Education On Fire - Sharing creative and inspiring learning in our schools
With over 25 years of experience as a Special Education Teacher, Classroom Teacher, and Principal, Leroy Slanzi has dedicated is life to cultivating relationships built on kindness, empathy, and trust. He believes in the power of leadership to make the world a better place. He has consistently focused on nurturing a positive impact in the lives of students, families, and educators. Currently, he is working for the Lower Nicola Indian Band, feeling proud and fortunate to be in the final stages of his career working alongside Indigenous people. His journey reflects a steadfast commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding in education. His work has been guided by the principles of emotional intelligence, servant & relational leadership, and a growth mindset, which he integrates into every aspect of his life. As he continues to serve and uplift those around me, he does his best to remain humble about the path that has brought him to this point, where he is dedicated to making meaningful connections and advocating for a brighter future everyone in education.Takeaways: The significance of free play in education is paramount, as it fosters emotional attachment and enhances the learning experience for children. Schools that lack strict governmental constraints often witness superior academic performance among students, indicating the necessity for educational reform. The contemporary educational environment necessitates a shift towards integrating technology, rather than banning it, to align with the realities of modern childhood. Emotional intelligence and mindfulness are crucial components of education, as they enable children to cope with stress and persevere through challenges. The decline in free play and structured play has resulted in children entering school with diminished social skills and cognitive abilities, necessitating a reevaluation of the current educational practices. Educators must embrace vulnerability and self-reflection to improve their leadership and foster a supportive learning environment for both teachers and students. In today's fast-paced world, the pursuit of wellness has become increasingly important. As stress levels rise and the demands of modern life take their toll, individuals are seeking effective ways to enhance their physical and mental well-being. One innovative solution that has gained traction in recent years is the use of advanced massage technology, particularly through the introduction of therapeutic massage chairs and portable oxygen devices. One leading provider in this area is Dr. Fuji. The Rise of Massage TechnologyDr. Fuji, a retired orthopedic surgeon with a remarkable career spanning over 40 years, sheds light on the evolution of massage technology. Dr. Fuji introduced his massage chairs to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) nearly 25 years ago, marking a significant milestone in the wellness industry. At that time, global sales of massage chairs were a mere 60,000 units. Fast forward to today, and that number has skyrocketed to approximately 3 million annually in the United States alone. This exponential growth reflects a broader trend toward wellness and self-care, as more individuals recognize the importance of prioritizing their health. The Science of RelaxationOne of the key benefits of innovative massage technology is its ability to reduce stress and promote relaxation. As Dr. Fuji explains, the act of sitting in a massage chair triggers the release of endorphins and other beneficial chemicals in the body, which can alleviate feelings of fatigue and emotional distress. Within just ten minutes of using a massage chair, individuals often report feeling rejuvenated and energized. This immediate impact on mental well-being is crucial in a society where stress-related illnesses are on the rise. The therapeutic benefits of massage chairs extend beyond mere relaxation. They can help alleviate musculoskeletal issues, particularly for those who spend long hours in front of computers-common in today's digital age. Dr. Fuji's experience in Silicon Valley, where occupational injuries related to technology use are prevalent, underscores the importance of integrating wellness solutions into the workplace. Companies like Google have recognized the value of massage chairs for their employees, incorporating them into their wellness programs to enhance productivity and overall job satisfaction.A Holistic Approach to WellnessDr. Fuji's innovative approach to wellness is not limited to massage chairs alone. He has also developed a portable oxygen device that complements the use of massage technology. This device is designed to support recovery and promote anti-aging, allowing users to enhance their wellness routines seamlessly. The concept of combining oxygen therapy with massage therapy represents a holistic approach to health, addressing both physical and mental aspects of well-being.The portability of such devices makes them accessible for everyday use, whether at home, in the office, or during travel. This flexibility encourages individuals to prioritize their wellness, integrating self-care practices into their daily lives. As Dr. Fuji emphasizes, the goal is to create a long-term lifestyle that promotes health and vitality. Conclusion: A Suite of Tools to Improve HealthThe integration of innovative massage technology into the wellness landscape signifies a transformative shift in how individuals approach self-care. With the ability to reduce stress, alleviate physical discomfort, and enhance overall well-being, therapeutic massage chairs and portable oxygen devices offer practical solutions for modern life's challenges. Dr. Fuji is working to bring these features to people in their homes, workplaces, and even public spaces. As the wellness industry continues to evolve, the importance of such innovations cannot be overstated. By embracing these advancements, individuals can take proactive steps toward achieving a healthier, more balanced lifestyle, ultimately fostering a culture of wellness that benefits both individuals and society as a whole.Interview by Don Baine, The Gadget Professor.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy. Today, we're talking about something so many of our clients struggle with: weight loss. Truly, this goes beyond losing weight–it's about guiding our clients towards figuring out how they can feel good in their bodies. How do we do this? By using a holistic approach to weight loss. When our clients focus on counting calories and following trending diets, the journey to better physical health often stays rooted in mindset. Skilled coaches know that thought work can be a great entry point, but if we only focus on the mind, we miss a huge piece of successfully helping our clients. When we can help our clients connect to their bodies and emotions, it reduces stress and overwhelm so they can make choices about what they eat instead of staying dysregulated and feeling out of control. I recently got to talk with Dr. Priyanka Venugopal, the master of Burn Stress, Lose Weight and an OB-GYN physician turned life coach. Her mission to help women feel better from head to toe–with science-based information, not fads and gimmicks–helped inspire this blog, and I can't wait for you to hear her wisdom. This blog and podcast episode center primarily around helping your clients who have a weight loss goal, but it will provide helpful strategies that will allow you to serve any of your clients better. We discuss building awareness, regulating the nervous system, and self-connections–ideas every single coach needs to have tools for in order to help our clients make the transformation they seek.Priyanka is passionate about helping women and supporting moms. Most coaches are, right? Having these roles is an amazing thing, but it can be stressful–that's why our clients come to us. They can have all the information about what would help them feel better, but it's not always easy to know what you truly need to make it happen without the help of a coach. Today, we're diving into the best strategies to help your clients connect their brains to their bodies so they can build awareness and follow through on what they need to feel good.Help your clients transform using a holistic approach to weight lossSo many people hear stories about incredible weight loss transformations, but it's easy to feel disconnected if that is a journey they have not been on yet. As coaches, we know that lasting change is possible for anyone. So how do we remove this block that our clients have and help them finally feel good in their own bodies and minds?Priyanka talked about how, when she first started receiving coaching, the idea that our thoughts create our feelings was so profound for her. Many of us have this same experience–it's a simple concept, but we don't have the awareness of it yet. Why a holistic approach to weight loss is essentialOur thoughts genuinely do influence our feelings, which is one of the many reasons why a holistic approach to weight loss (and coaching in general) is so important. As coaches, we need to look at our clients' mindsets, but it is equally important to understand where we need to address emotions that are rising in the body. This practice will help them separate their internal experience from what is happening on the outside. That separation is powerful as I help my clients attend to the imprints on their nervous systems or emotions. We could talk about this every week with our clients and ourselves, and it would be a lightbulb moment every time. It's our job to help them see that their circumstance does not have power over them so we can attend to what's going on in their mind. How to help your clients

What happens when those who save others need saving themselves? Behind the badge, helmet, or uniform lies a harsh reality few civilians understand: our first responders are suffering in silence.Dr. Heather Twedell (Dr. T), forensic psychologist and founder of F1RST, pulls back the curtain on the devastating toll that repeated trauma takes on police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and dispatchers. With a brother and father in law enforcement, she combines professional expertise with personal understanding to revolutionize how we approach first responder wellness. The statistics are alarming—first responders experience significantly higher rates of suicide, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and divorce than the general population. But Dr. T explains why this happens through a fascinating exploration of how trauma physically changes the brain and body. That smell at a restaurant that suddenly triggers a police officer's fight-or-flight response? That's the brain's danger-detection system at work, months after a traumatic call. Most compelling is Dr. T's innovative approach to healing. F1RST brings together therapists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and even horses to build resilience in our community protectors. The equine therapy program provides immediate feedback on emotional regulation that many participants say brings more awareness than years of traditional therapy.Perhaps most powerful is Dr. T's insight into how first responder trauma affects entire families through "nervous system synchronization"—where a spouse or child unconsciously absorbs the stress and anxiety the first responder brings home. By including families in the healing process, F1RST addresses the ripple effects of trauma that conventional programs miss.Want to support the first responders in your life or community? Listen now to understand what they're experiencing and discover practical ways to help those who've dedicated their lives to helping others.

In this episode of Theologically Fashioned, we take a thoughtful look at the concept of biblical modesty. We explore how modesty has been taught in the church - often reduced to a set of rules focused on women's bodies - and how we can reclaim a more holistic, grace-filled understanding rooted in Scripture. You'll hear about the lasting effects of purity culture, the difference between shame-based teaching and Christ-centered modesty, and how to practically apply a biblical view of modesty in everyday life. Whether you're healing from past messages or simply seeking clarity, this episode offers truth, compassion, and hope.
