September 2, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 17 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers initial signings of practice squad players and how one new outsider makes for an intriguing addition. Alex and I also discuss the Steelers initial 53-man roster remaining the same as we head into Wednesday. CB Joey Porter Jr. met the media on Tuesday and that was his first such session in quite a while. We go over several quotes from Porter and then take another deep dive into his contract extension situation. Alex and I discuss how Porter is really in between a rock and a hard place right now. We also discuss the few options he has moving forward until the regular season gets underway. The Steelers have a long-standing rule of not negotiating contracts once a regular season gets underway. With that being a known fact, Alex and I go over when that rule was put into place and why. We also discuss whether it is indeed archaic and not a benefit to the team in today's NFL landscape. Alex and I discuss the given reasons for ILB Elandon Roberts being cut on Sunday and how the team supposedly has not completely shut the door of him being a Steeler again at some point. We also discuss S DeShon Elliott starting the regular season on the Reserve/Injured list and the reason that GM Omar Khan gave on Monday for that move. Later in this show, Alex and I discuss a few other things that Khan and HC Mike McCarthy have said over the course of the last few days. This 81-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. August 31, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 16 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers establishing their initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season on Sunday. Alex and I make sure to discuss the surprising release of ILB Elandon Roberts on Sunday in addition to the Steelers trading OT Broderick Jones and RB Kaleb Johnson. We also go over the removal of CB Joey Porter Jr. from the Active/PUP list on Sunday as well as the team placing S DeShon Elliott and OL Jack Driscoll on the Reserve/Injured list as designated to return players. Rookie undrafted free agent DL Kevin Jobity Jr. made the initial 53-man roster on Sunday, so Alex and I discuss that accomplishment and it being a bit of a surprise. We also discuss whether Jobity might wind up on the practice squad by Week 1 should the Steelers not need to move DL Sebastian Joseph-Day to the Reserve/Injured list. The Steelers ultimately kept all four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, so we discuss that in addition to three other NFL teams keeping four quarterbacks as well. Will the Steelers add a veteran safety to their 53-man roster in the coming days? What about another tackle? Alex and I address those two questions during this show. The Steelers will now start the process of putting their initial practice squad together, so Alex and I discuss a few players that figure to land on that part of the team that were jettisoned on Sunday. August 28, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 15 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the preseason finale that the Pittsburgh Steelers played Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills. We go over several players sitting out the preseason finale in addition to giving our initial overviews and main takeaways from that road loss to the Bills. The Steelers restructured the contract of WR DK Metcalf since our last show, so Alex and I go over the details related to that transaction. We also discuss how the Metcalf restructure is any sort of guarantee that the team will soon sign CB Joey Porter Jr. to a contract extension and why that is. Steelers HC Mike McCarthy gave us a few things to talk about during his Thursday night postgame press conference, so Alex and I pick over those replies. We obviously focus in on what McCarthy said Thursday night about the possibility of all four quarterbacks ultimately making the 53-man roster come Sunday night. Could the apparent head injury that QB Will Howard sustained Thursday night lead to him being placed on the Reserve/Injured list to start the season? We go over the plausibility of that happening and whether we think it ultimately will. Are DT Sebastian Joseph-Day and S Jaquan Brisker each a candidate to start the regular season on the Reserve/Injured list? We entertain that question during this show as well. As usual, Alex and I give our initial thoughts on the play of several Steelers players in the team's preseason loss to the Bills. We start with the quarterback play Thursday night of Howard and Drew Allar and go from there. We discuss all of the offensive position groups and that includes discussing the play of rookie OT Max Iheanachor against the Bills. Has he given himself a chance at being the Week 1 starting right tackle? We attempt to answer that question. Alex and I also go over the play of several players on the defensive side of the football from Thursday night. We go over a few roster spot battles on defense. We also make sure to talk about some special teams play from Thursday night and we make sure to highlight the punt return for a touchdown by Kaden Wetjen as part of that discussion. The Steelers will need to set their initial 53-man roster by Sunday night so ahead of that happening, Alex and I give previews of what are final predictions will look like. We discuss how several final roster spots could go in various directions and especially if any players go to the Reserve/Injured list that could put a fly in the prediction ointment. Alex and I talk a little bit more about the latest on Porter Jr. and his contract negotiations ahead of the Steelers having until Sunday evening to remove him from the Active/PUP list. This 118-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we make sure to answer several listener emails to close out this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing latest transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers. We also go over the known health of the team as they prepare to play their 2026 preseason finale on Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills. With there being a lot of rumblings concerning Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. over the last few days, and especially with some of those coming from mainstream NFL insiders, Alex and I take a deeper dive into his situation. We discuss how this coming Sunday is a big day when it comes to Porter and mainly due to him still being listed on the Active/PUP list. We discuss how far away the Steelers might be from getting a contract extension done with Porter at this point and if there are any chances that team could ultimately trade him. After thoroughly discussing the situation with Porter, Alex and I talk about a few players that seem to be on the proverbial roster bubble heading into the team's preseason finale. With both of us having now completed our latest 53-man roster predictions as of Wednesday morning, we go over each of them. We discuss the few differences that we have with our roster predictions and why. Alex and I start winding down this episode by going over several players and things we think deserve being watched closely Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Bills. August 24, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 13 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing several key things that Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike McCarthy had to say during morning media session. The Steelers are planning to have rookie OT Max Iheanachor practice on Monday, so we discuss the possibility of him making his debut Thursday night in the team's preseason finale. McCarthy also said that DB Jalen Ramsey is set to practice on Monday as he is being removed from the Active/PUP list. We also pass along the seemingly good health of several other players that have been dealing with injuries coming out of the weekend. On Monday, McCarthy refused to confirm that QB Will Howard will definitely make the 53-man roster this year, so Alex and I discuss that tidbit. We also talk a little bit about McCarthy telling the media on Monday that the team is currently at an impasse with CB Joey Porter Jr. when it comes to contract extension talks. The Steelers made several transactions on Monday morning, so we go over what those moves detail. In the middle of this Monday show, Alex and I get into our full all-22 recap of the Steelers' second preseason game against the New York Jets. We start that off by discussing the two interceptions that Howard threw against the Jets and the role that WR Roman Wilson seemingly played in both of them. We also discuss the mistakes that Howard seemed to make on both of those interceptions. As part of us discussing those two interceptions, we drill deeper into translating what McCarthy had to say about both of those plays. After breaking down the Friday night play of both Howard and QB Drew Allar, Alex and I discuss whether four quarterbacks being kept on the 53-man roster appears to be an almost lock at this point. Alex and I then work our way through discussing the play of the starting offensive line on Friday night against the Jets. After discussing several offensive position groups, we recap all of the position groups on defense and that includes highlighting the play of several players on that side of the football. Should the Steelers be looking for another wide receiver with three weeks remaining before the regular season starts? Should they be genuinely concerned with the seeming lack of development that Wilson has made so far? We attempt to address both of those questions during this show. Later in this show, Alex and I discuss the Cleveland Browns naming Deshaun Watson as the team's starting quarterback on Monday. This 83-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

August 22, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 12 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Saturday morning show, Ross McCorkle sits in for Alex Kozora and we start things off by talking loosely about the Pittsburgh Steelers preseason loss to the New York Jets Friday night. Ross and I go over the long list of players that sat out the Steelers second preseason game and why. Ross and I then start getting into our deeper dive of Pittsburgh's shutout loss to the Jets on Friday night and we begin with going over the play of the offensive line and the positional rotations that we both observed. We discuss how Dylan Cook now appears to be the easy choice to be Steelers Week 1 starting right tackle on the heels of have poor Broderick Jones played against the Jets. Obviously, Ross and I don't wait too long to get to the play of the two quarterbacks Friday night, Will Howard and Drew Allar. We go over the two costly interceptions that Howard threw against the Jets and how WR Roman Wilson certainly seemed to play a role in both of them. As part of us discussing those two interceptions, Ross and I go over what HC Mike McCarthy and Howard each had to say about those two turnovers during their respective postgame press conferences. Ross and I also make sure to discuss the play of Allar during the second half of the Friday night game and how one big play that he made really stood out. Are the Steelers now guaranteed to keep all four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster at this point? Will the Steelers allow Allar to start the preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills? Will Allar and Howard once again be the only two quarterbacks to play against the Bills? Ross and I attempt to answerer all of those questions midway through this show. Should the team and fans be concerned about Wilson's play at wide receiver through two preseason games? Ross and I both think so. We also discuss the possibility of Wilson or rookie WR Germie Bernard being on the inactive list to open the 2026 regular season. After discussing all of the position groups on offensive from the Friday night game, Ross and I turn our attention to the play on the defensive side of the football. We go through all of the position groups on that side of the football and note the players we thought represented themselves well in that preseason contest. After briefly talking about the special teams play from Friday night, Ross and I talk about the latest report concerning Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. when it comes to his ongoing contract extension talks with the team. August 21, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 11 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show Alex Kozora and I start by talking about the likelihood of the Pittsburgh Steelers trading CB Joey Porter Jr. before the season starts on the heels of the Thursday night report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz. We go over the overall plausibility of Porter being traded and the several boxes that would need to be checked before the Steelers even remotely considered dealing him to another team. Will the Steelers ultimately get a contract extension with Porter done prior to the start of the regular season? What if they don't and what if they also decide not to trade him because of that? Alex and I attempt to go down that discussion path early in this show. The Steelers will play their second preseason game Friday night against the New York Jets so ahead of that, Alex and I give our full preview of that contest and that includes several players and things we will be watching for this evening. Alex goes over some specific things that fans should be looking for Friday night when it comes to the two young quarterbacks, Will Howard and Drew Allar. Will the Steelers ultimately keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster to start the regular season and is Mason Rudolph guaranteed to be one of at least three kept? How much of what Steelers HC Mike McCarthy said on Wednesday about Rudolph really matters as the final roster decision date creeps closer? Alex and I attempt to answer those questions, and we also look at a few times in recent history that NFL teams have kept four quarterbacks to open a regular season. Included in that historical four-quarterback lookback, Alex and I go over the last two times the Steelers opened a regular season with four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. Ahead of Friday night's preseason game, Alex and I use the last part of this episode to compare and contrast our most recent 53-man roster predictions for the Steelers. While we only differ in two players overall, the quarterback group remains a huge part of our differences. We explain our decisions as part of predictions. In this Wednesday morning show, that was Alex Kozora and I start by talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers new contract extension they got completed with DT Keeanu Benton on the heels of the finer details now being known. We discuss the cash flow of Benton's deal through the 2026 and 2027 seasons and little fully guaranteed money is included. While Benton now officially has a new money average that equals that of DT Cameron Heyward, we explain how Heyward will earn much more in cash over the course of the next two seasons. We also go on to speculate why Benton accepted such a team-friendly contract as opposed to betting on himself in 2026. Alex and I go over where the Steelers now sit in real-time salary cap-wise with the Benton extension numbers now known. That conversation continues into the work the Steelers still likely need to do before the 2026 regular season gets underway. After talking about the Benton contract in-depth, Alex and I go over the Steelers plan at quarterback for their second preseason game against the New York Jets on Friday night. HC Mike McCarthy announced on Wednesday morning that Will Howard and Drew Allar will be the only quarterbacks to play against the Jets so we go over that decision and what it may or may not mean when it comes the future of QB Mason Rudolph. August 17, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 9 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, that was recorded Sunday night, Alex Kozora and I start by talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers getting DT Keeanu Benton signed to a four-year, $72 million contract extension a few days ago. Alex and I spend a lot of time talking about the new Benton deal and we speculate what the cash flow might look like through for the contract through the 2027 season and how that amount might be the best way to judge the quality of the signing. We also look back at how the extensions signed earlier in the offseason by OLB Nick Herbig and TE Darnell Washington might compare from a cash flow versus new money average perspective. Alex and I also discuss what Benton's extension might mean as far as his overall usage and position for at least the 2026 season. We also talk about what the dead cap liability might look like should the Steelers need to part ways with Benton after the 2027 season. Finally, we discuss what areas of Benton's overall play are most likely to improve moving forward into the 2026 season. On the heels of the Benton extension discussion, Alex and I discuss where the Steelers are in terms of available 2026 salary cap space and how the team is likely to restructure at least one contract before the start of the regular season. We also discuss CB Joey Porter Jr. still being likely to sign a contract extension in the next four weeks and how his cash flow average through the 2027 season might come in lower than his new money average. The Steelers have spent a lot more cash than most expected them to spend this offseason so Alex and I discuss how that total could wind up being around $375 million by the start of the regular season. We also discuss what impact all of these 2026 contract extensions might ultimately have on the team's 2027 financial situation, both from a salary cap and cash spending outlook. After talking contracts, cap, and cash, Alex and I get into our final breakdowns of the Steelers first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. We pass along what we learned from the all-22 rundowns we did for both sides of the football when it comes to the play of several players. Following our final thoughts on the preseason play against the Packers, Alex and I update the health of the Steelers heading into their final public training camp practice on Monday. We look ahead to which players could potentially see more playing time in the team's second preseason game and why. This 100-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

August 14, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 8 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I start by talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers bringing ILB Elandon Roberts back on a one-year contract. We discuss how he possibly fits on defense moving forward. The Steelers placed DL Logan Lee on the Reserve/Injured list a few days ago, so Alex and I go over what his future looks like. We also pass along the news that OL Lorenzo Thompson has been waived from IR with an injury settlement. The Steelers won their 2026 preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night so Alex I get right into our full recap of that game. We start our game recap by talking about the play of all three quarterbacks, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and rookie Drew Allar. We spend a lot of time looking at the play Thursday night of Howard and Allar as it was the first preseason action for both. After talking extensively about the quarterback play against the Packers, Alex and I then proceed to go position group by position group when it comes to the Thursday night game. We mention several players that stood out on both sides of the football and that includes covering the performances of several of the draft picks. The Steelers had a lot of penalties against the Packers, so we note how those need to be cleaned up moving forward into the preseason. Alex and I make sure to go over the snap counts of several players from Thursday night and that includes us noting that RB Kaleb Johnson did not see much action against the Packers. We also run through the long list of players that sat out the Thursday night preseason game. Alex and I go over the chances of Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers playing in the preseason opener based on what he and HC Mike McCarthy said on Tuesday. In addition to talking about if Rodgers will ultimately play, Alex and I speculate as to what the QB rotation and playing time might look like Thursday night when it comes to Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Drew Allar. In the first half of this show, Alex and highlight numerous players on both sides of the football that we look forward to watching play on Thursday night against the green Bay Packers.
