This week we talk about Father's Day meals, the mecca of masculinity, and the US Open. We also get to know two new guests to the podcast, Kevin Hughes and Jerry Boutry, and of course, we discuss Acts 17:1-34. The big idea for this week is how the resurrection of Jesus is what opens the mind to truth and belief.
In this sermon, Pastor Aaron preaches this main point: The resurrection of Jesus is what opens the mind to truth and belief.
Send us a message! We read Acts 17 and 18 and watch the gospel collide with jealousy in Thessalonica, careful study in Berea, curiosity in Athens, and conflict in Corinth. We end by asking what kind of listener you are when God's Word challenges you, especially when the message feels familiar instead of new. • Paul reasons from Scripture that Jesus is the Christ • Thessalonica erupts in jealousy and political accusations • Bereans examine the Scriptures daily as a model for discernment • Paul confronts idols in Athens and preaches the Creator and resurrection • Mixed reactions to the resurrection and a few believe • Paul's work and ministry partnership with Priscilla and Aquila in Corinth • God's encouragement to keep speaking without fear • Gallio dismisses the charges and the case fizzles • Apollos grows through humble correction and becomes a powerful advocate At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. In Acts 17:22–31, Paul teaches that our greatest spiritual problem is not a lack of spirituality but misplaced devotion, and that true life is found by turning our attention to the God who has made Himself known through Jesus Christ.

How should followers of Jesus live in a city that does not share their beliefs? Today’s Bible Verse: “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.” — Acts 17:24 Acts 17:24 is part of Paul’s message to the people of Athens, where he introduces them to the one true God. Surrounded by temples, idols, and competing ideas about spirituality, Paul points to a foundational truth: God is the Creator of everything. He is not limited by buildings, traditions, or human understanding. He is the Lord of heaven and earth. Want to listen without ads? Today’s Bible Verse: “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.” — Acts 17:26–27 Acts 17:26–27 reveals a powerful truth about humanity and God’s purpose for our lives. Speaking in Athens, Paul explains that God intentionally created people, nations, places, and times in history—not randomly, but with purpose. At the center of that purpose is relationship: that people would seek Him and find Him. Want to listen without ads? Each of us is much more than what someone has defined us as, and so is Memphis. Perspectives that reduce us to rich and poor, black and white, immigrant and native, safe and dangerous, gay or straight, flatten 3-dimensional lives, but like individuals, Memphis rejects oversimplified definitions. When a person can spend time looking and listening for more, a gradient and abundant picture of Memphis emerges. As we conclude our series Miracle Everywhere, we do so by opening our hearts to seeing the miracle of our beloved and beleaguered city.

In Acts 17, the early Christians were accused of “turning the world upside down.” Why? Because they preached a message Rome could not tolerate: there is another King—Jesus. This wasn’t private spirituality. It was a public declaration that challenged the authority of Caesar himself. That’s why mobs formed. That’s why rulers panicked. That’s why the charge was treason. In this episode, Mike D’Virgilio breaks down what Acts 17 really means—and why the same message still disrupts the world today. The gospel doesn’t just change hearts. It confronts kingdoms.
