¿Quién no desea tener amigos?

Tune in as we pay tribute to the incomparable Roberta Flack, who we sadly lost last month. From her 1969 debut album First Take (featuring Open Studio artist Ron Carter on bass) to her iconic collaborations with Donny Hathaway – we dissect why what Flack didn't play was just as important as what she did. We'll explore how this classical piano prodigy, who entered Howard at 15 and didn't write her own songs, became the Quiet Storm Queen that influenced every soul, R&B, and jazz singer since. You'll hear why her understated yet commanding vocals and that classic 70s kick drum made “Killing Me Softly” a hit, grooving duets like “You've Got A Friend,” and deep cuts that redefined ballads. Join us to uncover the genius of Roberta Flack.

Devotion - 1 Samuel 20 / You've Got a Friend in Me by Community Lutheran Church
In this episode, Rabbi Feigelson discusses the importance of friendship and teamwork, drawing comparisons between famous fictional characters like Hermione Granger and Buzz Lightyear. These characters symbolize the idea of friends as true teammates — people who help us accomplish things we never thought possible. He then reflects on how these friendships relate to Parker Palmer's fifth habit of the heart: the capacity to create community. ~~~~ Soulful Jewish Living: Mindful Practices for Every Day is a production of Unpacked, a division of OpenDor Media, and the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. We all need the kind of friendships in our lives that will shield us, strengthen us, and shape us into the person God created us to be. In this message, Pastor J.D. shows how Jonathan's friendship with David modeled this kind of friendship and how friendship with Jesus enables us to be to others this kind of friend—healthy, complete, trusting, and forgiving.
In this message from 1 Samuel, Pastor J.D. looks at one of the greatest friendship stories of all time—between the presumptive heir, Prince Jonathan, and the anointed king, David. This unlikely friendship challenges us to choose our own response to the one true King, Jesus. Will we, like Saul, resist him? Or will we, like Jonathan, yield the throne of our life to him?

Pastor Nichole Schreiber and Pastor Danielle Frano discuss the relationship between Old Testament prophets Elijah and Elisha and examine the power of being a committed friend in the conclusion to our YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND series.
Nothing kills courage faster than criticism. You need friends around you to encourage you through the hard times, just as you need to be an encourager to others. Pastor Nichole Schreiber is joined by Pastor Daniel Brooker to discuss how Barnabas encouraged those around him, and we see what God can do when we encourage one another.
Biblical friendships are all about being connected to the right people before we are faced with difficult challenges. Pastor Nichole Schreiber and Pastor Kahyla Collazo continue our series, YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND. They examine how pressure situations don't only reveal our own character, but they also reveal the character, faith, and strength of those closest to you.
Do you have someone in your life who will tell you the truth, even when you don't want to hear it? Not only do you need one in your life, and odds are, you need to be one for someone else. Winter, spring, summer, or fall... all you have to do is call, and Strong Songs will be there with an in-depth analysis of one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century. This episode takes a deep dive into Carole King's ever enduring, much-covered tribute to friendship, "You've Got a Friend." What starts in Laurel Canyon in the early 70s spread outward to the world, thanks to King's revolutionary 1971 album Tapestry. 50 years later, those songs are still with us, and "You've Got a Friend" remains one of the most meaningful tributes to simple, platonic love.
