Panel moderator and Co-Chair of Viante New Mexico, Deena Crawley, fosters a bipartisan conversation between democrat, Senator Michael Padilla, and republican Jim Townsend to identify the areas of agreement.  Deena spent the first portion of her career inside an advertising agency and has worked in a variety of industries including retail, public health, automotive, real estate, higher education, and finance. She is a two-time Effie finalist, a former President of the American Advertising Federation–NM and has been inducted into the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management Hall of Fame as a Young Alumni. In her current role as Chief of Staff, Marketing Director and Executive Team Member at Dion’s, a regional restaurant based in Albuquerque, she nurtures all brand touch points including advertising, communications, community relations, and social media. She is a volunteer for Make A Wish New Mexico, a mentor for Fathers Building Futures, and is a graduate of Leadership NM. She cares deeply about her home state of New Mexico and works hard to improve the things that cause people to consider moving away.  Representative Jim Townsend a native New Mexican, born and raised in an agriculture family in Southeastern New Mexico. Representative Townsend began his career in the oil and gas industry with Southern Union Co and then the last 33 years with Holly Corporation, Holly Energy Partners and HollyFrontier. He retired in 2011 as Senior Vice President of a Holly Energy Partners and Vice President of Holly Frontier. Representative Townsend led the operations of Holly Energy Partners for many years and led the single largest capital investment of HollyFrontier in the formation of UNEV Pipeline Company and partnership developed between Sinclair Transportation and Holly Corporation, approximately $500M.  He has served on the Board of Directors for Holly Energy Partners serving on the Conflicts Committee and Personnel  Committee. Representative Townsend was elected to represent New Mexico House District 54 in 2015 and was named by his peers as the house minority leader in 2019. Senator Michael Padilla grew up in Los Padillas, a rural farming community that his family helped settle over 150 years ago, and is located inside of the district he represents. Padilla has always been involved in the Democratic Party of New Mexico, serving as a precinct chairman, ward chairman, county central committee member and state central committee member. He has also served on numerous boards and commissions prior to becoming a senator, including Youth Development Incorporated, Special Olympics New Mexico, Junior Achievement of New Mexico, Association of Commerce and Industry of New Mexico, the New Mexico State Workforce Development Board, and several others. Senator Padilla founded Altivus CRM Solutions, a contact center and consulting firm, in 2000. The company specializes in building contact centers and providing a number of operational consulting services affecting people, process, and technology. He still serves as Chairman and CEO of the company.

Annemarie Ciepiela Henton, APR, is the Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for Albuquerque Economic Development Inc. Annemarie holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arizona, and earned her Accreditation in Public Relations from the Universal Accreditation Board in New York in 2014.Annemarie speaks nationally on the topics of emotional intelligence and communication in the multigenerational workplace. She is a co-founder of Albuquerque’s “Stop Bagging, Start Bragging” campaign, which empowers Albuquerque residents to play a role in the city’s talent attraction and retention strategy. Jesse Herron is the owner of Painted Lady Bed & Brew and co-founder of Albuquerque Tourism & Sightseeing Factory (AT&SF): parent company to ABQ Trolley Co., Albucreepy Downtown Ghost Walk, Duke City Pedaler and ABQ in a Box. As one of the “trolley guys,” he has the distinct pleasure of introducing people to Albuquerque. Born in Albuquerque, his love of the city started at a very young age. He can fondly remember watching cartoons where Bugs Bunny made that famous wrong “left toin at Albukoykee.” Herron felt a great sense of pride in his city and wanted to make sure that Bugs never got lost in Albukoykee again (hence the start of ABQ Trolley Co.). Herron graduated from the University of New Mexico with a MBA in Travel & Tourism Management and International Management in Latin America. He sits on the Lodgers Tax Advisory Board, Downtown Albuquerque MainStreet and Visit Albuquerque. When he is not on a trolley, he collects corny Albuquerque souvenir t-shirts, eats green chile (on just about everything), and cheers for the Lobos. Former Chief Gorden Eden, speaks on behalf of the law enforcement perspective. Former Judge Sandra Price from Northern New Mexico gives her take based off her experience as a District Attorney and then Judge. And, Joseph Shaw offers his experience as a former felon, now Executive Director of Father’s Building Futures. Chief Gorden Eden has extensive experience in Law Enforcement and is known as a “career crime-fighter”. He started as a State Police patrol officer in the 1970s. He then spent eight years in federal law enforcement as the U.S. marshal for New Mexico. Then he worked for Gov. Susana Martinez, heading the state Department of Public Safety, which oversees State Police. Most recently he was the Chief of Police at the Albuquerque Police Department.   Sandra Price was a district Judge in the 11th Judicial District in Farmington, NM from 2004 to 2017. She specializes in Children’s Court and is a member of the Children’s Law Section of the New Mexico Bar Association. She earned a law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law. In 1996, she was the first women elected as San Juan County district attorney and served in the position from 1997 to 2001. Price worked at the San Juan County District Attorney’s Office for 15 years as a prosecutor.                 Joseph Shaw is the current executive director of Albuquerque nonprofit, Father’s Building Futures. Their mission is “to ensure parents experiencing barriers from incarceration have the best opportunities for stability: emotionally, socially, and financially”, the project is training men with tremendous barriers to succeed in New Mexico’s workforce. Joseph started with Fathers Building Futures in December 2012 as a client. Fathers Building Futures is a local nonprofit that focuses on providing on the job training individuals (Fathers) returning home from prison. While incarcerated he started taking the parent reentry classes through Fathers Building Futures to be eligible to participate in the incubator program upon his release. Seth also provides a historical context around why New Mexico is facing its  current issues in the education of New Mexico’s children. Seth is the founder of NMEducation.org, a site dedicated to storytelling, research, and truth telling about local education topics. He is unwavering in commitment to improving New Mexico’s public schools, particularly for students and communities who are least served by the current system. A New Mexican born and raised, Seth is fueled by his upbringing in public housing and public schools. Before becoming a middle school teacher in Bridgeport, Connecticut through Teach For America, Seth triple-majored in English, philosophy and economics at the University of New Mexico, dropping out of Del Norte High School in APS before that.
