This man is a TWO TIME lung transplant recipient, and he is still outchea running races, speaking publicly (well, prior to COVID), winning awards, and now he is about to start a podcast with a couple of friends. “I couldn't hear. I couldn't think. He was very matter of fact. He said, ‘You have a complete medial meniscus root tear. That means your meniscus tore off the bone. You need surgery — not today, but in the next couple days. Tokyo isn't an option.'” Professional Puma-sponsored runner Aisha Praught Leer was living every athlete's dream this summer. She'd secured her spot on Jamaica's Olympic team, and was training in St. Moritz with her Team Boss teammates Emma Coburn and Cory McGee. She was feeling fit. Fast. Ready to race the 1500 in Tokyo. But then, just a few days before boarding the plane to Japan, Aisha was warming up before a track workout when she felt a pop in her knee. That pop turned out to be a torn meniscus. ("Like meniscus fully dangling off the bone," Aisha explains.) In this conversation, Aisha reflects on that day at the track in Chiavenna, and talks about what it's like when all of your dreams are ripped away from you in an instant. She talks about her decision to race anyway, and talks about what she says was the hardest part of this injury. (It wasn't the race. It was calling her loved ones.) Plus, Aisha — who is now two weeks post-op — discusses her surgery, her recovery, and her big dreams for what's next. SPONSOR: Oiselle — Use code ONTHERUN for 15% off. Ep 590 - David Page - Two-Time Emmy Winner of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives - Two-time Emmy winner David Page changed the world of food television by creating, developing, and executive-producing the groundbreaking show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Before that, as a network news producer based in London, Frankfurt, and Budapest, he traveled Europe, Africa, and the Middle East doing two things: covering some of the biggest stories in the world and developing a passion for some of the world's most incredible food. Show-producing Good Morning America, he was involved in a substantial amount of food coverage, including cooking segments by Emeril Lagasse. Creating Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and hands-on producing its first eleven seasons took him deep into the world of American food—its vast variations, its history, its evolution, and especially the dedicated cooks and chefs keeping it vibrant. His next series, the syndicated Beer Geeks, dove deep into the intersection of great beer and great food. Hill is a four-letter word no longer; Holly Brooks, a two-time Olympian and two-time winner of the Mount Marathon, inspires us to embrace the climb . Among other things, Holly explains: —The importance being aware of your self-talk; —The concept of Central Governor (why your brain often says quit before your body is ready); —How to reframe a tough workout to focus on the benefits; and —Why dividing a hill into thirds can help you conquer it more efficiently.
