Weekly sermons from Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at the University of Nebraska. At RUF we believe that you're never so bad that you're beyond the reach of God's grace and at the same time you're never so good that you're beyond the need of God's grace.
Acts 9. Often in the gospels, whether they realize it or not, people come to Jesus in deep need. Jesus gets to the heart of things, and offers what they need most, and he does the same with us. Our series for the semester is Encountering Jesus, a look at how Jesus addresses our deepest needs. This week, we look at Jesus' encounter with Saul, and see how His Light changes us. We, like Saul, need the Light of God to shine in our hearts. And even though Saul's conversion is very dramatic and flashy, there are several themes that we can grasp onto today that help us understand how God works. From our Thursday Night Fellowship on October 17th, 2024.
John 2. Often in the gospels, whether they realize it or not, people come to Jesus in deep need. Jesus gets to the heart of things, and offers what they need most, and he does the same with us. Our series for the semester is Encountering Jesus, a look at how Jesus addresses our deepest needs. Do we come to the Temple for God, or for what we can get from God? This week, we look at Jesus cleansing the Temple. We consider how Jesus can drive out our impurities, making us truly authentic and clean. From our Thursday Night Fellowship on October 10th, 2024.
John 9. Often in the gospels, whether they realize it or not, people come to Jesus in deep need. Jesus gets to the heart of things, and offers what they need most, and he does the same with us. Our series for the semester is Encountering Jesus, a look at how Jesus addresses our deepest needs. This week, we look at Jesus and the man born blind, and how Jesus heals his sight. In this passage, "spiritual sight" and "physical sight" are very closely tied. We see how we are all, in a sense, born spiritually blind, and Jesus is the only remedy for this. From our Thursday Night Fellowship on October 3rd, 2024.
Luke 19:1-10 Often in the gospels, whether they realize it or not, people come to Jesus in deep need. Jesus gets to the heart of things, and offers what they need most, and he does the same with us. Our series for the semester is Encountering Jesus, a look at how Jesus addresses our deepest needs. This week, we look at Jesus and Zacchaeus, and how Jesus offers Zacchaeus kindness before he gets his life together, and before he has any chance to prove himself. In the same way, God saves us in his incredible kindness, and offers us real joy and real change. From our Thursday Night Fellowship on September 19th.
John 4: Often in the gospels, whether they realize it or not, people come to Jesus in deep need. Jesus consistently sees that need, and offers what they need the most. And he does the same with us. Our series for the semester is Encountering Jesus, a look at how Jesus answers our deepest need, too. Jesus meets with this woman at the well in John 4, and offers her Living Water that will never run dry. Jesus offers our thirsty souls that same living water. From our Thursday Night Fellowship on August 29th.
