August 10, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 8 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Sunday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers on the heels of their Saturday night preseason game win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. After some initial overarching thoughts on the first preseason game, Alex and I roll through the additional players that did not play against the Jaguars due to injuries. We also go over the one injury the Steelers did sustain during the Saturday night preseason game that HC Mike Tomlin highlighted during his short postgame press conference. Alex and I then get into breaking down the Saturday night preseason game based only on the television copy, and we start on the offensive side of the football. We discuss the play of quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson on Saturday night and how both played well above the line. We discuss those two quarterbacks pushing the football down the field quite frequently in Jacksonville and also discuss the few touchdown passes from the game. Could Thompson potentially make the Steelers 53-man roster as the third string quarterback over rookie Will Howard? Might the Steelers consider placing Howard on the Reserve/Injured list to accommodate Thompson? How about the Steelers potentially trading Thompson before the start of the 2025 regular season? We discuss all of those questions early in this show. Moving forward in this preseason game recap, Alex and I go through all of the position groups on both sides of the football. We talk snap totals and the play of several individual players on both offense and defense against the Jaguars. We make sure to hit on the offensive line combinations used Saturday night and how the pass blocking was much better than the run blocking in Jacksonville. Alex and I make sure to note the play of all of the rookie draft picks that played Saturday night such as DT Derrick Harmon, RB Kaleb Johnson, OLB Jack Sawyer, DT Yahya Black, and ILB Carson Bruener. We make sure to hit on special teams play from Saturday night and that includes the Jaguars kicker nailing a 70-yard field goal before the end of the first half. Our top takeaways from the first preseason game of 2025 are also mixed in throughout this podcast episode. This 65-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to give our and the Steelers' schedule for this coming week. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. We give numbers both for and against Cam in this argument. A couple of more callers give their perspective. one saying it's a bit embarrassing of a look for Cam.
Cam Heyward wants a raise, and he's clearly underpaid right now. So which side are we taking? How about with Boswell? Where do the Pirates and Skenes go next? Jason was the subject of a debate between Poni and Donny on if 93.7 the Fan could beat the Pony League World Series teams. A caller says Cam is destroying the chemistry. Another suggests player incentive bonuses could've solved this. Fans generally seem to think Cam is in the wrong. That's probably not happening. A caller thinks this could be a scary precedent that will recur every year. The court of public opinion is clearly against Cam. Jeff Hathhorn is in studio to give his thoughts on Heyward and Boswell and if he thinks it'll be resolved, Jeff gives the biggest stories he'll be following in the preseason game, the new look offense, Aaron Rodgers seems like a real person, and Juan Thornhill's comments. KeBryan Hayes got a nice ovation last night in his return. Jason clarifies Zangrilli's comments about Skenes and contract negotiations. The best pitch the team can make to Skenes is to start winning. Slam on your brakes and stop in with Tate, Shannon & Big-G. We all know the name, Mitch, Mason, Kenny, Russ, Justin and most recently Aaron Rodgers. The question that needs to be answered is beyond the 2025 season, who will be in the Steelers QB Room? Will Howard a 6th round draft pick out of Ohio State, Will A-Rod be back or is it definitely going to be one of the talents in the 2026 NFL Draft like LeNoris Sellers, Cade Klubbnick or Drew Allen. We gave some time to the Chris Boswell news, sitting as the 11th highest-paid kicker in football. Poni said he is more sympathetic to Cam Heyward and his situation given how much he puts his body on the line. More calls. Steve Palazzolo from the 33rd Team joined the show. Steve said Cam Heyward is still a very good player and he is coming off an ‘incredible' 2024 campaign. Steve said the age with Heyward makes things tricky, but if it's for this year and next year, they can handle it financially. Steve joked that he hates discussing kickers, but when it is clear you have one in the top tier, like Chris Boswell, you should ‘hold your nose' and pay the player. Steve likes the Steelers addition of Derrick Harmon to the defensive front. Steve thinks the Will Howard injury is a big deal because it was a chance for the Steelers to see the reps in-game from their rookie QB. Why did Howard fall so far in the draft? Donny Football Debrief – Reports from training camp that Cam Heyward denied the media after practice today.

The Pittsburgh Steelers put the pads back on for Tuesday's practice, and Jarrett Bailey was in Latrobe to take in all the sights. Aaron Rodgers has his best practice as a Steeler, Roman Wilson impresses, and Will Howard suffers an injury. That and more on today's training camp recap.
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette insider Christopher Carter to analyze the team's increasing volume of injuries during Steelers training camp. How much will Will Howard's hand injury -- which reportedly will keep him out at least three weeks -- stymie his progress in challenging Mason Rudolph for the No. 2 QB job? How much should fans worry about Calvin Austin III, who's missed several practices as he looks to prove he can be a capable WR2 behind DK Metcalf? And have the absences of names like Jonnu Smith, Joey Porter Jr., Isaac Seumalo and others simply been the normal wear and tear of camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks receivers. Is Roman Wilson starting to turn a corner in his chemistry with QB Aaron Rodgers after a highlight-reel catch Tuesday? Is Scotty Miller still in the mix to make the roster despite failing to see the field much with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in 2024? Could the Steelers still make a move for a veteran like Amari Cooper? Or are they confident in their depth and other veterans like Robert Woods and Ben Skowronek.
Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo recap practice at Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They break down the latest Will Howard injury news, which is that the rookie QB is expected to miss the entire NFL preseason with a broken hand, opening up reps for names like Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson. They also analyze the punting battle between Cameron Johnston and Corliss Waitman. And react to QB Aaron Rodgers' comments indicating that he does not expect to play in the preseason opener this weekend. Is coach Mike Tomlin making the right move to protect his QB? Or should Rodgers see some action as he looks to build chemistry with weapons like DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin III, Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth. Our guys tackle those questions and more.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the injury to rookie quarterback Will Howard and how that will impact the team's plans. Howard is expected to miss the entire 2025 preseason after suffering a broken pinky at practice on Tuesday. The team had planned to play him a ton this preseason, so how will his absence impact their plans in terms of preseason playing time, the backup quarterback situation, and their plans for the 2026 season? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We got an update on the Will Howard injury from Mike Tomlin. It appears to be a broken finger that will have him ‘week-to-week.' Howard has a fracture on a finger of his throwing hand, but surgery won't be necessary. A few reports are suggesting it is his pinky finger, which is probably the one you want it to be if you had to pick. There was also a brawl at today's practice. Juan Thornhill stoked the fires of the hype around the team's defense. How good can they be? 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff mentioned Derrick Harmon missing practice for a second day in a row. Jeff broke down the practice fight from earlier today. Chris asked Jeff about Harmon flying under the radar compared to 1st round picks of the past. Jeff brought up the combo of Broderick Jones and Isaac Seumalo on the left side and noted it has looked better for Jones since Seumalo came back to practice. Jeff said it was another solid day for Aaron Rodgers. Jeff couldn't 100% confirm, but based on looking at his hand, it appears to be the pinky that Will Howard broke yesterday. Jeff noted that Roman Wilson got a lot of love today from QB1. Judge Donny.

Will Howard will miss the entire preseason, per the reports of a broken hand. It's probably good Poni is off today. We acknowledge that it does suck for Howard because this was his big shot to show the Steelers if he had anything, even if we have to take preseason results with a grain of salt. Chris said there is no shame in being a career backup if you were chosen in the 6th round. It robs Howard of some important reps, but this should have never prohibited the Steelers from their plan in 2026. Where did Howard rank for you among guys you were excited to watch on Saturday? Does this injury take the expectations for Howard back down to earth? Poni thinks he jinxed Will Howard when he took him in Black and Gold Auction House. A commenter paid $10 to comment on Youtube that Dom should produce a double header. A caller thought he was talking to both Donny and Poni before he realized it was Mullsy. Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt says that it is frustrating for fans to have to trust Ben Cherington's decisions on certain trade packages. The rumor was that Cherington turned down a package headlined by Eduardo Tait to take the Flores package instead. Clement mentions that Flores fits the Paul Skenes timeline and Tait does not. He also says that the numbers that Skenes has put up his first two years have never been seen before. Matt says that it would make sense for Skenes to sign a contract with the Pirates early in his career for security, and then he can go and make a ton of money elsewhere afterwards.
Rodgers Replies. Rodgers was empathetic of Will Howard after it was announced that Howard will miss 3 weeks. Rodgers said that the offense has been clicking more the last 3 or 4 days. Rodgers also praised Roman Wilson a lot and called him “so talented”. He was also very complementary of Arthur Smith. Mullsy says that Rodgers sounds way more authentic and normal than Russell Wilson. ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi says that it is an unfortunate time for Will Howard to get hurt because it stunts his development. She also says that the Steelers would have wanted to see Howard in live action football. Donny Football Debrief – ESPN will distribute NFL Redzone on traditional television, and ESPN and NFL Fantasy will combine. NFL Network will distribute Redzone through NFL+. What percentage chance do you give Will Howard to be the Steelers answer? Bob and Austin are below 20%, but Bob has some optimism. We have a punting competition! What's the more likely experiment to work: Mark Robinson at fullback or Darnell Washington at tackle?
93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff isn't sure if Will Howard will play on Saturday after suffering a minor injury today in practice. He said Roman Wilson had, maybe, his best day of camp. Jeff thinks Wilson's spot on the depth chart may be a piece of motivation from Mike Tomlin. Jeff said the offense looked fluid today with Aaron Rodgers dicing things up with some simple throws. Jeff mentioned Jack Sawyer and how he has size that doesn't get mentioned enough. What did Jeff make of the viral video of Rodgers moving around in drills? Jeff felt good about saying it was the best day for the offense and maybe the best overall day of camp. Jeff broke down a potential punter battle brewing.
Will Howard was presumably injured in practice today. Aaron Rodgers threw a pick that was a perfect pass that hit Connor Heyward in the facemask. Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg says that he was not shocked by any of the moves the Pirates made at the trade deadline. He also says that “there's something in there” with Jack Suwinski. Greg says that the leadership aspect of players is overrated, and he'd rather get young guys more at-bats. He says that moving Falter allowed for Oviedo to come up. Brown calls the Bednar and Hayes trades “gigantic” moves. He also says that he'd be surprised if Skenes wasn't open to re-signing here. Greg says he 100% still believes that Bob Nutting cares about winning. Donny Football Debrief – The Browns will start Shedeur Sanders to begin the preseason. Who will be their starter for Week 7 against the Steelers? Poni thinks it will be Gabriel, and Mullsy thinks it will be Pickett. Donny thinks it will be Shedeur. Poni says if Pickett starts and beats the Steelers, it will be Mike Tomlin's worst loss ever.
Donny Football Debrief. The CFB Coaches' Poll has dropped. Fans get a 1 vs 2 matchup right off the bat with Texas vs Ohio State. Buffalo received a vote and Florida State, who won 2 games last year, received votes. The guys discuss a potential segment on college quarterbacks that could be future Steelers. Mullsy says that there's a reason Will Howard was available at pick 162.
Mason Rudolph says that Aaron Rodgers has forgotten more football than most people will ever know. Rudolph has gone from talking himself up to now talking Aaron Rodgers up. Mullsy mentions that Mason was probably humbled a little bit by his time in Tennessee. Jeff Hathhorn sat down with Arthur Smith to talk about the Steelers' offense. Arthur Smith calls the Steelers' offensive additions this season “awesome”. He also says that the whole offense is going to have to adjust to any new quarterback that the Steelers would have, it's not just an Aaron Rodgers thing. Smith says that he's been really impressed with Kenneth Gainwell. He also calls the receiving room a “great group of guys”. Donny Football Debrief. The CFB Coaches' Poll has dropped. Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark doesn't believe that Mullsy made 9 straight threes in a pickup game. The guys bring up Mark's controversial comment on the Mcafee show about throwing toilet paper away. Mark said they were just wipes. Mark says it is very unlikely that the Steelers would trade for Terry Mclaurin. Apparently, the Steelers have the second best odds to trade for Micah Parsons. More w/ Mark – The consensus is that Rodgers had his best practice as a Steeler yesterday. Kaboly says that he was getting his best protection yet yesterday. He also says that the offense was terrible on Wednesday and was probably motivated to bounce back. Broderick Jones is currently hurt and has not been on the field. Mark finds it hard to believe that Broderick will get benched this season because the options behind him are not good. Fans were excited whenever Aaron Rodgers completed a pass over the middle of the field. Kaboly says that Payton Wilson has taken it to the next level in training camp so far. He also expects a positional battle between Juan Thornhill and Chuck Clark. More w/ Mark – Mark says that Will Howard looks better than what a 6th round QB should look like in his first camp. He says the Steelers think they got a steal, but not a ridiculous one. Mason Rudolph knows that he's not the starter, but he knows that he has to be ready if needed and ready to win. Mark says that Will Howard is very smart. The guys discuss where Ben Roethlisberger ranks all time.

Joe recaps his adventurous weekend. We react to the incredible poem written by Dave Parker that his son recited yesterday at the HOF. Will there be another Pirate in the HOF? The Pirates have squandered another great Skenes season. Fans shouldn't be hesitant to trade Keller for a bat. Steven Kwan and Jarren Duran are possible targets. The Cubs could also move a top prospect for Keller. Now is the time to take some risks. Joe didn't have cell service for almost a full week. We agree that cell phones have ruined the world. Skenes ERA is unparalleled in the past century. A caller points out that the Pirates gave Parker a million dollars. A caller blames the hitting coach. An update on Bubba Chandler. A caller is ornery about trading Mitch Keller. There's always going to be uncertainty trading for a hitter who hasn't been proven in the MLB. Deshon Elliott says the Steelers defense could possibly be the best in the league this year. Where's the proof of this? The numbers are mediocre. Haven't we learned our lesson from previous seasons? Is there delusion with the D? Will it be built for the long haul? Cordarrelle Patterson says he's released. Aaron Rodgers had a mature response to Terry Bradshaw's comments.
