And they anticipate storylines to watch when players can start hitting full-speed Wednesday. From Kaleb Johnson wanting to prove he can handle pass protection in the backs-on-backers drill like Jaylen Warren did a few years back; to Derrick Harmon, Jack Sawyer and Yahya Black making their debuts in a hard-hitting setting; to Broderick Jones proving he's ready to handle left tackle duties following the departure of Dan Moore Jr. via NFL free agency; and Jalen Ramsey showing the physicality he can bring to the secondary. Gerry also recaps a conversation with OC Arthur Smith as he incorporates new faces like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith into the offense.

We talk about how he will miss the start of training camp and who is likely to fill in for him at left guard until he is healthy. We talk a little bit about how the Steelers are really a healthy team overall heading into training camp this year. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin talked to the media Wednesday afternoon, so we go over a few key things that he had to say at the start of camp. We focus a lot on what Tomlin had to see about the expected cornerback usage in 2025 when it comes to the top three in that position group, Joey Porter Jr., Jalen Ramsey, and Darius Slay. Steelers GM Omar Khan also had a press conference on Wednesday, so Alex and I parse the main talking points to come out of his media session. There's a lot to recap from Khan when it comes to possible additions moving forward and future contract extensions this summer. We discuss how active Khan has been this offseason with him also keeping a close eye on the 2026 NFL Draft. We go over what he had to say about the decision to trade away S Minkah Fitzpatrick a few weeks ago as well. Fresh off of signing his new contract last week, Steelers OLB T.J. Watt also had a formal press conference on Wednesday. Alex and I make sure to parse the several key things that he had to say during his media session. With the Steelers set to have their first official training camp practice of 2025 on Thursday, Alex and I look ahead to things we are looking forward to learning right out of the chute this year. Steelers 2025 X-factors: DAVE DAMESHEK likes Joey Porter Jr. on defense? Broderick Jones on offense?

On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter welcomes podcaster Dave Dameshek to get his assessment of the team ahead of training camp next month at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They begin by pondering which young players could be x-factors in 2025, with a specific focus on the 2023 NFL draft class that included Joey Porter Jr., Broderick Jones, Nick Herbig, Keeanu Benton and Cory Trice Jr. Will those guys be the difference makers if coach Mike Tomlin and Co. are going to have a good season? Or, if they struggle, could they drag the whole team down regardless of what new faces like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and others bring to the table? Later, the guys look to Steelers history for lessons in leadership that could help the current squad. And Dave plays a game of "What If?" Imagining what might have happened had Ben Roethlisberger retired after his 2019 arm injury, and whether names like Jordan Love, Justin Herbert or Jalen Hurts could be the team's franchise quarterback right now.
