Chris Kidd and Michael-Shawn Dugar sit in for Ian this afternoon. Pro Football Focus' Steve Palazzolo let's us know how Geno Smith performed on Thursday night according to PFF, plus the challenge that the Hawks receiving corps faces when going up against Arthur Maulet, plus why is Cameron Heyward ranked the #1 defensive lineman, and what's the deal with Big Ben? Unfortunately, the Kraken did not when their inaugural game, but at least they came back and made it interesting. Mike and Chris ask the hard-hitting questions after watching the first regular-season matchup: Who is the enforcer on this team, do we really need two intermissions full of analysis, and are tickets really that expensive?

October 6, 2021 - Season 12, Episode 32 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about all that has transpired with the Pittsburgh Steelers the last 48 hours and that includes a look at the practice squad transaction the team made on Tuesday. We go over the health update that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided on Tuesday and start looking ahead at what the team's first injury report of Week 5 might look like when it gets released Wednesday after practice. We also talk about the possibility of two more players on the team's Reserve/Injured list resuming practice this week. We obviously discuss Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger now dealing with a hip injury as of Sunday.Tomlin talked on Tuesday, so Alex and I go over all the main talking points to come out of that weekly session. We talk fourth down play breakdowns, Roethlisberger's ability to change plays at the line and much, much more related to what Tomlin said on Tuesday.Alex and I have gone all through the Steelers all-22 tape from their Week 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers, so we thoroughly review all that we have in our notes. We talk quite a bit about the Steelers run game success, how much zone the defense is playing and much, much more. We also talk about how good defensive tackle Cameron Heyward has been playing so far this season and the stats that back that up.Alex and I are then pleased to welcome to the show the great Ryan O'Halloran from The Denver Post. Ryan covers the Denver Broncos for the outlet, and he'll be present for the Steelers Week 5 Sunday home game at Heinz Field. We spend roughly 30 minutes with Ryan previewing the 2021 Broncos, the Sunday game and much, much more.Ryan is kind enough to give us his early thoughts on the possible outcome for the Sunday game at the end of the interview. If not already doing so, please follow Ryan on Twitter at @ryanohalloran and thank him for appearing on the Wednesday show. You can also read Tom's work online here: https://www.denverpost.com/sports/After our interview with Ryan is complete, Alex and I recap it and tie up other loose ends related to the Steelers and the show. Coming off a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, the Buffalo Bills look for their first win of the season when they travel to South Beach to take on the Miami Dolphins. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico have everything you need to know to get ready for Buffalo's first road game of the year. Among the topics discussed: Why All Pro quarterback Josh Allen enjoys playing the Miami Dolphins so much. How the Bills' offense can revert back to its record-setting ways from last year by utilizing more play action and getting contributions from the ground game. Should Bills fans be concerned about the offensive line, which was tormented by T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward and a stout Pittsburgh front four? Why Miami's blitz-heavy tendencies should allow for wide receivers Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley, Emmanuel Sanders, and Gabriel Davis to enjoy big days against the Dolphins secondary. Why Ed Oliver, Jerry Hughes, Greg Rousseau and the defensive line should be able to take advantage of a weak Dolphins offensive line. How Buffalo can capitalize on Tua Tagovailoa's penchant for turning the ball over, and why Boccacino and D'Amico both feel like the Bills defense will force multiple turnovers while getting after Tagovailoa. What Will Fuller's absence means to Miami's passing attack, and whether the Bills defense will continue playing more man-to-man against Miami's talented wideouts, or whether the Bills will revert back to more zone-heavy looks? Boccacino and D'Amico then offer up their score predictions for the game. Feel free to leave yours in the comments section. “We told him. It’s a business and you totally lose all of your childhood when you sign that contract. You are a man…”The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive captain, Cameron Heyward has been a Pro Bowler the last four seasons while also earning All-Pro honors in 2017 and 2019. He was drafted by the Steelers straight out of Ohio State in the 2011 NFL draft and he’s been with the team ever since. In this episode we hear from Cam’s mother, Charlotte Heyward, who is not only his biggest cheerleader in life but also works as Executive Director of The Cameron Heyward Foundation. She might also be the biggest Steelers fan you’ll ever meet..and long before Cameron joined the team. Charlotte takes us back to Cam’s early days on the field when she says he was not a typical recruit. We hear about his battle with asthma, why his draft day was his home coming and also the lasting legacy of his father, Craig Heyward, who also played in the NFL for 11 years  but sadly passed away in 2006.

2/22/2021Season 11, Episode 83 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Monday show, Alex Kozora and I get back after it again following our time together last week in Pittsburgh along with David Orochena.Alex and I start off this episode by talking about the time we spent in Pittsburgh and specifically the field trip we all took to Canton, OH to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame.Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert talked extensively to the media last week and obviously talked quite a bit about plans for the 2021 season and more. Alex and I spend a lot of time attempting to contextualize what all Colbert had to say last week about the future status of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, draft outlook, free agents, the salary cap and much more. We covered quite a bit in this segment. There is new speculation about what the 2021 salary cap number might ultimately be come the start of the new league year, so Alex and I spend a little time on that topic. The Steelers reportedly recently restructured the contract of defensive lineman Cameron Heyward and so Alex and I go over that transaction and how it went just as we have speculated it would. We also discuss a few other players that might get restructured in the next three weeks.Does Alex like Alabama quarterback Mac Jones as a potentially first-round selection this year for the Steelers? Yes, he does, if the team chooses to draft a quarterback this year. We talk about his breakdown he recently did of Jones, and I chime in with thoughts on the Alabama quarterback after watching only three games from his 2020 season Sunday night. We also talk about why Jones and trey Lance might be the only two quarterbacks the Steelers might consider drafting this year.We then wrap up several loose ends late in this Monday show before turning our attention to several questions we received from listeners of the show since our last episode was released.

For the first time since 2002, the Cleveland Browns are in the playoffs. Seemingly since they made it to the postseason, though, things have gone downhill for the Browns.  Already ravaged by COVID-19, the Browns on Tuesday lost head coach Kevin Stefanski for the game due to COVID-19. Left guard and team talisman Joel Bitonio was also lost for the game, along with several others. Now the depleted Browns will face a Steelers team that gets quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, pass rusher T.J. Watt and more back after they sat out Week 17 against the Browns. Do the Browns have any chance at all? On this week's Cover 2 podcast, Nate Ulrich and Dan Kadar look ahead to the game and what the Browns have to do to attain an improbable win.  And even if the Browns have little chance, just savor the good parts of the Browns actually being in the playoffs. We also go over a few rules related to game-day roster size and how we think the Steelers might handle that aspect against the Giants. We also go over the Steelers practice squad as it sits on Wednesday, review the four players on that unit they chose to protect, and speculate if any of them will be promoted Sunday night. Will the Steelers sign another player to a contract extension in the next five days? Alex and I review the prospects of that happening and who the candidates might be. We also discuss other things related to players now scheduled to be unrestricted free agents in 2021.Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger both talked to the media since Monday so we review their main talking points. Also during this show, Alex and I are joined once again by Paul Dehner Jr., who covers the Cincinnati Bengals for The Athletic. Paul brings us up to speed on what all has transpired with the Bengals this past offseason. Paul also answers several questions we have about the 2020 Bengals and lets us know what kind of season he expects Cincinnati to have with rookie quarterback Joe Burrow running the offense. 1. Truth/Exaggeration -Given the Seahawks acquisition of Jadeveon Clowney, nobody should be surprised if the Seahawks either give the Rams a season-long run for their money in the NFC West or win that division altogether -Regardless of how far the Dallas Cowboys go in 2019, they will regret in the long run not extending Dak Prescott before Zeke Elliott -With the Dolphins trading away Laremy Tunsil, one of the NFL’s rising young stars at a premium position, it screams to you that not only are they tanking 2019, they are tanking for a QB in the 2020 draft whether that be Tua Tagavoiloa or Justin Herbert -Houston Texans ownership must fire Bill O’Brien if the Texans don’t make it to the AFC Championship game this season 2. Packers at Bears -While most people are eager to see how Aaron Rodgers looks in this Matt LaFleur offense tonight (and rightfully so), I am even more eager to see how this Packers defense looks. Brian Gutekunst has quietly built a unit that I believe has the potential to surprise and take the league by storm this year. Up front, you have the UNDERRATED Kenny Clark on the inside hunting QB’s with new companions in Preston and Za’Darius Smith coming off the edge. And in the secondary, you have a rising young star at corner in Jaire Alexander, former Bear Adrian Amos, and freakish athletic rookie safety Darnell Savage. While flaws remain at ILB (especially in pass coverage), I think this can be a top-10 scoring defense this season. Do you? -The Bears made one of the best picks in the 2019 NFL Draft by potentially stealing RB David Montgomery in the third round. I foolishly lambasted them for trading Jordan Howard before the draft. Looking at Montgomery’s college tape and minimal, albeit VERY impressive preseason outing, this guy is already a better football player than Jordan Howard. Howard is just a two-down grinder who doesn’t offer anything in the passing game. Montgomery is PHENOMENAL in the passing game, both in receiving and in blitz pickup. It certaintly seems the Bears are counting on the rookie from Iowa State BIG TIME to help ease the burden off of Mitchell Trubisky. Do you think the Bears have found their new Matt Forte, and if so, would you be willing to give him a heavier workload than Jordan Howard ever had in his three seasons as a Bear? -Game-deciding matchups -Prediction 3. Steelers at Patriots -There is a bit of a concern on the Patriots when it comes to the OL. C David Andrews is likely out for the entire 2019 season after being hospitalized with blood clots. To fill the void, the Patriots acquired C Russell Bodine from Buffalo in a rare in-division trade. Bodine’s past tape has been below average at best. And in Week 1, he faces a STOUT Steelers interior front (Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt) plus the guy who I predicted to win NFL DROY in 2019, LB Devin Bush. Could this mismatch lead to a Steelers upset in a close game? -Last season, James Conner made Le’Veon Bell expendable, but little did we know at this time last season that Bell wouldn’t be the only major Steeler offensive weapon leaving town. The Steelers were fed up with Antonio Brown’s off-the-field antics (and he showed you why almost daily this summer) and thus shipped him to the Raiders. That said, shipping away a likely future Hall of Fame WR likely doesn’t improve your offense, but JuJu Smith-Schuster is a star in the making, Conner is back healthy, and Vance McDonald looks primed for a breakout season at TE. Do you think this Steelers offense still has more than enough firepower to keep up with the Patriots? -Game-deciding matchups -Prediction

Is addition by subtraction the new narrative when it comes to the 2019 Steelers? Both Merril Hoge and Louis Riddick appear to be very bullish on the 2019 Steelers so we review what all both said this past week.Alex and I go over the latest reported 18-game proposal the NFL apparently has for the NFLPA and what a few players such as defensive lineman Cameron Heyward and guard Ramon Foster seemingly think about it.I recently named three underrated Steelers offensive players to watch the remainder of the summer so Alex and I review those names and more. We also talk more about Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer and what his prospects og making this year’s 53-man roster are.Pro Football Focus had a few stats on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger this past week that got our attention so Alex and I discuss his end zone throws and throws behind the line of scrimmage. We also review the stats from 2018 related to true wide receiver screens. As part of our positional reviews ahead of Steelers training camp getting underway, Alex and I discuss linebackers during this Tuesday show.
