Join the Hardcore Penn State Football Podcast as we preview No. 2 Penn State's Week 3 clash with Villanova at Beaver Stadium! Coming off a 2-0 start with a dominant 34-0 shutout over FIU, the Nittany Lions face an FCS opponent in Villanova, but with a massive Big Ten opener against No. 4 Oregon looming, this game is all about execution and momentum. We're diving into what Penn State must do to stay sharp, why this tune-up matters, and how some of the AP Poll voters still hav the Lions reigning supreme at No. 1. Let's break it down! After an inconsistent offensive showing against FIU—marked by Drew Allar's 57.6% completion rate and a sluggish 3-of-12 third-down conversions—Penn State can't afford to sleepwalk through this one. Coach James Franklin emphasized cleaning up the offensive line's missed assignments and boosting the run game led by Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. Expect Allar to target Kyron Hudson, Trebor Pena and Devonte Ross early to build rhythm. Can the Lions deliver a crisp, mistake-free performance to send a message before Oregon? This matchup is Penn State's last chance to iron out kinks before hosting No. 4 Oregon in a Big Ten blockbuster that could shape their playoff path. The defense, led by Dani Dennis-Sutton and a resurgent Zuriah Fisher, has been lights-out, forcing turnovers and holding opponents to 354 combined yards over two games. Freshman DE Chaz Coleman's emergence adds depth, but Villanova's balanced attack will challenge PSU's ability to stay disciplined. Offensively, it's about consistency—can Allar shake off Week 2's woes, and will the O-line finally gel? We're analyzing how this game sets the stage for the Ducks and what Franklin's staff must prioritize. Despite some offensive hiccups, some of the AP Poll voters remain all-in on Penn State, holding the Nittany Lions at No. 1 for the third straight week. The shutout of FIU and Week 1's 46-11 rout of Nevada have voters sold on PSU's elite defense and upside, even with Oregon, Ohio State, and Texas nipping at their heels. We're debating whether the Lions deserve the top spot, how their résumé stacks up, and what a dominant win over Villanova could do to solidify their ranking before the Big Ten gauntlet begins. Will Gabe Nwosu's booming 70-yard punt from Week 2 flip the field again? Can Ryan Barker stay perfect on field goals? And which under-the-radar players—like S Antoine Belgrave-Shorter or RB Cam Wallace—might steal the show? We're breaking down matchups, sharing our score predictions, and discussing how PSU NEEDS to demolish VIllanova. Plus, live listener Q&A, Allar's ceiling, and whether this team is truly playoff-ready. Tune in now for the full preview—We Eat! Join the Hardcore Penn State Football Podcast as we dissect No. 2 Penn State's 34-0 shutout victory over FIU in Week Two at Beaver Stadium! The Nittany Lions moved to 2-0 with a dominant defensive performance and a late offensive surge, but the road to a Big Ten title and playoff berth looks bumpy after another uneven showing. With 104,000 fans braving the rain in Happy Valley, we're breaking down the key moments, concerns, and bright spots from this lopsided win, plus a look at Penn State alums shining in NFL Week 1. Let's dive in! Senior QB Drew Allar followed his stellar Week 1 with a frustratingly inconsistent performance against FIU, completing 19 of 33 passes for 200 yards and two TDs but struggling to find rhythm. Early miscues, including a missed swing pass to Nick Singleton and underthrown deep balls, led to a sluggish first half with just 10 points. Allar's highlight was a gorgeous 42-yard TD pass to Devonte Ross, but his 57.6% completion rate and visible frustration—mimicking tearing his jersey after a miss—sparked fan debate. Is this a blip, or a sign of deeper issues for the senior signal-caller? The offensive line, expected to be a strength, had another rough outing, with missed assignments stalling drives and limiting the ground attack. Despite Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton combining for over 200 rushing yards and two TDs, the unit lacked consistency, contributing to a measly 3-of-12 third-down conversions. Coach James Franklin called out the sloppy execution, and with tougher tests like Ohio State looming, the O-line's struggles are a yellow flag. Can they clean it up before Big Ten play? The defensive line was a bright spot, stepping up big in the shutout. Freshman DE Chaz Coleman made his presence felt, showing promise with disruptive plays and earning praise for his potential as a future star. Veteran DE Zuriah Fisher's return added juice, bolstering a unit that held FIU to just 151 total yards and forced a turnover on an Alonzo Ford interception. With Tony Rojas racking up 10 tackles, this D-line looks ready to carry Penn State's defense under new DC Jim Knowles. Are they the key to a top-tier season? Special teams delivered a highlight with punter Gabe Nwosu unleashing a monstrous 70-yard punt that flipped the field and energized the soggy Beaver Stadium crowd. The bomb pinned FIU deep, showcasing Nwosu's leg and potential as a weapon in the field-position battle. Ryan Barker also chipped in with two field goals (41 and 34 yards), though a 53-yarder was blocked. Special teams could be a difference-maker this year! While the current Nittany Lions grind, Penn State alums lit up NFL Week 1! We'll recap how PSU's pros are carrying the #WeAre spirit on the big stage! Despite the 2-0 start, Penn State's sluggish offense and Allar's inconsistency raise concerns as they head into a crucial stretch. Can the O-line gel, and will Allar find his form? The defense and special teams look elite, but is it enough to compete with the Big Ten's best? We're previewing the upcoming slate, analyzing their play, and tackling your listener questions on whether we should be concerned about this performance. Tune in now for the full breakdown. Joe continues to trim weight and he's close to his goal. Bob commends him. We open a 6 pack - Heyward's status for Sunday, we examine it from the perspectives of Cam, the Steelers, and fans, are pass rushers becoming overvalued, would Cam get booed, the Jets are down a key player, Konnor Griffin had an injury scare but seems to be alright. Aaron Glenn has been asked frequently about Aaron Rodgers, Don Kelly is basically .500 as the manager and perhaps has done enough to keep his job, Tommy Pham is growing on Joe, why can't instant replay determine clear missed calls in baseball still, Jaylen Warren's extension, the General offers up an Ohtani card. Both Pomp and Joe have bold takes for NFL MVPs - Baker Mayfield and Bo Nix. Defensive coaches ranked the offensive coaches anonymously. Kyle Shanahan is #1. Is Arthur Smith in the same realm as the best guys? He was listed as an honorable mention. Pomp says most of his callers on the Nightly Sports Call have been critical of Cam. Would Cam want to see the Steelers get shredded if he sits out against the Jets? What happens if they win? Joe says there's a lot of cheaters in golf. Dan Zangrilli stops in to discuss Ohtani's place in history, Chandler and Yorke, Triolo, if Tommy Pham should be back, the Framber Valdez and Devers incidents, the excitement about the Pirates in 2026. We review the potential starting players for the Bucs next year. Join the Hardcore Penn State Football Podcast as we break down the No. 2 Nittany Lions' commanding 46-11 victory over Nevada in Week One at Beaver Stadium! With over 106,000 fans roaring in Happy Valley, Penn State kicked off the 2025 campaign in style, forcing three turnovers and piling up 438 total yards. But while the win was decisive, it's clear there's work to be done as the Lions gear up for a Big Ten title run and beyond. We're diving deep into the highs, lows, and what it all means for James Franklin's squad. Senior QB Drew Allar wasted no time asserting himself, going 22-of-26 for 217 yards and a touchdown in a poised performance that showed his growth heading into what could be a Heisman-contending year. He spread the ball to five different receivers, including a dagger 31-yard strike to transfer Kyron Hudson that capped a slick two-minute drill before halftime. Allar's accuracy and decision-making kept the chains moving, proving he's ready to lead this high-powered offense to new heights. The passing game wasn't just Allar—our wideouts flashed serious potential! Hudson led the charge with six catches for 89 yards and that key score, while Syracuse transfer Trebor Peña hauled in seven receptions for big chunks of yards. Devonte Ross also got involved with a nice grab on a pivotal first down-converting grab. These guys looked like the consistent weapons we've been waiting for, creating separation and making plays downfield. If they build on this chemistry, Penn State's aerial attack could be unstoppable. On defense, it was all about chaos, and senior DE Dani Dennis-Sutton was the star of the show! The edge rusher terrorized Nevada's line all afternoon, notching five tackles (2.5 for loss), a sack, a pass breakup, AND a career-high two forced fumbles—one on the Wolf Pack's opening drive recovered by A.J. Harris, and another in the third quarter scooped by Zakee Wheatley at the Nevada 16. Add in Zane Durant's first career interception, and this unit held Nevada to just 203 yards and 78 on the ground. Under new DC Jim Knowles, the D is already playing like a top-10 group—disruptive, turnover-hungry, and dominant. Shoutout to redshirt sophomore Ryan Barker for a flawless day on special teams! He nailed all four of his field goal attempts, including a career-long 39-yarder, matching his personal best and adding 12 crucial points to the scoreboard. From 28 yards twice to that bomber from 39, Barker was money when the offense stalled near the red zone. Reliability like this could be a game-changer in tight Big Ten battles down the road. That said, it's not all sunshine—there's room to grow. The offensive line, expected to be one of the nation's best, had some ugly missed assignments that disrupted rhythm and limited explosive plays up front. The run game, led by the dynamic duo of Nicholas Singleton (two TDs) and Kaytron Allen (13-yard score and 43 yards), totaled solid yards but lacked the punch we saw in previous seasons. Singleton and Allen combined for three rushing scores, but consistency on the ground will be key against tougher fronts like Ohio State and Michigan. Coach Franklin called out the sloppiness post-game; expect those reps to sharpen up quick. What's Next for the Lions? This win sets a strong tone, but with road games looming and a schedule stacked with contenders, Penn State can't afford complacency. We're discussing the Nevada game, taking fan questions, and breaking down the Monday Press Conference. Tune in now for the full breakdown. Penn State QB Drew Allar met with reporters for an extended discussion of the Nittany Lions' 2025 season at Big Ten Media Days in Las Vegas.Allar discussed a number of topics related to Ohio State, including how former Buckeye defensive coordinator Jim Knowles has used information from his time in Columbus to improve Allar's game, what it will mean to get a chance to play in the Horseshoe this fall, and what it's going to take to finally get over the hump and beat the Buckeyes after so many close calls.
It has been "close, but no cigar" for the Penn State Nittany Lions for close to a decade against Ohio State. One of the early storylines for Penn State football is that they're a top team contending for the National Championship and quarterback Drew Allar is again in the conversation for a Heisman. But how realistic is any of that? Today on the BWI Live Show, we discuss the factors that would lead Penn State to another deep playoff run and a chance at a Championship in 2025. The Nittany Lions need Allar to take the next step and become the best version of himself next year, but does that correlate to postseason awards? We'll discuss the tactical ways that can happen and what the most realistic outcome is as we sit in January. Does Penn State have enough NFL talent to win a championship? We'll continue our theme of Penn State's path to a National Championship by discussing a tweet from Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy. In a social media post on Tuesday, Nagy claimed that it takes NFL talent to win a championship in college football. He posted the last six winners of the CFP and the number of NFL Draft picks they had in that year's draft. Where does Penn State stand with potential draft talent for 2026? We'll look at that and examine this article from yesterday about how many players the Lions may realistically send to the NFL after next season. Today on the Logan Blackman Show we follow along as Notre Dame defeats Penn State in the College Football Playoff semifinal by a score of 27-24. With that we compare and contrast each teams starting quarterbacks, Riley Leonard and Drew Allar, discussing how they did in this game, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and where they could end up going in the NFL Draft. Speaking of the Draft we react to the news of Georgia quarterback Carson Beck pulling his name from the Draft and entering the transfer portal, with Miami (FL) being his most likely destination. We then take a look at the current top 18 picks in the draft and go over what each quarterback needy team could do, whether that be over draft 'their guy' or avoid taking one all together as the class gets weaker and weaker. Finally we reveal our officially official NFL Playoff predictions, making an absolutely shocking Super Bowl pick in the process. Enjoy! (we also check out my bowl season predictions)

Penn State doesn't get it done vs. Top Five Team Penn State's defense could not have gotten off to a worse start against Oregon. The Nittany Lions' normally stout front was gashed on the first two drives as Oregon rushed out to an explosive lead. Oregon's speed was too much for the team as they got their explosive athletes into space and raced out to 31 points in the first half, including an 11-point lead early in the second quarter. But from there, the Penn State offense came roaring back. Unlike previous big games, the offense was the side of the football that held the line for the Nittany Lions, going toe-to-toe with the Ducks and scoring 24 points before halftime. However, Oregon's explosiveness was too much for the Penn State defense. The Ducks passing attack went off with electric slot receiver Tez Johnson going for 181 yards in the game. Allar threw an interception with under two minutes left in the game to seal the game for the Ducks. What's next for the Nittany Lions? Penn State will await its fate on Sunday afternoon to find out its seeding in the first round of the inaugural 12-team playoff. Penn State dominates bottom-dweller in the Big Ten Penn State raced out to a 21-3 lead over Purdue in the first half of the game, powered by two efficient and effective drives to start the game. Penn State quarterback Drew Allar went 10-10 for 116 yards and a touchdown to start things off while the team averaged 6.4 yards per carry in the first half. However, two stalled three-and-out drives stymied the scoring fest heading into halftime. But unlike last week against Washington, Penn State's offense didn't blink after halftime. The offense scored three times in the third quarter including two explosive runs from Tyler Warren and Beau Pribula and a 46-yard touchdown pass from Allar to Trey Wallace to end the day for the starting offense. Warren was once again the star of the game for the Nittany Lions. The Penn State tight end caught all eight of his targets for 127 yards and a touchdown. He also added in 63 yards and a score on the ground, bringing his game total to 190 yards and two touchdowns. Abdul Carter does it againIt wasn't a perfect night from the Penn State defense, but it was close. The backup linebackers and secondary entered the game with a 21-3 lead but gave up a field goal scoring drive in the second quarter. Beyond that, it was a long day, once again, for this 1-9 Purdue team. Abdul Carter was once again the star on defense, racking up five tackles, two tackles for loss, and multiple quick pressures that ended plays for Purdue. More game day content Be sure to stick around after the postgame show to hear from head coach James Franklin. Join the BWI Live Postgame show to discuss the team's efforts and what decided the game for the Nittany Lions. We'll spend 60 minutes discussing the loss and what happened. Also, we'll tell you what it means for the team's postseason chances. Penn State gets out to a hot startThe Penn State opening drive went well, as they have done for much of the season. The team held the ball for half of the first quarter and drove deep into Ohio State territory. Starting quarterback Drew Allar, a question coming into the game, kept plays alive with his feet, but ultimately, the team settled for a field goal. That was the story for Penn State's offense. When it did put together a drive, the effort stalled out for a field goal. Coming out of halftime, the Nittany Lions put together an adjustment drive that led to eight plays and 49 yards but ultimately ended in another Ryan Barker field goal. Overall, the offense struggled to get players open against the physical Ohio State cornerbacks. The officials left the flag in their pockets on several occasions in the first half but the Nittany Lions also struggled to get open against zone. Penn State chose to leave players into chip against the aggressive Ohio State defensive line, giving Allar fewer options in the passing game. Defense struggles to keep athletes under control The Penn State defense played a gutsy game, keeping the explosive Ohio State offense in check for most of the game. The defensive secondary struggled to find receivers early in the game, giving up some big plays on play-action and long-developing routes. Ohio State also pivoted and ran quarterback Will Howard more than they have all season, putting Penn State's big, physical defensive ends into conflict. However, Ohio State struggled to run between the tackles and Howard missed several wide-open touchdowns to his receivers on deep passes. Ultimately, the Penn State offense couldn't mount a counter-punch, even with a chunk of the scoring coming from the defense on a pick-six in the first quarter. The Penn State offense got the ball down to the one-yard line but failed to punch the ball in on fourth down. Ohio State then salted the game away with four minutes left. Join the LaBatt Postgame Show tp discuss the win and your thought about how the team played in the back-and-forth affair. If you haven't yet, subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel so you don't miss any of our great postgame content. Penn State is still a second half teamIt was another sleepy start to the game for the Nittany Lions. Penn State got out to a slow start in the first half, managing just six points in the first two quarters while allowing 20 through the first two frames But not all slow starts are the same. The team marched down the field on the opening drive, but a penalty on fourth and goal negated a Tyler Warren touchdown. Later, the team drove down into the red zone again but failed to punch the ball into the end zone. Defensively, Penn state failed to keep a lid on the big plays from USC early on. Specifically, the Penn State run defense was leaky, allowing 147 rushing yards in the first half. That mark included a 75-yard end-around for a touchdown to start off the scoring for USC. However, the defense executed their usual second-half adjustments, allowing just three yards in the third quarter. Allar fights through adversity It was a breakout performance among a season of standout performances for Warren. The Penn State tight end saw the ball early and often in the matchup with USC, finishing the game with 17 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown. Most impressivley, 151 of those yards came after the catch. However, the most impressive performance of the night may have come from quarterback Drew Allar. The third-year quarterback threw two interceptions during the game, but fought back to command a drive of the ages for the Penn State offense. Down by seven points with just six minutes left in the game, Allar and his offense went nine plays for 75 yards, including two fourth-down conversions and a 14-yard touchdown strike to Nick Singleton to cap off the performance. After two stops by the defense to end regulation and then force a missed field goal in overtime, Penn State's Ryan Barker kicked the winning field goal. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationGet the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24PreviewBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

They're not running QB power which is not even an expensive install. No we do not want Rich Rodriguez back! But they're not running the offense that optimizes this team's strengths. Alex Orji opened it up a bit in the passing game and at the very least kept the ball out of harm's way. The whole philosophy of this offense under Harbaugh was that you have an NFL quarterback and don't have to run a lot of College Crap™ - but now they should. Offensive line loses Myles Hinton in this game. Semaj Morgan played very little of a role. Nick Sheridan is killing it at Alabama! [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Minnesota Starts at 38:37 Not a whole lot of nits to pick considering they were down their two best players. A bit of a sharp drop-off with a lot of the backups. Not much to say about the starting defensive line - they're awesome. Zeke Berry had the play of the game. Barham always finishes his tackles, Hausmann was out of position at times, Rolder has been improving every game. Wink's defense blitzed less which was nice; had a bad one on a 3rd down conversion, though. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 1:00:50 Takes hotter than Nick Sheridan in the first half of the Georgia Alabama game. The Minnesota guy touched the ball before ten yards so quit your yappin'. The off-sides was very close. Is there a kicker in Michigan history you would take over Dominic Zvada? Going for it on 4th and 1 makes sense when you have Kalel Mullings. Tommy Doman: fine. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:36:00 Indiana 42, Maryland 28 Indiana is 5-0 for the first time since 1967. Will #9Windiana finally stop being an internet meme?? USC 38, Wisconsin 21 A tale of two halves, USC mostly shot themselves in the foot in the first half. Nebraska 28, Purdue 10 This game was tied 0-0 at halftime, if you're a computer science major this spells NOOP. Penn State 21, Illinois 7 Illinois scores six minutes into this game and decides that they're done. Drew Allar descends back into 2023 Allar. Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7 The Jeremiah Smith coming out party. Sparty can't convert in the redzone. Oregon 34, UCLA 14 UCLA is very bad!! Rutgers 21, Washington 18 Washington outgained Rutgers 521 to 299! Washington is not as bad as their record but they may be limping a bit into the Michigan game.
