Paul was in Las Cruces recently. He gives a brief report about his efforts there and the latest things happening in the City. Paul and Wally also discuss the City's growth potential and economic challenges. Las Cruces is coming after natural gas heating and appliances. Paul recently talked to KOAT TV regarding Gov. MLG's contingency fund and questions about its use. Albuquerque City Council recently considered and rejected a gross receipts tax hike. Paul was in attendance. $3.3 million spent by city of ABQ to renovate apartment steps? As prices drop it is worth noting that NM oil production has been rising. Will that continue? 7 years in and we have ANOTHER judge-ordered remedial plan for New Mexico's education system.
This week, we kick things off with a look at the latest news and roster shuffling throughout the Rockies system. We also take a moment to send love and support to Brenton Doyle.

Paul and Wally discuss the latest on HB 11, formerly known as Paid Family & Medical Leave. A bill to raise alcohol taxes died in committee (HB 417). Are alcohol taxes dead for the session? Speaking of which, the tax bill is/could be the biggest bill yet to drop this session. It could STILL include this and other tax policies and be rammed through by session end. Democrats in the House Energy Committee rejected another opportunity to reform EV rules by overturning MLG's mandate. Bipartisan support for a Medicaid Trust Fund? What does it mean? Paul attempted to testify (virtually) against HB 6. Why and what happened? Today is the 5th anniversary of MLG's first COVID public health emergency. Paul and Wally look at that legacy and the recent NM supreme court decision to ratify it and other emergencies like her anti-gun emergency. Paul will be in Alamogordo on the day of March 26 and we have an exciting event on New Mexico's medical shortage that evening in ABQ as well: Darren White is the latest addition to the Albuquerque Mayoral race. Can anyone knock off Tim Keller?

It's been a week since the Legislature began. Paul has been to Santa Fe twice and discusses what is happening. SB4 (net zero) is one of the craziest bills that will be moving this week. MLG gave her State of the State address. We have some thoughts. The Santa Fe New Mexican did a fact check of the address. RGF is part of a coalition working to defeat Paid Family Leave. Find out more here. Paul had an opinion piece in several media outlets on alcohol taxes and why raising them is unnecessary. New Mexico has the lowest median pay in America: DC workers now make nearly two and a half times as much as the average New Mexico resident. ABQ bus ridership continues to slowly rebound post-COVID. Mayor Keller's latest scheme in downtown Albuquerque is particularly dumb. The WNMU situation keeps getting worse.

I was in Phoenix last week and got to meet with former Gov. Doug Ducey and others. Michelle Lujan Grisham's speaking on behalf of Kamala Harris Democrat convention should disqualify Harris. Meanwhile, NM's oil and gas gravy train keeps rolling along. New Mexico shouldn't be sitting on billions of dollars (contrary to an opinion piece by two legislators). Mayor Keller defends his disastrous management of ABQ's crime problems in op-ed. Merchants in Old Town beg for one patrol a night. New Mexico's education system: a "free" product unwanted by many. Smoke stacks come down at San Juan Generating Station. In "other" news Excel Energy asked customers to conserve energy: Left wing Sarah Silva chosen in Las Cruces area District 53.

Hillary Simms is a virtuosic Canadian trombone player with the esteemed American Brass Quintet and is on faculty at the Julliard School. Hillary's warmth and love of music comes through in this candid interview, from her childhood in Newfoundland to playing on the world's biggest stages, and also the unusual situation she found herself in when her engagement to her husband became a viral sensation in China. As the first woman to join the Amercian Brass Quintet since 1960, Hillary spoke to me about gender disparity in the brass world and some of her strong female role models. Hillary shares wonderful insights for all of us, whether you pursue music as a career or follow a different path, of the need to have self-compassion and have an awareness of the big picture of your life. Hillary has performed as a soloist a couple of times with my orchestra, Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra, and you'll hear us talk about the arc of her career so far as a chamber musician, soloist, educator and busy freelancer. We decided to delay the release of this episode slightly in order to include a wonderful recent recording of the Amercian Brass Quintet, a movement from David Biedenbender's wonderful work Sacred Geometry. This is the first recording of the group with Hillary performing, and you'll find more information and links below. Good news/bad news on jobs for New Mexico. The NIH director acknowledges that no science supported COVID distancing rules (but we did find an amusing old post from Sen Heinrich on social distancing and how to make a cloth mask). A proposed move to shift vote threshold to 40% at city council is sensible and quite arguably "pro-democratic." Paul recently spoke to KOAT about the City's $1.4 billion budget. ABQ to build a 2nd BMX track. 50 year old Albuquerque cigar shop closing its doors.

“Who's Who” In Jazz/Rock Fusion, Lineup For Guitarist's New Album “…Or What?"#jazzfusion #newmusic #newalbum #jazzguitar #rockmusic Adam Nitti, Kirk Covington, Bill Evans, Gergo Borlai and Stephan Maass. What sounds like a “Who's Who” in the present jazz-rock/fusion scene, is actually the lineup for electric guitarist Gerald Gradwohl's new album “…Or What? Gerald has worked with Kirk Covington since 2002, when they recorded the album “ABQ” with Bob Berg, and Gary Willis, the album making big waves in the fusion scene. The idea to make a mutual album with Adam and Kirk was given birth during the tour in 2014 and could now finally be realized this year. Modern recording techniques have made it possible to capture these exceptional musicians together on this album. The sessions and what was captured cannot be described in words here……you'll need to hear the recording. It's stunning. A Jazz, Rock and Funk gumbo combined to make an energetic, and exciting project, that not only showcases the amazing instrumental capabilities of these musicians, but also features the exceptional musicality, and the extraordinary chemistry that this band creates together.Website: https://www.gradwohl.at/Purchase: https://www.hoanzl.at/Bandcamp: https://gradwohl.bandcamp.com/album/gerald-gradwohl-or-whatInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/geraldgradwohl/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/geraldgradwohlofficialX: https://twitter.com/GeraldGradwohl1Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/geraldgradwohlmusicThanks for tuning in, please be sure to click that subscribe button and give this a thumbs up!!Email: thevibesbroadcast@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/listen_to_the_vibes_/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thevibesbroadcastnetworkLinktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastTikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMeuTVRv2/Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheVibesBrdcstTruth: https://truthsocial.com/@KoyoteMonstrosityMonstrosity has celebrity guests, deep paranormal discussions, and comedy gold.Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifyFor all our social media and other links, go to: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastPlease subscribe, like, and share!

Paul was in the Roundhouse on Saturday testifying against HB 41 (Clean Fuel Standard). Another bill heard during that hearing (HB 48) would increase taxes on NM's oil and gas industry. Both passed out of the Committee. Another bill, HB 114 attempts to squash the entire oil and gas industry. MLG's state of the state address was interrupted 3 times by pro-Palestine/anti fossil fuel protests. The Gov. called them "courageous." NM's Film Office produced a study justifying film subsidies. Paul and Wally pick it apart. They are filming in downtown ABQ. We have thoughts. What's wrong with 4 Day School weeks? NM's politicians are pushing for a "progressive" tax system. What does the term mean and how important is it? Even with "free"buses, ABQ bus ridership is far below pre-pandemic numbers (even worse than the Rail Runner). MLG's mind-blowing Reagan Day proclamation.
