The Penguins made a trade last night ahead of the league's trade deadline on Friday. The move sees Michael Bunting shipped out of town about a year after he was acquired in the Jake Guentzel deal. There are some mock drafts out there that have Dart going in the 1st round, and one as high as number 3 overall. Jason does not feel good about the Steelers getting a deal done with Justin Fields as we sit 4 days away from the legal tampering period. Jason isn't willing to part with a 1st and 3rd round pick for DK Metcalf, but he wants the Steelers to truly address WR in free agency. Jason does not have a problem if the Steelers trade TJ Watt instead of paying him big money.

Ray talked about the Senior Bowl targets and which positions the Steelers could have their eyes on. Ray said they will probably move on from Larry Ogunjobi as part of the team's makeover to the defensive line. Ray talked about the reasons why Keeanu Benton struggled a bit this season. May 9, 2024 - On this episode of The Depot Dive, Ross McCorkle and Joe Clark kick things off by talking about the addition of WR Scotty Miller to the roster -- not exactly the "significant playmaker" that fans have been on the lookout for over the last couple weeks. They discuss the quantity over quality approach to the current WR room, and the possibility of continuing to add to that room later in the offseason. They then talk about the need at cornerback and some buzz around a reunion with Cam Sutton, and whether or not they see such a move happening given the legal issues he is facing. For the next topic, they discuss Najee Harris' fifth-year option decision and some of the factors that may have led to the Steelers declining it. Was it a good decision, or could it come back to bite the team later? They also talk about some comments by Kevin Colbert on Cameron Heyward's Not Just Football podcast where he discusses trying not to reach for players in the draft, and discuss some of his last several drafts when he was the GM where he was perceived as having reached on a few occasions. The show is wrapped up by Joe's take on the Austin Rivers NFL vs NBA debate, including some comments made by Heyward with his take on the matter. The Steelers' somewhat surprising move on running back Najee Harris has spawned plenty of conspiracy theories in Pittsburgh. Among them: New GM Omar Khan is actively attempting to oust all of the players procured by his predecessor, Kevin Colbert. Najee, who won't get his fifth-year option picked up, is just the latest to be thrown overboard. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode we discuss the compensatory pick formula and why the Steelers have been left in the cold on them in recent memory. How much of the drafting in the waning years of Kevin Colbert's tenure play into that and how much have things changed? We also answer questions about the future of the QB room and the run concepts. Football is a beautiful game, but the business side of it can get down right ugly. The Steelers didn't pick up Najee Harris's 5th year option, now the RB is kind of in limbo contractually. What direction are Omar Kahn and Andy Weild taking the team as they continue to dispose of Kevin Colbert's picks. While Colbert is a legend, there are lessons to learn about mistakes he made going down his final draft classes. Looking at misses like Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns, Terrell Edmunds, Devin Bush and Kenny Pickett, how can the Steelers be sure to have another strong draft class like Omar Khan's first haul? Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson fielded a caller that had a voice that resembled that of this former Steelers' GM. What do you think?
On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to analyze the team's situation at wide receiver. Will general manager Omar Khan look to add a veteran like Allen Robinson via NFL free agency? A fresh rookie face from the NFL draft? Or could the answer to be yes to both? How much does Diontae Johnson's uncertain future in Pittsburgh loom over this offseason's decisions? Why are names including Tyler Boyd, Kendrick Boure and Quez Watkins among those to watch when free agency opens? And can Khan and assistant GM Andy Weidl's front office keep up the success Kevin Colbert's regime had at finding contributors through the draft? Our duo tackles those topics and more.

How much are busts like Devin Bush in 2019 and Chase Claypool in 2020 hurting the current roster? What about misses on depth picks? And how much pressure does that put on current GM Omar Khan in NFL free agency and this year's NFL draft?Later, they get into the Post-Gazette's interactive Steelers NFL draft big board of top prospects that fit the team's needs. Why are Jackson Powers-Johnson and Zach Frazier the top picks at center? What about JC Latham and Amarius Mims at offensive tackle and Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell at corner? Then they wrap the show by analyzing the team's first cuts ahead of free agency, including QB Mitch Trubisky, P Pressley Harvin III and OT Chuks Okorafor.

Hour 4: It looks like we have another battle between the national and local media on what the Steelers will do with the quarterback position. The Steelers insiders are poo pooing every outside QB that could be available and are pushing a narrative that Mason Rudolph will be back. What would it take for Rudolph to come back? Why would he want to? If the Rudolph thing was going to happen, why aren't the Steelers openly talking to him right now before free agency sets in? Wouldn't it create an awkward situation for Kenny Pickett and the rest of the locker room? How would the guys feel if that actually happened? 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff doesn't agree with the idea of bringing Mason Rudolph back because of the tension it could cause in the Steelers facility. Jeff said Rudolph really wants to see what's out there and doesn't expect him to come back with his tail between his legs like last season. Jeff doesn't buy into the idea that the Steelers would take a 1st round QB to put added pressure on Kenny Pickett. How stiff will the QB competition be? Does Justin Fields have the potential to take off with the Steelers even though he didn't in Chicago? Jeff would side with Fields, citing his big play ability and potential. Kevin Colbert downplayed the importance of analytics around the NFL. Is it fair to criticize Colbert for how his final years were as the Steelers GM? Is it a bad thing when front office members have too much of an emotional connection to a player? We also got Valentine's Day advice from Paul Zeise.
In this latest episode, Alex and Ryan have the opportunity to sit down with former Steeler's General Manager, Kevin Colbert '75. Kevin talks about his career in the NFL, his time as a student on Troy Hill, and now his current role at NC.
Hour 2 with Dorin Dickerson and Jeff Hathhorn: We make our picks for NFL MVP, Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year. The Philadelphia Eagles went to the Super Bowl last season but fell apart to close this year. Being aggressive wins in football. It wins in sports. The Steelers have been more aggressive than under Kevin Colbert in the first two years with Omar Khan. The Steelers will interview former NFL QB and current Houston Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson for their offensive coordinator position today. Dorin thinks the Steelers could potentially bring in someone they're interviewing for OC as QB coach and passing game coordinator. The FIRST EVER Bechtold Breakdown! Austin recaps four things that happened this week and asks Dorin and Jeff their reaction, plus historical facts that mix into the fold!
Hour 3: The guys reacted to the chat with Mike Florio. We also talked about what we heard from TJ Watt yesterday. It sounds like the new standard is just making it to the playoffs, a goal the baseball team in town might set, but very strange to come from the Steelers. The guys got into the last handful of years of draft picks and how the work of Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin have not put the Steelers in a good position. Why does the mistakes of the front office seem to never fall on Tomlin? Donny asked the guys who they think the betting favorite is to be the next offensive coordinator. Aditi Kinkhabwala from the NFL on CBS joined the show. Aditi reacted to Mike Tomlin announcing his return next season. Aditi expects the Steelers to go outside the box to find their next offensive coordinator and not to hire from within. Aditi talked about the leaders that used to take care of things in Tomlin's locker room and things would be handled internally. Donny Football Debrief – The Browns cleaned house on the offensive side of the ball, following a season when they were tied for 10th in PPG, won 11 games and made the playoffs – all without their starting QB and top tier RB. Bizarre move? Why wouldn't the Steelers follow suit?
In his weekly YouTube appearance, Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise joins host Adam Bittner to discuss the roles of current general manager Omar Khan and former GM Kevin Colbert in the Steelers' recent struggles. Should they share some blame with coach Mike Tomlin? Should three years of ugly NFL draft results from 2020-22 stain Colbert's legacy in Pittsburgh? Did Khan do as well in free agency this year as many people believed? And was it ever reasonable to expect a roster with only few contributors from three years worth of drafts -- a small group that includes Alex Highsmith, George Pickens and Kenny Pickett -- to be of playoff caliber? Our duo tackles those topics as well as the Pirates signings of Martin Perez and Andrew McCutchen; Penn State coach James Franklin's hiring of former Indiana coach Tom Allen as defensive coordinator; and Riverhounds SC's prominent role in the growing fissures between MLS and the USL Championship regarding the future of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Ryan Clark pointed out some ways Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin have screwed up this roster and culture. The guys ran through some ugly draft misses in the last few years of Colbert's tenure. Another clip from Clark also pointed out how different the culture was with the team when he was here versus now. The guys think the weight of Clark's words are heavier because he played for Tomlin and for the organization.
Ray Fittipaldo joined Cook & Joe earlier today and said a Mike Tomlin return next season is only at 50 percent in his mind. The guys compared this current situation to what happened with Bill Cowher in the late 90's. But a point off that – the Steelers were not far removed from a Super Bowl appearance and an AFC Championship game. Is this a crossroads for Art Rooney and the organization? Ryan Clark pointed out some ways Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin have screwed up this roster and culture. The guys ran through some ugly draft misses in the last few years of Colbert's tenure. Another clip from Clark also pointed out how different the culture was with the team when he was here versus now. The guys think the weight of Clark's words are heavier because he played for Tomlin and for the organization. Mullsy got on the radar of Rich Eisen. He @'d him last night following the Steelers embarrassing loss, after Eisen said it would be some of the finest work we saw from Mike Tomlin. More fans gave their takes from Steelers-Pats.
If Mike Tomlin would be fired, how many teams would by lining up to hire him? Peter King joined Cook & Joe today and he still thinks Tomlin is among the best coaches in the NFL. It really seems like national voices don't know that Tomlin has a lot of say in what ingredients make the meal every season. Should the Steelers consider a hard reset at both coach and QB? If Tomlin has multiple sub .500 years, would the narrative change? Were the final years of Kevin Colbert and Ben Roethlisberger something that setback the franchise? HOF Steelers writer Ed Bouchette joined the show. Ed talked about him throwing out the idea to trade Mike Tomlin and why that makes way more sense than firing him. Ed threw out a few teams that could be interested. Ed said it was for sure Art Rooney who made the call to fire Matt Canada, and not Tomlin making the decision. Ed isn't sure Rooney made the right move. Ed said this current time reminds him of the late 80's Steelers under Chuck Noll. Ed thinks Tomlin has to be the guy hiring the assistant coaches and coordinators. Ed talked about some of the recent misses in the draft. Ed expects Kenny Pickett to be the starting QB to begin next season, but he doesn't rule out the Steelers drafting another QB in the 1st round if one slides to them. Donny Football Debrief – The Steelers ‘estimated' injury report is out. Najee Harris was a DNP – is there any risk he misses the game Thursday night?
Former Steelers' GM Kevin Colbert comes on to talk to Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson about James Harrison and Hines Ward being nominees for the hall of fame this season.
The NFL Draft could be Pittsburgh bound in 2026 or 2027. The guys debated if it is an event that is better on TV. Donny said he wants to experience it, but he does wonder what his thought process will be on it by the time he's in his early 30's when it would be in town. The Fan Morning Show had Kevin Colbert on this morning. Poni said he would have had a few difficulties with the interview given the parameters, but gave a shout out to Crowley and Dorin for a good job. We took a look at every current Steeler that was drafted by the team and gave them a grade.
No Pittsburgh Steelers football, no problem on the Renegade Blitz Podcast! Ty Polk and Chris Ward talk with Ryan Scarpino, former Public Relations Specialist for the Steelers from 2010 to 2016. They talk about Ryan's time with the Steelers, his stories of Dan Rooney and his wife Patricia who recently passed away. Other topics include stories of his interactions with Bill Nunn, Troy Polamalu, Kevin Colbert, and more. They also talk about Ryan's first and only experience at the Super Bowl in Dallas with the Steelers PR team and who they'll pick to win Super Bowl 55 in Tampa, Florida.

Omar Khan has made savvy move after savvy move that Donny doesn't think would be the case after Kevin Colbert. Is it fair to ask if time was getting past Colbert in his final few years? Colbert picked Harvin, Colin Holba in the 6th round, Najee Harris in the first round. USA Today writer Jarrett Bailey joined the show to detail his thoughts on the Steelers. He sees the team in great contention to win the AFC North. He thinks a season like Mitch Trubisky had in 2018 with 25 touchdowns and around 10 interceptions would get the Steelers in the playoffs. He likes the Kwon Alexander move as the best signing of the offseason. Patrick Peterson will also be a great short-term addition. Jaylen Warren has earned more carries. When is the right time to accept and embrace fall?
What are your concerns with Desmond King and how will he fit into the Steelers defense? Do you still have worries about the secondary as a whole? Steelers Auction House: Round 3 – Dan Moore starts, Cole Holcomb tackles, Kenny Pickett passing yards. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike shared his hatred for making predictions and picking games. Mike wants the Steelers to almost stay off the radar so they aren't such a hot playoff pick, but he loves what they've done in the off-season to mix with what is already there. Mike said if Kenny Pickett is good, the Steelers will be good – it's that simple. Mike didn't have doubts that the Steelers would find someone great to fill the shoes of Kevin Colbert and they certainly seemed to find that in Omar Khan. Mike explained the comment last week about Pickett being handed down by the Football Gods. The guys asked Mike how good a QB has to be to win a Super Bowl and why they don't all have to be as good as Patrick Mahomes – they have to be a guy that occasionally makes plays on the fly and sometimes in big moments. We rehashed the conversation with Pat Narduzzi yesterday and talked about why Pitt and Penn State don't play each other.

Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin explained the team's plan to lean more on the run game in 2023 by pointing to the increasing trend of running the football across the NFL. The Steelers already have Najee Harris to lead the way at running back and have invested in the interior of the offensive line with Mason Cole, James Daniels and Isaac Seumalo.
