Chapter 1:Summary of Mindset"Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" is a book by psychologist Carol S. Dweck, published in 2006. It explores the concept of mindset, which Dweck defines as the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. The book introduces two contrasting types of mindsets: the fixed mindset and the growth mindset.1. Fixed Mindset: In a fixed mindset, individuals believe their abilities, intelligence, and talents are just fixed traits. They have a certain amount and that's that, which can create an urgency to prove oneself over and over. Individuals with a fixed mindset are more likely to avoid challenges, give up easily, see effort as fruitless, ignore useful negative feedback, and feel threatened by the success of others.2. Growth Mindset: Conversely, in a growth mindset, individuals understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching, and persistence. They believe everyone can get smarter if they work at it. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Individuals with a growth mindset are more likely to embrace challenges, persist through obstacles, see effort as a path to mastery, learn from criticism, and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others.Throughout the book, Dweck provides evidence from her research to show how adopting a growth mindset can lead to personal and professional success. She illustrates her points with examples from education, business, sports, and relationships to show how the mindset can deeply influence our behavior and our outcomes.Dweck also provides practical advice for fostering a growth mindset, including understanding and controlling our reactions to challenges and setbacks, being mindful of praise and criticism, interpreting them in a growth mindset framework, and choosing environments that prioritize growth and learning.Overall, the book emphasizes that the mindset we adopt profoundly affects the way we lead our lives, suggesting that by changing our mindset, we can gain more control over our success and fulfillment.Chapter 2:The Theme of Mindset"Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol S. Dweck is a non-fiction book that explores how the mindset we adopt can significantly influence various aspects of our personal and professional lives. Unlike a novel or story, this work focuses on psychological concepts and research rather than plot points or character development. Instead, it provides crucial insights into two primary mindsets: the fixed mindset and the growth mindset. Below are key ideas and themes from the book:1. Fixed Mindset vs. Growth Mindset:- Fixed Mindset: People with a fixed mindset believe that their abilities, intelligence, and talents are static traits which cannot change significantly. They tend to desire to appear smart always, therefore might avoid challenges, give up easily, ignore useful feedback, and feel threatened by the success of others.- Growth Mindset: In contrast, individuals with a growth mindset believe that they can enhance their abilities and intelligence with effort and dedication. They tend to embrace challenges, persist through obstacles, learn from criticism, and find inspiration in others' successes.2. Effects in Different Areas of Life: Dweck discusses how these mindsets influence various domains including education, sports, business, and relationships. For instance,- Education: A student with a growth mindset might approach challenging subjects with determination, whereas one with a fixed mindset might avoid subjects where they don't initially excel.- Work: In professional settings, employees with growth mindsets often innovate and push the boundaries of their abilities, while those with fixed mindsets might stick to what they know best to avoid the risk of...

– Merle Liisu Lindma Kuulake ikka ...

Professionals are often told – and mostly convinced – that networking is good for their careers. However, the challenge is plugging the knowing-doing gap. How can people build and manage their networks more effectively? What makes individuals more or less motivated to network? In this podcast, Ko Kuwabara, Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD, explains how mindsets can affect peoples' motivation to network. He discusses networking through the lens of a growth vs. fixed mindset – a concept popularised by psychologist Carol S. Dweck. He also discusses how as the modern workplace becomes increasingly diverse, a growth mindset can help members of an organisation better embrace diversity.

Då gillar man utmaningar. Allt hänger ihop i någon mån.

Då gillar man utmaningar. Allt hänger ihop i någon mån.

The Season 4 opener features a conversation with Dr. Alaina Johnson, a clinical psychologist and a mother of three creatively-driven boys. Alaina is the author of the book Parenting Talent: The Grown-Up's Guide to Understanding and Supporting Creatively-Driven Teens and Tweens and she is the head of a practice by the same name specializing in coaching others and speaking and advising on the topic. The combination of Alaina's professional background in psychology and personal experience with her three, creatively-driven boys, has enabled her to connect the dots between the science of adolescent development and the experience of young adolescents with certain creative talents, which, importantly, are not just innate traits that, some kids have just been lucky to be born with. In part one of their conversation, Alaina and Jason talk about her inspirations for writing the book, which include her own creatively-driven boys as well as a noticeable gap in information for parents like her to know how to understand and support them, what talent really means and the level of effort it requires among youth to actualize it, how the developmental changes in early adolescence affect youth in the creative arts in specific ways, including the development of identity and dealing with the many emotions that stem from vulnerability, and the evolution of young people's awareness of their own ability to affect the world and their place in it.In part two, they talk about how parents and families can engage with creative teens and tweens in the most supportive and effective ways, including when and how to communicate, keeping pace with their rapid development to be in sync with what they need at their age and stage of development, and some of the particular issues the current generation of youth are faced with. We also talk about Alaina's next steps in helping others understand and support their own creative teens and tweens at home.Additional Readings and ResourcesParenting Talent: The Grown-Up's Guide to Understanding and Supporting Creatively-Driven Teens and TweensParenting TalentHaimovitz, Kyla, and Carol S. Inspired by the groundbreaking work of psychologist Carol S. Dweck. In this episode, we explore the dynamic interplay between two distinct attitudes that shape our approach to challenges, achievements, and personal growth.Understanding the Two Main Mindsets:1. Fixed Mindset:   - Individuals believe their abilities, intelligence, and talents are fixed traits, inherent and unchangeable.2. Growth Mindset:   - Individuals believe their abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, hard work, learning, and perseverance, fostering a belief in continuous improvement.Navigating Challenges:-Fixed Mindset:  Tends to avoid challenges, fearing failure as a reflection of inherent inability.- Growth Mindset:  Embraces challenges as opportunities for learning and skill development.View of Effort:-Fixed Mindset:  Views effort as fruitless, associating hard work with a lack of natural talent.-Growth Mindset:  Sees effort as a path to mastery, understanding that consistent hard work contributes to improvement.Response to Setbacks:-Fixed Mindset:* Interprets setbacks as a direct reflection of ability, possibly leading to giving up in the face of adversity.-Growth Mindset:* Views setbacks as temporary, integral to the learning process, bouncing back from failures as opportunities to learn and adapt.Feedback Reception:-Fixed Mindset: Less receptive to constructive criticism, viewing feedback as a judgment on inherent abilities.-Growth Mindset: Open to feedback, seeing it as valuable input for improvement, separate from personal worth.Mindset in Endurance Sports:- How does your mindset influence your approach to training, racing, and overcoming challenges?Exploring Mindset and Training:- Examine your attitude toward training and the importance of a growth mindset in embracing challenges.Mindset on Race Day Performance:- Can your mindset differ on race day?- How a growth mindset contributes to resiliency, adaptability, and perseverance during racing.Overcoming Setbacks and Challenges:- Address the inevitable setbacks and challenges faced in endurance sports.- How a growth mindset can lead to bouncing back, learning from failures, and continuing to progress.- Dive deeper into the concept of mindset by reading "Mindset" by Carol Dweck https://www.amazon.com/Mindset-Psychology-Carol-S-Dweck/dp/0345472322/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=mindset&qid=1702243512&sr=8-3

As a dear friend and accomplished attorney, Mark Wight has always astounded Steve with his strength and tenacity. Despite operating in a smaller community of Meridian, Idaho, Mark's practice has flourished against the odds, transcending the typical limitations of a competitive legal market. Mark's journey is a testament to the power of maintaining a growth mindset, and his ability to appreciate progress, no matter how seemingly insignificant, is genuinely inspirational. In this episode of Great Practice, Great Life, Steve and Mark navigate the fascinating concepts illuminated in Carol Dweck's book, where the growth mindset goes head-to-head with a fixed mindset. They reflect on their personal experiences and how these mindsets have shaped our professional evolution. The legal profession requires constant learning and flexibility, so they dissect how maintaining an open mindset is crucial. They also delve into the fear that can sometimes hinder this openness and how to battle the beliefs that fuel this fear. Moving forward, Steve and Mark explore the concept of a growth mindset as a secret weapon for lawyers. By acknowledging and embracing their triumphs and their struggles and missteps, they open themselves up to real, meaningful progress. They conclude by shedding light on the importance of understanding the value of what you offer in marketing and sales. It's not about pushing a product or service; it's about genuinely helping people solve problems. Join Steve and Mark in this insightful conversation, and be ready to learn, grow, and redefine your mindset. In this episode, you will hear: The importance of a growth mindset in the legal profession, with guest attorney Mark Wight, who built a successful practice in a small, competitive community A reflection on personal experiences and the impact of growth versus fixed mindsets on professional development Exploring fear as a barrier to an open mindset and strategies to overcome limiting beliefs Why you should embrace both triumphs and struggles as part of personal and professional growth The concept of a growth mindset as a secret weapon for lawyers, enhancing their competitiveness in the legal market The value of genuinely helping people solve problems in marketing and sales, as opposed to pushing a product or service Advice from Mark on coaching other lawyers, understanding the value of professional services, and maintaining a patient, open mindset Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. It's all about perspective. Whether you're facing a business challenge or a physical one, having the right mindset can determine how successful you are. In fact, studies by Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck have shown that the power of mindset lies in whether you have a fixed or growth mindset.A fixed mindset is the belief that you are who you are, and nothing can change that. This encompasses a level of intelligence, talents, and creative abilities. When you have a fixed mindset, it may lead to feelings of failure if you don't think you are smart enough or capable enough to handle the obstacles that you will inevitably face as a business owner.A growth mindset, on the other hand, is the perspective that you can continue to learn and adapt to different situations that may arise. Even if you fail, you tend to learn from those failures and turn them into future successes. People with growth mindsets are curious and actively seek to keep learning, a characteristic that is necessary for success. While a growth mindset is more conducive to a successful business, it's not always easy to change your mindset. The first step in changing how you view yourself and the world around you is identifying what limiting beliefs you may have that are holding you back.Tune in tomorrow for more on how to handle limiting beliefs. For more help with dealing with limiting beliefs, download my complimentary Are Your Limiting Beliefs Stopping You from Achieving Your Goals? 2. If you're like me there are many, both big and small, that come to mind, such as changing out a bunch of lightbulbs at our house. Much of this comes down to discipline.
