That evening my two colleagues had gone back to the room and I got chatting to the night manager who was probably in his 80's at the time. He was ex-servicemen with a lot of stories, and his family apparently used to own the whole estate, but he sold it and just stayed on when his wife passed away. After a few drinks and a chat, I had told him about what had happened in our room the previous night. “When I was in my teens, one of my friends lived in an old farmhouse on a road named after the original owner, Seth Morehouse. One evening, we were in her room and the radiator started gurgling. On this Freedom Friday, we wrapped up our weekly theme, “What is God’s Will for My Life?” with a discussion about turning from the world and choosing to serve and fear the Lord. We turned to Joshua 24:15, where we see Joshua tell the Israelites that they must choose whom they will serve: the world or the Lord. Joshua made it very clear who he serves as he said, “But as for me and my household, we serve the Lord.” We then turned to the phone lines to ask listeners to share a time they had an “as for me” moment when they chose to serve the Lord over the idols of man. Then we had Dr. Erwin Lutzer join us to discuss how to see the sovereignty of God in the face of unanswered prayers and not get discouraged by them. Dr. Lutzer is Pastor Emeritus of Moody Church. He is also the featured speaker on two radio programs: Running to Win and Songs in the Night. He also wrote several books, including his latest book, “Why Doesn’t God Answer My Prayers?” Then we had Bill Gaither join us to discuss his experience and motivation for serving the Lord through music. Most of these events occurred in my bedroom at night, but increasingly I had minor experiences out and about in daytime, such as faint crawling and shuffling sensations on my head and face. I tried on all the ‘normal' explanations – creaking old house, wind, sleep paralysis, hypnogogia, etc. – but none of them were a fit for most of what I experienced. I was left to conclude that I had a poltergeist.
