Welcome Dave Yeast the UNOFFICIAL LOUNGE. Dave Yeast has served as The Big West baseball's coordinator of officials since May of 2015. He serves the Pac-12 and WAC in the same capacity. Dave served as the NCAA's National Coordinator of Baseball Umpires for twelve years from 1996 until 2008. A two-time NCAA Division I College World Series umpire, Yeast also worked 23 Division I conference tournaments, 13 NCAA Division I regional tournaments, and one super regional. Dave represented the United States internationally for numerous events, including the 1996 Olympic Games, the 1993 and 1999 Intercontinental Cups, and the 1990 World Championships. Yeast was named the 1999 International Baseball Federation Umpire of the Year by the International Baseball Federation. In 2005 the American Baseball Coaches Association recognized Dave with their Meritorious Service Award and in 2008 the NCAA honored Dave with a pregame ceremony before the National Championship Game and presented him with their Distinguished Service Award. In 2011 Dave was inducted into the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021. Yeast's experience also includes over 10 years of officiating collegiate football and basketball. He was selected to work the NCAA Division II football championships in 1998 and 1999. He has also worked as an Instant Replay Communicator for the NFL from 2008-2015. Anne M. Blaschke, an Associate Lecturer in the American Studies Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a lecturer in the Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women and Sexuality at M.I.T., is a historian of modern American political culture. She researches and teaches the history of race, gender, diplomacy, capitalism, and sport in American politics. Blaschke is currently completing her first book, “Foxes, Not Oxes: Women's Athletics in American Political Culture.” Her book tells the story of Black female college students who created an elite women's track and field network between 1888 and 1988, arguing that in the increasingly politicized venue of sport, women athletes of color presented themselves as highly feminine political actors who shaped a diverse, gender-conscious network of political and diplomatic influence. After the passage of Title IX, furthermore, women athletes across race advocated for fair pay in an increasingly neoliberal market. Blaschke is also working on a new book, “The Children of Title IX,” which traces the landmark 1972 law's far-reaching impact into the 2000s. A disabled athlete, Blaschke has written and spoken widely on the historical context of Title IX and the #MeToo Movement. We have retired #NFL Line Judge #56 Ron Baynes in the UNOFFICIAL Lounge. Baynes was an SEC and NFL official for 26 years and worked two Super Bowls (XXIX and XXXIII). He has been Supervisor of NFL Officials, USFL, and XFL. He was the 2011 winner of the Art McNally Award. He was a former high school football and baseball coach that crossed over to the dark side officiating. He played college at Auburn University where he was a three-year starter on the football team (1962-1965) and a two-year starter on the baseball team (1963 & 1964). He was Second Team All-SEC as a defensive end.
