In the first segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a listener's question about problems with his existing penile prosthesis. This listener writes, "I had a penile implant put in several years ago and it actually made my penis smaller. When I pump it up, one of the implants in my shaft I'm concerned is going to break the skin or cause pressure problems, which are huge for me because I'm a paraplegic...Can another implant be placed and increase the size of my penis, and how can I fix the problem of too much pressure?" The penile prosthesis is an inflatable silicon device implanted internally and completely concealed. The device is inflated using a pump implanted into the scrotum which, when activated, transfers fluid from a reservoir in your abdomen into the silicon cylinders in your penis to add both length and girth to your erection. The inflated implant produces a rigid and satisfying erection, yet appears natural and soft when not in use. Dr. Mistry explains that the penile prosthesis is an excellent option for addressing a variety of patient concerns from end stage ED to nerve damage from diabetes or neurologic issues. Importantly, he points out that long-term ED actually diminishes the length of the penis over time, so the penile implant can actually help those struggling to achieve erections--no matter the reason--to maintain their size. At Urology Specialists of Austin, our surgical team can expertly place this device and help address any issues that may have arisen with older implants. In answer to this listener, Dr. Mistry says that yes, pressure ulcers can become a concern if the implant shifts and that yes, this is fixable! If you or someone you love would like to learn more about the inflatable penile prosthesis or have their prosthesis checked, please give us a call today! In the second segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee discuss the benefits of a holistic approach to urology. When patients have control over their overall health and medical treatments, they have much better health outcomes. Dr. Mistry also explains the latest in robot-guided laparoscopic surgery when relating the case of a new patient with an 8-inch kidney tumor. After another urologist told her that she would need a huge incision and lose her whole kidney, she sought a second opinion from Dr. Mistry. Fortunately, he was able to offer her the very best, state-of-the-art treatment options. Not only was she able to have the tumor removed laparoscopically while keeping part of her kidney, she had very little down-time during recovery. At Urology Specialists of Austin, we are huge fans of the second opinion. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with any kind of urologic tumor, or is interested in learning more about holistic urology, please give us a call today!Voted top Men's Health Podcast, Sex Therapy Podcast, and Prostate Cancer Podcast by FeedSpot.Dr. Mistry is a board-certified urologist and has been treating patients in the Austin and Greater Williamson County area since he started his private practice, NAU Urology Specialists (now Urology Specialists of Austin), in 2007. In today's episode, host Pete Moore sits down with long-time friend and veteran health club entrepreneur, Mark Rothschild. From launching his first gym in 1995 to navigating the evolving landscape of the HALO (Health, Active Lifestyle, Outdoor) space, Mark shares his journey through the industry's highs and lows—including insights gained through decades of club ownership, expansion, and his own, personal transformation. The conversation dives deep into Mark's shift from traditional gym operations to curating meaningful wellness experiences, like his transformative retreat in Costa Rica. Pete and Mark reflect on the power of disconnecting from daily anxiety, reframing self-care, and the importance of creating supportive communities—both inside and outside the gym. Whether you're a fitness professional, club owner, or someone in search of inspiration for your next chapter, this episode is packed with upfront wisdom, real talk about growth, and a look at what it means to both "lead and heal." Key themes discussed Personal growth through fitness and mental health. Evolution from health club operations to wellness retreats. Mindfulness, meditation, and yoga as transformative tools. Importance of community and supportive environments. Embracing discomfort for personal development. Reframing life's hardships into strength and compassion. A few key takeaways: 1. Transformative Power of Retreats and Mindful Experiences: Marc shared how attending a retreat in Costa Rica was a huge turning point for him, both personally and professionally. He mentioned it challenged him physically and mentally, helping him disconnect from daily anxieties and reconnect with nature, mindfulness, and himself. He now feels pulled to curate similar experiences for others, focusing on true transformation rather than just a "typical" vacation. 2. Embracing Discomfort for Personal Growth: Marc emphasized growth comes from getting out of your comfort zone. Whether it's sharing a bungalow with strangers or pushing through physical pain during the retreat, stepping into discomfort allowed him and others to experience real change and build resilience. 3. Entrepreneurial Spirit vs. "Traditional" Employment: Throughout his career—from opening his first gym in 1995, partnering on joint ventures, to his current pursuits—Marc has always been a serial entrepreneur. He reflected on the importance of building a life and work style true to oneself, especially as he's realized he thrives when running his own show versus working for someone else. 4. A Holistic Approach to Fitness, Health, and Recovery: Marc's perspective on health over the years has shifted to a more holistic view. He talked about the importance of integrating modalities like yoga, Tabata, and strength training with mental and emotional well-being, clean nutrition, and recovery. He suggested that feeling your best is about making cumulative positive choices—what you eat, how you move, and how you care for your mind. 5. Community and Connection Versus "Just a Gym": Marc's clubs (like Rock Creek Sports Club) have found success not just by offering fitness classes and equipment, but by fostering real community. They focus on culture, inclusivity, and kindness, attracting and retaining members who want support, encouragement, and genuine connection rather than just your "standard" gym experience. Story at-a-glance New research shows over 70% of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) patients reported significant symptom improvement with holistic treatment, even when lab tests remained abnormal SIBO develops when digestive metabolism slows down and bacteria migrate where they don't belong, causing bloating, gas and food intolerances Antibiotics often worsen the condition by disrupting gut ecology and triggering candida overgrowth, creating a secondary fungal problem Restricting carbohydrates provides temporary relief but ultimately weakens metabolism; gradually reintroducing simple carbs helps rebuild gut health Addressing underlying causes like low thyroid function, hormone imbalances and poor motility is more effective than simply targeting bacterial overgrowth
