Summary In this episode, Tim Gillespie and Alex Bryan discuss the complexity of various issues, including the resignation of Harvard's first black president, the situation in the Middle East, freedom of speech, plagiarism claims, and diversity and gender issues. They emphasize the need for a hermeneutic of complexity and the importance of humility in dealing with complexity. They also explore the role of Jesus in holding all things together and the need for continued engagement with complexity. The episode concludes with a book recommendation and a call to support the podcast. In this episode of the Unapologetics podcast, the importance of emotional intelligence is explored. The conversation delves into the development of emotional intelligence and its impact on relationships and the workplace. Takeaways Complexity is a fundamental aspect of life and faith that should be acknowledged and embraced. A hermeneutic of complexity is needed to navigate the complexities of scripture, faith, and the world. Certainty and simplicity can be tempting, but they often oversimplify complex issues and hinder growth and understanding. Faithfulness involves acknowledging complexity, engaging with it, and holding it in tension. Jesus provides a framework for understanding and navigating complexity, offering a gravitational force that holds all things together. Emotional intelligence is crucial for personal and professional success. Developing emotional intelligence requires self-awareness and empathy. Emotional intelligence plays a significant role in building and maintaining healthy relationships. Emotional intelligence can enhance communication and collaboration in the workplace. In S3Ep8 of the PRP, Adam babbles with seasoned ultra runner, co-founder of the Bad Decisions Track Club, avid burper and Director of Student-Life Sustainability at the University of Michigan, Alex Bryan who has been training for the Pines to Vines 55K on August 20th, 2023. Kelly Wilson, former Division I T&F and XC star, passionate non-diet dietician, retired farmer, and Alex's better half joins the show to offer her take on all things running, life and auto cannablizing turtle burgers… The PRP listenership is regaled with the story behind the genesis of the Bad Decisions Track Club and learns how Alex and his buddy Brian Walline got this jubilant and unique gang of misfits united, aligned, up and “running”. The three take a deep dive on what it means to run for fun and discuss why we should all be leveraging running as a source of wellness and not as a source of anxiety or angst. Sure, set goals, train hard and shoot for the stars, but if you're not having fun while doing so, perhaps it's time to reexamine your relationship with the sport. The conversation then pivots to what Alex and Kelly deem as the most important aspect of running: the relationships that are formed and nurtured with other like minded individuals. From weekly track workouts, to beer miles, to yearly banquets with multiple outfit changes, the real treasure that the turtle burgers have discovered is their relationships with one another. Sarcastic, supportive and everything in between, tune in to learn more about how BDTC has cultivated a culture of obscure but brilliant benevolence for one another. Ummm why is Alex always carrying around a god damn stick with a flag on it?! Is BDTC takin you straight to vibe rehab?? We ouchea jumpin' creek? Whoa, whoa, whoa, who the hell is Rudy Fuck Face? Just how much does Alex love beets?? Who does Kelly love more, Alex or the Old Dirty Bearstard?? Who is Gary Wilson, and why is he such a legend? What on earth is a hasher and how do you catch one?
