A short one this week as Clive is enjoying a lovely few days away without his motorcycles... But we managed to squeeze in a conversation and catchup. Do you need to plan a motorcycle adventure trip? Heading off for a few days on the TET? Then this is theseries of podcasts you need to listen to. Have you packed your waterproof pyjamas? No I thought not.
Is it possble to talk too much on a podcast? Our dissection of trip planning has now been divided into 2, or possibly 3 parts. Part 1 barely even touches the surface, but we had fun talking around where to go and how far you should expect to get each day. We are delighted that Greg Villalobos and Paul Jennings were able to join us. Thanks Chaps. Hope you like it... Here are the links to Greg and Noel's films that we touch upon, Finding Grandma https://youtu.be/QCRI7YEAJZ4 F_Roads of Iceland https://youtu.be/3WHX1sXunJg
The third and final installment of the beginners guide to trail riding. Noel manages to log in, and only 20 minutes late. Alex and Will talk trail tech and leave us old duffers wondering what's so wrong with maps. The trail is long and all is well with the world, apart from that new strain of Covid...
Welcome to part II of the beginners guide to trail riding. Looking for somewhere to ride and some new pals to ride with? We cover the TRF and the TET, 2 of the best available resources for finding trails, riding mates and infinite adventures through 30 countries and 72k kilometers across the whole of Europe, andback
Here we go, again, with listener Alex and mate Wil. We have tried to create a beginners guide to trail riding (in a few parts). Everything you need to know but were too afraid to ask. Let us know what you think. What have we missed? What have we got wrong? We certainly aren't experts and everybody has a different opinion, but we hope we can point a few people in the right direction...
We are back again, apologising again, but ill health, all good now, and a broken laptop have conspired against us, but here we are... In this episode we de-brief our recent trip around the north of England to celebrate Greg's 40th, (I know! Doesn't he look older!)which is captured in the marvelous film which accompanies this podcast -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAXg6xfw-YI We definitively decide which is the best bike, maybe not, and Noel forgets his golden rules for camping, but then remembers it's all about not changing your underpants. Do podcasts really get any better?
It's been a while, sorry for being a bit useless. Life is very busy despite lock-down... This is part one of the story of our cancelled trip to the Spanish Pyrenees, where we went to the north east and west of our own fair island. Fun was had, beer was drunk, bikes were discussed, disaster was averted. Love was shown to the KTM 125 EXC (even by Noel) and Star Wars. Ever wondered what blokes talk about around a campfire? It's probably less interesting than you think. (CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE)
We're back for season 2, sorry, it's been a while. But we think you are going to like this one. We witter on for a bit before handing over to Steve Stout and some very long standing members of Cumbria TRF, Steve and Roger, who have been riding since the sixties, before the birth of the TRF. They tell us about their earliest riding experiences and some great stories from over 50 years of trail riding. This is part 1, more to follow, not sure how many, depends on when the stories run out...
We are really happy to welcome serial traveler Helen Lloyd to the podcast for this the 9th Trail and Adventure Motorbike Podcast. Helen has ridden on nearly all the continents and has published two great books on her travels by bicycle through Africa and along the Road of Bones to Magadan, before she saw the light and got a bike with an engine. Helen has managed to achieve an enviable, sustainable life where she can spend most of her time on the road. Find out how she manages it...
Chris Bone talks us through his amazing 5 month trip from Yorkshire to the southern most tip of south Africa, crossing 25 countries. Whilst not swimming with crocodiles, nor meeting the Christmas vacationing gorillas, nonetheless Chris tells some great stories like the ones where he ignored some machete wielding 'amateur bandits' and ran away from a drunken immigration official. We get to the bottom of daily life on the road in Africa and ponder the continuing existence of old overland motorbikes.
In this episode we welcome, or I should say I welcome, as poor Noel is sick, Tim Cooper of 'UKJeeper' fame. Tim has recently ridden 11,000 miles in 6 weeks across the Trans America Trail. Amongst the many top TAT tips Tim tells us (t'alliteration!) how he flew with his bike to Canada and back for not much more money than the price I was recently quoted to get my bike shipped from Manchester to southern Spain! I hope you enjoy it, if you did, please let us have any feedback on our Facebook page. Cheers.
In this long awaited 6th episode we are trialing our new recording equipment, which will hopefully banish bad sound quality for ever. Noel has been scouting new TET trails in northern Spain whilst being chased by wild boars. We visit the bike show, and in our imaginations, come away with a Honda CRF250L, a KTM 690 Adventure, the new Norton Atlas Scrambler and a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. We ponder whether AJP have made the best TET bike ever (AJP PR7 Adventure), discuss emotional attachments to inanimate objects and our differing views on, well, everything, but especially safety gear.
We are joined by Steve Stout and Lucy Dunn. Steve was the driving force behind the re-building of the Old Coach Road in north Cumbria. From the TAT to the TET, Steve has traveled and worked all over the world and tells us some great tales from his time in places like Antarctica, and why he is opposed to HEP schemes in Albania. The sound quality is a bit rubbish, sorry, we need to improve our microphone technique! But Steve tells a very informative and instructional story of how he managed and funded the work on the Old Coach Road. If you contributed, it's a fine way of finding out where your money went.
We welcome an unexpected guest to the Trail and Adventure Motorbike Podcast for episode 4; Peter Gray the founder, director and guide at Wilderness Wheels Morocco. I am a big fan of WW Morocco, and recommend everybody makes a trip to north Africa. The place and the riding is fantastic. Peter gives us a flavour of what to expect if you make it out there. www.wildernesswheels.com
Welcome to episode 3, in which we talk to film maker and media guy for both the TRF and Adventure-Spec, Greg Villalobos. We find out about Greg's biking history and get some great tips on how to make an adventure motorcycle film. We hope you enjoy it, we think this episode is probably our best yet... Greg's films can be found here - https://vimeo.com/gregoryvillalobos or here - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRE4yUA0-aoWk_7X2hvjRp5AqqRxYxO49 And the Hunt for the Wild here -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX9-A3wSXY8&feature=youtu.be
Welcome to our second podcast. We recorded this one on location at a Lake District log cabin, near a river. Sadly the sound of the river was terrible, so we had to apply some noise reduction, which has distorted the sound somewhat. We hope you don't find it too distracting. We are new to this, and are not professionals, so bear with us, we will get better!
This is our first podcast. We spend far too long talking about ourselves, but it seemed sensible to let you know who we are. We would love to hear from you, so let us know what you think and the type of thing you would like us to cover. Who would you like us to interview? What events would you like us to talk about etc.
