Program for 10/27/25 SAS Chapel: Acts 19:11-20, Reformation
God's power was not just available and active in the days of the early church, it is available and active today. We need to be available and obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit and as we are, we will be instruments of His power through us. By Dave Bartlett
Today we find ourselves in Ephesus again, where Paul's bold preaching shakes the city as God's power is displayed through miraculous works. Some embrace the gospel, others resist fiercely, and even imitators of faith are exposed. The name of Jesus spreads with unstoppable force — transforming hearts and turning the world upside down.
Acts 19:21-41 21 Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.” 22 And having sent into Macedonia two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while. 23 About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way. 24 For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen. 25 These he gathered together, with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth. 26 And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not gods. 27 And there is danger not only that this trade of ours may come into disrepute but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis may be counted as nothing, and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship.” 28 When they heard this they were enraged and were crying out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 29 So the city was filled with the confusion, and they rushed together into the theater, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians who were Paul's companions in travel. 30 But when Paul wished to go in among the crowd, the disciples would not let him. 31 And even some of the Asiarchs, who were friends of his, sent to him and were urging him not to venture into the theater. 32 Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had come together. 33 Some of the crowd prompted Alexander, whom the Jews had put forward. And Alexander, motioning with his hand, wanted to make a defense to the crowd. 34 But when they recognized that he was a Jew, for about two hours they all cried out with one voice, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 35 And when the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, who is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great Artemis, and of the sacred stone that fell from the sky? 36 Seeing then that these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and do nothing rash. 37 For you have brought these men here who are neither sacrilegious nor blasphemers of our goddess. 38 If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen with him have a complaint against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. 39 But if you seek anything further, it shall be settled in the regular assembly. 40 For we really are in danger of being charged with rioting today, since there is no cause that we can give to justify this commotion.” 41 And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly. Key Words: Resolve, Disturbance, Way, Wealth, Turn, Gods, Confusion, Riot Keystone Verse: And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not gods. “Not Today, Pastor Pushy” (Acts 19:1–7) Ever been told you're “not spiritual enough”? That you just need to feel it more, cry harder, or speak in tongues to prove you've got the Holy Spirit? Yeah… same. This week's message by Pastor Frank is about what it really means to be baptized in the name of Jesus— and how the Holy Spirit isn't something you earn by emotional gymnastics.

Boldy and Without Hindrance
In Acts 19 the Apostle Paul makes a return trip to Ephesus and encounters twelve disciples where he asks them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed. I believe if the Apostle Paul were here today he would ask that same question of some Christians today. There was something lacking in the disciples that led to that question being asked. Oftentimes there are Christians who don't have an understanding of the Holy Spirit and His role in the life of the believer. While the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not necessary for salvation, it is needed to be an effective witness in the world today.
Do you ever feel like something is missing? Maybe you know Jesus, and you even know His love for you, but have you ever invited the Holy Spirit from Jesus to fill you? The people in our passage today had this experience. They were disciples. They seemed to be all in. However, they had never received the Spirit! Join us today as we unpack what this means for them and for us.
Acts 19:8-20 8 And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. 9 But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. 10 This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. 11 And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. 13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” 14 Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this.15 But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” 16 And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered allof them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17 And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled. 18 Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. 19 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.20 So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily. Key Words: Extraordinary, Miracles, Evil Spirit, Fear, Confessing, Prevail Keystone Verse: Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you? (Acts 19:15) Download Bulletin

The city of Ephesus was one of the crown jewels of the Roman Empire; rich, religious, and restless. It was home to the temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and a center for magic, trade, and spiritual darkness. When Paul entered this city, he didn't come with political influence or wealth, but with the power of the Gospel. Because of the Gospel the entire spiritual landscape of Ephesus began to shift. In Acts 19, we see what happens when the reign of Christ collides with the idols of culture. It's a story of revival, repentance, and resistance. This pattern that still repeats today whenever the gospel truly takes root in the hearts of a community.
The book of Acts, also called the Acts of the Apostles, spotlights the fulfillment of the Great Commission. This powerful book was written by the Apostle Luke who also wrote the Gospel of Luke. Join Jerry as he walks through this book and recounts the spread of Christianity from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria and the surrounding world. You will be encouraged by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of many who were transformed through hearing the gospel and witnessing of miracles. God can use you to change the environment around you. It might just be your family, but it could also be your entire city or state! Are you ready to move when God calls you? God's Spirit in you is stronger than the power of anything that stands against you. When God sees you commit to Him, He'll move through you. As you'll get to see in today's message with Pastor Mark, God can use anyone to change the hearts of the people of an area. He just needs you to be sold out on serving Him and to be faithful to go when He calls you. You'll never have to do it alone, but God won't use you if you're not willing to go when the time comes.

SENT - Week 34 - Acts 19:23-41 - Matt Skrabec by FBC Benicia
God is always in control. Sin will always be in the world, just like it always has been. Sometimes it might be hard to resist the temptation of sin. But in God, there's strength to get through those times. In God, you have a hope for eternity. He holds the world in His hands and can bring you through all that you face. Today, Pastor Mark will remind you to trust in God through the newest trends in culture. When the world tries to take your focus off of God, remember that He is in control. You have to trust Him that He'll get you through anything and put your life in His hands. He can do great things through someone who's surrendered to Him.
Following God isn't guaranteed to be easy. Oftentimes, it's quite the opposite. There's a cost to following God, and that's doing what He wants for your life instead of following your earthly pleasures. As Pastor Mark will show you in today's message, it's important to keep your commitment to God to enjoy the life He has for you. When temptations become strong and when it's hard to follow God's will, you can find rest in God. He'll provide all you need to face what you're up against. Just turn your face back to Him and ask, and keep away from sin. When you let God have His way, He can do amazing things you never could imagine through your life.
Once you give your life to Christ, it should look different. People should notice something different about you. The faith you have is meant to be shared with as many people as you can reach. Everywhere you go is an opportunity to reach more people for Christ. Is He alive in your heart and reaching people through you? The way you live should attract people to the same hope you have. How you live your life is a ministry itself! Today, Pastor Mark will encourage you to be bold in declaring your faith. Be bold in talking to others about what's different about you. You never know who it might touch or lead to Christ.
The Word of God—written, preached, taught, seen, tasted—is sufficient for all matters of faith and practice.
