about what it means to not only be the hero in our own story, but also the small and insignificant parts we play in other peoples’ stories. Why do we tend to forget that everyone around us has an complex and interesting life? We also talk a lot about empathy, and question why it’s easy for us to empathize with some emotions and not others. For example, at least for us, it’s harder to empathize with an angry person than a sad person. We talk a bit about Inside Out. If you haven’t seen it, please do. It’s very good.
