Today we look at how Paul found peace in Jesus amidst the storm, and then was able to embody that peace and point others to Christ.

Rev. Cyril A. Stevens – Sermon 0396A recorded on August 9, 1981 teaching from Acts 27:23 – God, Whose I Am, and Whom I Serve. Pastor Cyril A. Stevens emphasizes the profound commitment believers are called to make, echoing Paul’s declaration in Acts 27:23. He stresses that belonging to God signifies a complete surrender of one’s life,…
The journey of Paul as a prisoner to Rome has been fraught with fear and danger as the relentless storm has been tossing them to and fro. We now come to Luke's description of the shipwreck, where all passengers survive by God's grace. This passage reminds us of God's promises and encourages us to lean into trusting our God even when our lives feel dashed to pieces. Join us to hear Pastor Nathan bring God's Word from Acts 27:39-44.
Throughout the book of Acts, we witness the resurrection life of Jesus take root and grow, not in theory, but in bodies, cities, communities, and cultures. The gospel is not only something we believe—it's something we live. In suffering and in joy, in conflict and in hospitality, in worship and in witness, in movement and in mission, the early church becomes a living sign of God's new creation.Sermon by Pastor Scott Edinger

If you missed last Sunday, please check out Nick Carter's message on the first half of Acts 27. That section left us in despair at verse 20, “all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.” We continue the same narrative this Sunday as Paul is sailing for Rome in the midst of a horrific Mediterranean storm. The storm continues, but hope is recovered in the awareness of God's presence and promises. Join us as Tom Macy preaches from Acts 27:21-38.

Despite his warnings of potential danger, the ship's crew continues their voyage. A violent storm arises, driving the ship off course. The crew throws cargo overboard to lighten the load, but all hope of survival seems lost. Paul encourages everyone on board by sharing a message from an angel who assures him that no lives will be lost, even though the ship will be destroyed. He urges them to eat for strength and prepare for the impending shipwreck. Some sailors attempt to escape from the ship but are warned by Paul that they cannot be saved unless they stay on board. Ultimately, the ship crashes along the coast of Malta, but as promised, all 276 passengers survive. The shipwreck story is a powerful illustration of God's plan to save sinners. Like sinners, the men set out despite warnings of impending doom. Soon after departure, things spiral out of control, becoming desperate and hopeless. From this place of despair, God reveals hope for survival, but it requires obedience to His straightforward instructions. They are instructed to take courage, remain calm, be nourished, and allow God to guide them through to safety. Everyone obeys, and all are saved. This is the gospel message: to trust in God, turn from sin, follow His teachings, and rely on His power to deliver us! This also provides great teaching for local churches, who unite to live by faith and be saved together. Benevolent Father, thank You for extending Your mercy and grace to us, even though we do not deserve Your love. Thank You for guiding us away from the destruction of sin and into a place of peace and joy with Your people. Like the passengers on the ship, help us stay together, encouraging one another to obey Your commandments. Please continue to guide us to safety by Your grace. We pray for restored spirits for those among us who are discouraged and have lost their peace in the storms of life. Create opportunities for us to uplift, embrace, and serve them. Thought Questions: - The crew left “Fair Haven” against Paul's council and suffered. Why do so many people leave safety in God for restricted areas? - How does God teach you to find hope again in His care in such times? Why must you obey His instructions to be saved and at peace? - The shipwreck story has a collective element. The people faced it together and survived. How valuable is this principle in the church?
Paul was told by Jesus Himself that he would testify in Rome. But he is a prisoner aboard a ship that he's certain is sailing into disaster. As we begin this final section of our Acts series, we will see how Paul is totally surrendered because he knows who is ultimately in control of the voyage and his circumstance. Join us as Nick Carter will be teaching on Sunday and leading us through Acts 27:1-20. Special Guest: Nick Carter.
Join us as we discuss Paul's shipwreck on the way to Rome, and the courage and trust in God he shows to everyone else on the ship. Have you ever been shipwrecked? What was God trying to teach you?

Deuteronomy 29 tells of the LORD's renewal of His covenant in Moab with His people Israel. Verse 1 informs us that the words of this covenant are in addition to the covenant made in Mount Horeb, ie Mount Sinai. From verses 2-9 Moses is summoning all the people to stand before him at the edge of the Promised Land to hear some final words to strengthen and encourage Israel before their entry into the land. The nation is reminded of their Sovereign's blessings throughout the last 40 years. Notice in verses 4 they were told of hearing ears, this in contrast to what the nation later became – those whose ears were closed to the gospel message brought by the Messiah. Israel had been saved from powerful foes. In verses 10-15 Moses implores Israel to hearken to the words of the Almighty. The covenant that the LORD their God was making with them that day was of great import and had to be faithfully observed in order to continue to inherit the land promised to their fathers. Verses 16-28 they are warned of dangers which could overtake them and they might forsake the Living God. We notice that verse 18 speaks of a root of bitterness springing up suddenly and preventing the nation from receiving what their God had graciously prepared for them. The writer to the Hebrews comments on this in chapter 12 verses 12-16. The nation is warned that idolatry remains an ever present danger for them. Failure to keep the ways of their Almighty Creator will bring swift and decisive judgment. The chapter concludes in verse 29 with a reminder of the great blessings of God in revealing to His people the things hidden from those who fail to understand the truths of our Omnipotent God.
We are saved to serve! And the adventure begins the moment we throw everything overboard & fully follow Christ.
Acts 27 tells the tale of a fierce storm, a fragile ship, and frightened sailors. But in the middle of the storm stands the steady faith of a man who trusts in the one who is the Sovereign of the Seas. This chapter contains incredible detail about one specific event, and yet we discover truths here to help us navigate many different kinds of events in life: unexpected outcomes, stormy trials, and even shipwrecks we may endure. Whether you find yourself in the middle of a storm or resting between them, I want to remind you of three truths about God you can cling in every season.
