Psychedelic Presence: How to Heal the Places Words Can't Reach

Be. Play. Love.

There are many ways we try to heal. Therapy, meditation, breathwork, movement, and mindset work - just to name a few.  These paths are powerful, transformative, and often life-changing. But sometimes, despite all the tools and effort, there are places within us that remain untouched, places our intellect can't quite reach. We're exploring one such threshold, where healing stops being something we do and becomes something that happens to us at a cellular level.  Where transformation drops from the head into the body through the quiet, mystical intelligence of mushrooms. Journeying with and surrendering to mushrooms isn't an escape from reality, but rather a deeper entry into it. That's what we've experienced.  In this episode, we share our personal experiences with psilocybin (aka “journey mushrooms”) in a candid, responsible, and deeply moving conversation about transformation, play, healing, and the way wisdom often arrives when we least expect it.   Things You'll Learn In This Episode  -Change doesn't have to be hard We've been told transformation is painful and slow. But what if that's just an old story? What if mushrooms and nature itself could teach us to let go of suffering and embrace ease? -How to love your body in a completely new way From gratitude for ankle bones to releasing years of shame, how can psychedelic journeys help us rewrite our relationships with our bodies in the most unexpected way? -What do you know that you don't know you know Could someone else take a substance and access wisdom from your life? Are we all more connected than we realize?  -From comparison to inner clarity How can a conversation with a pear tree (yes, really) teach us to stop trying to be something we're not and embrace the beauty of who we already are?   About Your Hosts Katie Hendricks, Ph.D., BC-DMT, is a pioneer in body intelligence and conscious loving with over 40 years of experience. Known internationally as a presenter and seminar leader, she focuses on authenticity, responsibility, and appreciation in conscious living. In this blog post, Sarah shares some insights into the last week of Jesus' life, Holy Week, and looks forward to the celebration of Easter. Jesus knew what he was about to face on the Cross; he knew about his eventual Death and Resurrection. Yet, he knew his work before those events was not done; he had to continue to preach to the apostles. In hindsight, probably no one would've expected him to do that; he was facing death! Nowadays, people will say, “If you knew you only had one week left before you died, what would you do?” The usual answers are things like going on a fancy vacation, winning the lottery, and completing items on one's bucket list, but the reality is that most of us don't know when our time will come. On the contrary, Jesus did know what his fate would be when he entered Jerusalem. He knew the importance of his death on the Cross, and he knew it was important for him not to stray from his intentions. The strength shown by Jesus in this Last Supper is one that few could've shown, and it is important for us to recognize as we continue through Holy Week. As we finish up our Lenten season, I hope that you all have taken some time to deepen your relationship with Christ and reflect on the importance of the season in your own heart. May these last few days of Lent guide you through some of the darkest days of our Church into the glory of the Resurrection. I hope you all have a wonderful Easter celebration! Author:Sarah Harrigan is the Manager of Communications and Special Programs for the Catholic Apostolate Center where she coordinates the promotions and logistics of various groups and visitors coming to our Green Hill facility.  She also assists with the day-to-day operations of Green Hill and other administrative duties and is responsible for the creation and publication of our Center newsletter.   Follow us:The Catholic Apostolate CenterThe Center's podcast websiteInstagramFacebookApple PodcastsSpotify Fr. Martha S. Jones grew up feeling her Black identity was obvious to all who saw her. But weeks into college, a Black Studies classmate challenged Jones's right to speak. Suspicious of the color of her skin and the texture of her hair, he confronted her with a question that inspired a lifetime of introspection: “Who do you think you are?” Now a prizewinning scholar of Black history, Jones delves into her family's past for answers. In every generation since her great-great-great-grandmother survived enslavement to raise a free family, color determined her ancestors' lives. But the color line was shifting and jagged, not fixed and straight. Some backed away from it, others skipped along it, and others still were cut deep by its sharp teeth. Journeying across centuries, from rural Kentucky and small-town North Carolina to New York City and its suburbs, The Trouble of Color: An American Family Memoir (Basic Books, 2025) is a lyrical, deeply felt meditation on the most fundamental matters of identity, belonging, and family. These days, large-scale high-production music festivals take over major cities and regularly attract crowds of every genre — including the current version of Lollapalooza that draws a casual 400,000 people to its resident Chicago stomping grounds. But kick it back a few decades and this kind of maximalist mega-show wasn't quite the norm it is now, especially for musical tastes outside of the mainstream. In their second collaborative book, Lollapalooza: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock's Wildest Festival, music journalists Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour flash back to when the Lollapalooza we know now was a new tour concept bringing 1990s alternative artists and ideas center stage. Lollapalooza first transports readers back to the festival's origins – a 20+ city summer sprawl highlighting alternative music, art, and counterculture, conceived by Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band Jane's Addiction. From 1991-1997, this breakthrough tour shifted the scope of live music experiences and helped forge a new path for the decade's subcultures to reach the masses and the media. Bienstock and Beaujour have compiled hundreds of new interviews to dig into the dirt of how the historic festival came into being at every level – from headlining artists and record label execs to tour organizers and promoters to freakshow performers, stage crews, and roadies. Lollapalooza is packed with gritty details of an era of shows that defied genres and drew crowds across style lines. Music, art, and politics drawing from alt-rock, goth, industrial, metal, punk, hip-hop, EDM, and avant-garde explorations – all coming together under one big tent. Featuring original interviews with iconic artists like Green Day, Patti Smith, Rage Against the Machine, Ice-T, Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Metallica, and many more, this collection amplifies voices that helped shape generations of contemporary thinkers, creative activists, and live music audiences. Journeying through 90s nostalgia, uncensored first-hand accounts, and the long-term reverberations of a groundbreaking tour, Bienstock and Beaujour document a high-impact chapter of modern American music. A VIP pass to the action onstage and backstage, on the road and behind the scenes – Lollapalooza details the cultural shift of the alternative rock revolution and the echoes still heard through concert crowds today. Richard Bienstock is a journalist, musician, and author whose work has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Spin. He is the executive editor of Guitar Aficionado magazine and former senior editor of Guitar World and has authored and co-authored books including Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and Slash: An Intimate Portrait.  Tom Beaujour is a journalist, music producer, and engineer who has been featured in television shows like Orange is the New Black, A Handmaid's Tale, and Criminal Minds. He is a co-founder and former editor-in-chief of Revolver and has contributed to Rolling Stone, the New York Times, Blender, and Billboard. He is the co-author of Nöthin' But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the '80s Hard Rock Explosion, alongside Richard Bienstock. This week, we continue our Lent series, Journeying with Jesus, by turning to what is often called the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Pastor Joe offers that this text is more for religious folk, and could be named, as others have suggested, the Parable of the Elder Son or the Parable of the Forgiving Father. Check out how this text encourages us into resistance through this season of Lent.

The crucifixion stands as history's ultimate demonstration of sacrificial love—a moment when the sinless Son of God willingly suffered what was rightfully ours to give us what could never be ours through our own efforts.Journeying through the religious and political trials Jesus endured reveals a profound truth: the Creator of the universe stood silent before His accusers, accepting false charges, mockery, and brutal treatment that our sin deserved. Though declared innocent multiple times by both Pilate and Herod, the crowd demanded His crucifixion instead of Barabbas, an actual insurrectionist and murderer—a powerful picture of the substitution at the heart of our salvation. This "great exchange" offers believers five extraordinary gifts purchased at the cross. Through expiation, our sin is completely removed, liberating us from crushing guilt and shame. Through propitiation, God's righteous anger toward sin is fully satisfied, assuring us that no sin is too grievous to be forgiven. Through justification, we're declared righteous despite our imperfections, giving us a fresh start not just once but daily. Through reconciliation, we're brought back into relationship with the Father we ran from, providing the family connection our hearts crave. Through imputation, we're clothed in Christ's perfection, addressing our deepest feelings of inadequacy. These aren't theological abstractions but practical, life-changing realities available to anyone who comes with empty hands and an open heart. Whatever your struggle today—whether shame over past mistakes, doubt about God's forgiveness, need for a fresh start, longing for family, or feelings of never measuring up—the cross offers precisely what you need. Will you reach out and receive what Jesus suffered so greatly to give you? If you want to learn more about the MidTree story or connect with us, go to our website HERE or text us at 812-MID-TREE.

Our Creator God is true north. The primary landmark that we should always be able to see is, “I am created body and spirit. Wonderfully and fearfully made! Finally, alignment with our community brings us full circle in our life. Physical drives and desires can't be “running the show.” The human spirit cannot be in denial of the life of one's body. Healthy self-awareness is to live in harmony with one's total self - body & spirit. These alignments are the source of immunity to a life of deceiving others through out own self-deception. Alignment is wholeness in our community and world. Scriptures include Hebrews 11:1-3, 6; 2Thessalonians 5:23-24; 1Peter 2:11-12; 2Timothy 3:1-15; and James 2:26.Support the showTonyKafka on Patreon

This is an encore presentation of a previous episode, originally airing in August 2023. --- The two sounds Tommy Prine says he remembers most growing up were having the AM radio on or his father (renowned singer/songwriter John Prine) workshopping tunes at the kitchen table. Journeying through adolescence, his eclecticism later manifested through acts like Outkast and System of a Down. But now, on the heels of This Far South — his debut album — Tommy has found his own unique voice that marries his mom's Irish wisdom and his dad's dry Midwestern/Southern wit. On today's show, Tommy shares why Radiohead's “Videotape” speaks to him, his experiences working with Nashville talents Ruston Kelly and Gena Johnson on This Far South, and how the artwork for this album feels like both an ending and a beginning. San Francisco author Brittany Newell's novel “Soft Core” explores the city's underbelly — while making its tech bros minor characters. With pinpoint descriptions of the sweat on a west-bound Muni in October, the ceiling of the sometimes-cool, sometimes-not Makeout Room and the vinyl seats of the now-shuttered Silver Crest Diner, Newell writes of the city as lived by her protagonist, a stripper and dominatrix. And she pushes back on the negative narratives of the city she loves, drawing from San Francisco's rich history of sex and love to argue the city's not dead — and not just for the very rich. She joins us to share her San Francisco and to hear yours. Guest: Brittany Newell, writer and performer living in San Francisco, author of the new novel, “Soft Core”

TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome, dear listeners, to today's edition of the Daily Radio Bible podcast, where we embark on our 51st day of traversing the scriptures together. In today's episode for February 20th, 2025, we delve into key passages from Numbers 7, Psalm 23, and Acts 27. Join us as we explore the ancient rituals and offerings presented by the leaders of Israel in the book of Numbers, find solace in the comforting words of Psalm 23, and sail through turbulent seas alongside Paul in the book of Acts. Host Hunter reflects on themes of survival, faith amidst the storms of life, and the abiding presence of Jesus through it all. We conclude with a time of prayer and meditation, focusing on God's mighty power guiding our purpose and bringing peace to the world. So sit back, open your hearts, and be encouraged as we journey through the Bible together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The storms of life and the greater Jonah. I love stories of the sea, the tales of ships caught in perilous gales and the human fight for survival amidst the storm. In our reading today, we encountered one such story with Paul on his tumultuous journey to Rome, a tale etched into the annals of struggle and divine providence. But more than just an adventure on the sea, it draws profound parallels with our own life journeys. The scripture brings to mind another maritime story from the Bible, the story of Jonah. Jonah knew that the storm besieging the ship was of his own making, declaring to those around him, "Throw me into the sea, and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault." Jonah surrendered himself to the waves for the salvation of those onboard. But then, one greater than Jonah came. Jesus spoke of himself in this way, marking a divine revelation—greater than Jonah is here! Jesus was speaking of the ultimate storm, the tempest of life that no human escapes. And unlike Jonah, Jesus willingly threw himself into the storm of death, sinking into the depths for our deliverance and redemption. He's the one who calms the seas not just around us, but within us. Fear not, for even in the depths where many of us have sunk, Jesus meets us there. He stands amidst the waves, ensuring us we do not face them alone. The waters of life may be turbulent, but he is with us always. When I face storms, those moments where life's seas rage, may I remember the greater Jonah who has conquered the storm on my behalf, and trust him to navigate my way safely through. That's the prayer I hold dear for my own soul, my family—my wife, daughters, and son—and that's the prayer that I have for you, dear listener. May the steadfast presence of our savior, the one who sank into the worst storm of all, be your assurance and peace. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL
