As I've gotten older, I've been learning how to reclaim my pride in my skin color. I talk about how while encountering racism has been hard, I'm also hopeful. I also go over how representation isn't just something that can be done better in media, but also in our churches! I believe church should be the most diverse place and I give solutions on how to make that happen. And in our Bible section I read Genesis chapter 7.

In this week's episode, I talk about some of my pet peeves regarding this pandemic and how a lot of it reminds me of this week's Bible reading in Genesis 6! I talk about how this chapter isn't just about animals or how God was displeased with mankind - it's also about meeting the moment. I also talk about how Christianity isn't the only religion with a flood story and what that means in terms of the Bible's credibility.

On today's episode, my wife makes her debut! In our conversation, we talk about how while we both came from somewhat similar backgrounds in our faith for better and for worse, we are also hopeful in building a different life than the ones we grew up in. Today I talk about how the best thing to do sometimes with our enemies, is to let them go. It ain't easy, but it's possible! We also continue our series in Genesis Chapter 4 where the Bible goes over what's considered "The Fall of Man" and how snakes have always been the worst.

In this week's episode, I talk about whether or not I'll ever start going back to church - why or why not? What can I say, there's a lot there! In the Bible Talk section, I'll also continue in this series going through Genesis where we finally get to meet Adam and Eve in chapter 2 and I talk about what that has to do with us as people and our purpose on this planet!

Ever get frustrated when something is dominating the news cycle and the church deliberately stays out of the conversation and doesn't give guidance on how navigate it?    In the first half of this episode, I talk about how the labor shortage/crisis is because people are finally taking a stand and advocating for their worth. People deserve to be treated with dignity at their jobs, period. I also talk about my experience switching jobs during the pandemic and how it's okay for people bet on themselves.    In the second half, we start our Bible journey in Genesis chapter 1! What does it mean God says, "Let us make mankind in our own image"? This is an introduction to myself and what kind of podcast this is! My name is Michael Carnes and I have a Masters Degree in Theology and Christian Counseling with the hope of bringing a progressive voice to the Christian church as well as creating a safe space for those willing to listen.  In this episode, I talk about what motivated me to start this podcast: With church attendance and religious affiliation trending down as time goes on, another trend that runs parallel is that church leadership looks less like the generations that make up the bulk of the population. As data shows that clergy is only getting older, it also shows that clergy aren't willing to give the reins to younger generations - which could be one of many systemic problems that turns people away from church.
