Ohio State has pulled a number of elite defensive players out of the state of Georgia over the years, including defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, linebacker Raekwon McMillan, cornerback Jordan Hancock, and safety Vonn Bell. Now, the Buckeyes could be on the verge of landing another elite talent from the state, 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson. In this special bonus episode of the Skull Session Recruiting Podcast, Marc Givler and Kevin Noon of BuckeyeHuddle.com discuss that and several other key takeaways from their time in Georgia on this year's edition of the Southern Swing recruiting trip.
April 22 – Ep. 52: On this episode of The Depot Dive, Joe Clark and Ross McCorkle start by discussing the many topics covered in Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan's pre-draft press conference. That includes Jaylen Warren RB1, Aaron Rodgers not impacting draft plans, how they will approach draft trades, and Tomlin being impressed with Shedeur Sanders. For the next topic, we discuss the idea of trading back being more likely than trading up and some reports that indicate a quarterback could be the target at the end of the first round. For the third topic, we discuss Cameron Heyward's PSA to fans during draft season to believe half (or less) of what you hear. To wrap things up we answer a listener question about Jalen Milroe's upside versus Shedeur Sanders' (perhaps) limited ceiling. "Bleav in Steelers" host Mark Bergin explained what Brandon Aiyuk's contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers means for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Aiyuk's deal makes him the fifth-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. Bergin explained how reports that the Steelers tried to trade a third-round pick to the Denver Broncos. The 49ers would have acquired Courtland Sutton and the Steelers would have landed Aiyuk. The reports indicate the Broncos declined the offer. The Steelers are due to spend $6.68 million on their wide receivers in the 2024 season. Now that Aiyuk is staying with the 49ers, Bergin shared how a contract extension could be coming to Cameron Heyward or Pat Freiermuth. Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are also entering contract seasons. Bergin also mentioned two wide receivers he likes in the 2025 rookie class: Travis Hunter and Luther Burden III. Jun. 6, 2024 - On this episode of The Depot Dive, Ross McCorkle and Joe Clark dive right into what was a busy news week for the Steelers. Cameron Heyward ended his very brief holdout, so we discuss why he returned and what that means for the negotiation process. Heyward still views himself as a top-5 player at his position, so we weigh in on that claim as well. We then move into the signing of CB Cameron Sutton as he makes his return to Pittsburgh. How big of a concern are the off-field issues, and what could a suspension look like? We discuss those topics and then move into the impact he can make on the secondary and the defense as a whole as the top slot option. For the third topic, we discuss Minkah Fitzpatrick saying he wants to get back to "Minkah Ball" and he thinks the defensive additions will allow him to do just that. How many interceptions can we expect from Minkah individually and the team as a whole? We briefly discuss a report from Dan Graziano that stated Russell Wilson's contract has a no-trade clause. We wrap up the show with a listener question where we were asked about Keeanu Benton potentially being used on the outside a bit more than in his rookie season. Later in this show, we talk about Cameron Heyward sitting out voluntary OTAs and the possibility of a contract extension. May 9, 2024 - On this episode of The Depot Dive, Ross McCorkle and Joe Clark kick things off by talking about the addition of WR Scotty Miller to the roster -- not exactly the "significant playmaker" that fans have been on the lookout for over the last couple weeks. They discuss the quantity over quality approach to the current WR room, and the possibility of continuing to add to that room later in the offseason. They then talk about the need at cornerback and some buzz around a reunion with Cam Sutton, and whether or not they see such a move happening given the legal issues he is facing. For the next topic, they discuss Najee Harris' fifth-year option decision and some of the factors that may have led to the Steelers declining it. Was it a good decision, or could it come back to bite the team later? They also talk about some comments by Kevin Colbert on Cameron Heyward's Not Just Football podcast where he discusses trying not to reach for players in the draft, and discuss some of his last several drafts when he was the GM where he was perceived as having reached on a few occasions. The show is wrapped up by Joe's take on the Austin Rivers NFL vs NBA debate, including some comments made by Heyward with his take on the matter. May 3, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 127 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers decision to not exercise the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of RB Najee Harris. We go over all aspects of that decision on Harris, what likely led to the declining of the fifth-year option and what the outcomes with the running back might be moving forward. We discuss if we think the Steelers made the right decision with Harris as well. Alex and I go over a short list of players that eventually signed new contracts with their respective teams after initially having their fifth-year options declined. We also discuss what course of action Harris may or may not take for the remainder of the offseason now that his fifth-year option has been declined by the Steelers. After a long discussion about Harris, Alex and I then discuss the possibility of new Steelers QB Justin Fields being used some as a kickoff returner based on what all RB Jaylen Warren said on the topic during his recent interview with Cameron Heyward on his podcast over the weekend. Will Fields even get as much as one snap on the kickoff return team in 2024? We attempt to answer that question. Alex and I then move on to recap the event last few days that former Steelers CB Bryant McFadden has had after his tweet concerning Pittsburgh likely to add a "significant playmaker" soon. We also review what Steelers GM Omar Khan had said in recent interviews concerning the team possibly trading for "significant playmaker" soon. Dur to reader and listener peer pressure this last week, I went down the rabbit hole of the plausibility of the Steelers maybe trading for Seattle seahawks WR DK Metcalf after June 1. We go over the situation the Seahawks have with their salary cap, why they may or may not be interested in trading Metcalf and also go over things related to Seattle that will be worth following these next few weeks. With two more free agent wide receivers, D.J. Chark and Odell Beckham Jr., now agreeing to terms with new teams, Alex and I update the short list of players that the Steelers might could consider adding to their roster in some form or fashion moving forward into the offseason. Finally, we go over the latest players invited to participate in the Steelers upcoming rookie minicamp, which will take place in Pittsburgh next weekend. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 92-minute episode and we end it all by answering several emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
