Zack encourages Alison to worry less about what her friends are saying about her recent behavior -- and her drinking, in particular -- and think more about what shereally wants. Like a new car! How's she going to pay for the convertible she ends up with? She'll figure it out! Should she go with him to Santa Barbara when she has an early meeting the next day and the last time she did that she slept through her obligation? She sure shouldn't! Does she do it anyway? You bet! Does she end up in exactly the same predicament? Oh boy, does she ever. Since she's starting to get so sloppy that she's letting down her colleagues, she pretty much forces them to call her on it, but she is not ready to hear their fearless feedback at all. A shadowy underworld figure shows up at Shooters and starts threatening Jake with physical harm if he doesn't start paying into his protection racket. Jake refuses, but Sydney -- who knows these people don't screw around from her time with Lauren -- is more receptive to direct appeals with regard to ways she could "pay" Jake's protection money in trade. You know how. Oof. As Kimberly keeps getting more bad news about the difficulties she's going to have in starting a family, she keeps running into Jo at the doctor's office, and gets the story of Jo's legal setback. If she can't help herself, maybe she can help Jo? Matt's parents meet and are quite taken with Jeffrey -- so much that when Matt asks if he may bring him to Thanksgiving, they agree! There's just one problem: if they attend, Matt and Jeffrey may only represent themselves as good friends. Bruce is back on his feet, and back at the office against medical advice, but the news of someone buying up large blocks of troubled D&D stock are not doing his health any favors. Kimberly is a mother of two; she attributes her motherhood journey as the spark to her work in the birth and breastfeeding space, and what continues to be her motivation. Being a journalist, while pregnant, she began asking questions. In feeling like the answers weren't adequate, she started looking into how the context of our lives as BIPOC could be clues into the infant and maternal disparities in our community. In 2006 she wrote the Mocha Manual. This book allowed BIPOC individuals to see themselves in the modern maternity conversation. While also bringing to the forefront the realities and disparities of pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding for BIPOC individuals. Kimberly continued to peel back the layers, writing five books total, The Big Letdown being her most recent, a look into the systems, society, pediatricians, and doctors hindering the infant feeding journeys of families. And through that exploration, affirming to nursing parents that they are doing their best in a structure not created to see them succeed. In her work, Kimberly has had a front-row seat into the experience of many birthing parents and knows sharing our stories holds weight. Reflecting on her birth, she remembered when a hospital was highly recommended to her as an option for care. Yet she walked away from that hospital traumatized. There hasn't been a space for birthing people to have the opportunity to hold the care system accountable. And so Irth was born. The Irth app is a “Yelp-like” platform where individuals can leave reviews on care providers and hospitals to inform each other of where they are receiving good care and where they aren't.If you are a birthing parent or even a doula/support person, you can share your experience. As Kimberly expressed, "We may not be able to stop all the harm, but we have to be prepared to help heal."Irth App | "Yelp-like" review & rating app for hospitals & physicians made by and for Black women & birthing people of colorMocha Manual | pregnancy guide by Kimberly Seals AllersThe Big Letdown | how medicine, big business, and feminism undermine breastfeeding by Kimberly Seals Allers

Jessica Kate's new romantic comedy A Girl's Guide to the Outback launched on Jan 28 and fellow rom com author Bethany Turner joined her for a special Facebook Live launch party to answer reader questions and talk about the behind the scenes details and inspiration behind the book! A Girl's Guide to the Outback is available now at all good bookstores. How far will a girl go to win back a guy she can't stand? This funny, sweet, and romantic story proves that opposites do attract-and that God has a sense of humor. Samuel Payton is a passionate youth pastor in Virginia, but below the surface, he's still recovering from the blow of a failed business and insecurities he can't shake. His coworker, start-up expert Kimberly Foster, is brilliant, fearless, and capable, but years of personal rejection have left her defensive and longing for a family. Two people have never been more at odds-or more attracted to one another. And every day at work, the sparks sure do fly. When Kimberly's ambitious plans for Sam's ministry butt up against his risk-averse nature, Sam decides that obligations to family trump his work for the church. He quits the ministry and heads home to Australia to help his sister, Jules, save her struggling farm. As Kimberly's grand plans flounder, she is forced to face the truth: that no one can replace Sam. Together they strike up a deal: If Kimberly comes to work on Jules's dairy farm and lends her business brains to their endeavor, then maybe-just maybe-Sam will reconsider his future with the church. As Kimberly tries her hand at Australian farm life, she learns more about herself than she could've ever expected. Meanwhile Sam is forced to re-evaluate this spunky woman he thought he already knew. As foes slowly morph into friends, they wonder if they might be something even more. But when disaster looms, will Sam find it within himself to take a risk that could lead to love? And will Kimberly trust God with her future?
